  • What is up artists and movers!
    Going to college and being a college dance major has been a a huge part of my journey. I never went to a performing arts school and it was really my first time being around dance in a way that allowed me to study the art form in depth. I am super grateful for that experience but I do know that going to college for dance isn't for everybody. Right now I know some of you may be trying to decide if a college dance major is right for you. So, I decided to put this video together to give you my thoughts on college dance majors and tell you everything I think current and future dance majors should know. I hope this helps someone who needs it. See you in my next video really soon.

    Hey there! My name is Gaylyn Lareese, and I am dancer living in Los Angeles. For as long as I can remember, dance has been a part of my life and has truly shaped my personality, my opinions and my life goals. I believe dancers are more than pretty performers on a stage or in a video. True dancers know that dance is how we learn and move through life. It’s the way we’ve chosen to grow to be the people we are meant to be. This is why I call us artists and movers! On my channel I make content for every aspect of dance life including dance tips, dance discussions, and dance entrepreneurship. Very useful! I just finished a diploma in Graphic design but am contemplating on whether I would want to continue with studying in dance (as I have been dancing since 2017) this video is very insightful and helpful for me to be realistic about it. Subscribed, and loving the dance content!

    I’m a sophomore at psu, I’m studying human development and family studies. But ever since last semester I’ve been really contemplating transferring and studying dance. I don’t think I ever realized how much I loved dance until I went to college. Only thing is my parents really want me to stick out my major

    Hi, Gaylyn!
    Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us...
    I took dance classes when I was a kid, but unfortunately life got on the way, and I had to stop dancing in order to be self-reliant.
    I’m 30 now, but I’ve always dreamed of getting a BFA in Dance. I’d be literally starting from scratch, and it’d take me a while to get back on track since my body is not as responsive as it once was.
    Even though I’m a guy, I’ve always dreamed of going en pointe, and my desire has become stronger and stronger. I binge watch The Pointe Shop on RUclips... and hopefully one day I’ll be fitted for my own pointe shoes.
    Do you think it’s too late to start now? No need to sugar coat.
    Wish you a lot of success. :)

    First I want to thank you so much for your insights. I am a parent of a dancer who is looking for college with a dance program and struggling to decide if it’s worth it or not to major in dance and worried if she is she going to make a living. Especially now (check college prices this year ⬆️⬆️⬆️) . As parents we also struggle between encouraging her to do what she loves the most and how is she going to be able to live from her passion. I always knew that business and marketing should be part of college in that field too but it is so good to hear it from you directly ➡️ young dancers). I am going to look in your videos if there is something on what dance program to choose when you don’t have 40-60k/yr to go to conservatories and private schools (and probably won’t qualify for financial aids).
    If someone like you could sort it out for us with college names / programs and tuitions, we, parents, would be eternally grateful 🙏😃

      I actually was planning on doing a video on how to pick the right college dance program for you. I’m not as familiar with specific programs now that I’m far out of college but I can give my general insight on how I picked mine and maybe things that I would’ve done differently. I’m glad this video was helpful. I’ll get on that!

    Hello Gaylyn
    i am a senior in high school and struggling what to do. i do not want to be a dance major (thinking of cybersecurity) but want to take dance in college. what college would you recommend for a minor in dance or just taking dance as an extracurricular? thank you :)

    • @GaylynLareese
      @GaylynLareese  Год назад

      It depends on which classes your college offers. When you go you can ask them for a list of dance classes that are offered and pick from there. I would just stay away from a ballet class if you are only looking to commit a little bit of time.

      It actually wasn’t that hard at all. Double majoring is pretty difficult but fitting a minor in can be done pretty easily as long as you stay on top of your course load selections each semester 😉
