Good morning from Huffman Texas! I am still cleaning up after the Hurricane. I lost my whole garden, I had six trees fall in my yard two huge trees on my whole garden. It has been a devastating blow for me and my family. I'm a single mom and we lost all our freezer and fridge. My canning saved us.

I am so sorry to hear that! I know how you feel, when hurricane Irma came through several years ago, we lost so many trees, structures, and it was a mess! Thankfully by the grace of God all the animals were ok and we were ok. I'm thankful y'all are ok, I know this is going to be tough but you will make it through. I will pray for y'all! ❤

If you are starting to get a good bit of rain, you want to get as many of the good red tomatoes as possible and any that may have started blushing. After so much heat and dry weather, the ones that are ripe may split if you get a good rain storm now. The humidity I believe, contributes to the blight issues.

Fyi: We started putting up tomatoes plain. Then open a jar and add your herbs/seasoning for what your making. That way you never run out of a pedicure product. The best thing is a regular jar will fit on your blinder. Just pour some juice out if you don't need it all.

This is THE best canned salsa recipe I've tried. I promise you won't be disappointed. ANNIES SALSA
8 cups tomatoes, peeled, chopped and drained
    2 1/2 cups chopped onion
1 1/2 cups chopped green pepper
3 - 5 chopped jalapenos or to taste
    6 cloves minced garlic
    2 tsp cumin
    2 tsp pepper
    1/8 cup canning salt
    1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
    1/3 cup sugar
    1 cup vinegar
    16 oz. tomato sauce
    16 oz tomato paste
Mix all ingredients, bring to a boil, boil 10 minutes. Pour into hot jars, Process 15 minutes for pints and 20 minutes for quarts in a hot water bath.
You may increase the amount of hot peppers if you want more heat, but reduce the green pepper or onion by the same amount to retain the acidity of the recipe and keep it safe to can. You don't have to use jalapenos, you can use any hot pepper you have on hand. I like habaneros but they are VERY hot. Be careful.
The tomato sauce and paste are for consistency only, I like a salsa so thick it sits on my chip, you can leave it out but it is "runnier" without it.

I'm in north NJ. Been picking tomatoes since beginning of July. Our plants are massive and we have not pruned any of the tomatoes. The weather has been so hot and little rain so a daily chore of watering everyday. We only grow heirloom varieties and seed save. Our worst tomato this year is the San Marzano. We planted them in barrels and they did get some blossom end rot and I'm thinking it's just that the soil dried out quicker. My favorite roma tomato is a Striped Roma, super meaty and twice the size of the san marzano. This year we are growing a pink heirloom beefsteak. I mix all our tomatoes and make ketchup or soup with them. Better than store bought ketchup. We never use any store fertilizer. Our homemade compost is high in nitrogen with all the chicken and duck poo added to it. Comfrey tea is our fertilizer if we need it. I make what we call a cooked salsa....It has a variety of tomatoes with skin and seeds, habanero peppers, peaches or pineapple chunks, green peppers, onions, garlic lots of oregano, salt, brown sugar and apple cider vinegar. Cook it down til all the veggies are soft but still chunky. Omg it's so good. Been making it for well over 20 years and it cans up beautifully. (Rebel canning I guess but we love it)

Thank you for showing your disappointments in the garden. It definitely encourages me not to give up when you've had so much experience with tomatoes. Here in Texas I'm really struggling to do well with tomatoes, but I love them so much that I keep trying. Same with cucumbers I haven't had a success since about 2013. However I have loofah coming out of my ears! 🙏🙏🙏

I'm in Alabama and had tons of tomatoes and cucumbers in June and early July but they're dying out now. Too hot to make blooms and they're just dying back. You need to start as early as possible because after it hits 90 you pretty much don't get any more blooms. Next year I'm trying a shade cloth and a fan to see if I can extend it a little farther.

After blight I put the garden beds away for winter with a good amount of lime. It thus far has been a no show this year. Learned that trick from a Amish canning gardening book. We only put in about a dozen tomatoes plants, but found many volunteers from last year.. Which turned out to be heartier and more loaded with fruit. I usually have abundance in green beans but, not this year...burnt leaves from to many 80 degree days. We will be relying on last years pantry abundance. Last year abundancein winter squash this year less than 20 of three varieties. Very different year.

Crazy weather down here in Lincoln County too and our garden is just looking awful. Our corn is already done. We’ve had a great crop of green beans and cucumbers, but our shelling beans are already done. Our tomatoes had nasty blossom end rot but they’ve improved as we’ve worked on them, but they’re just about died off overall. All our squash got killed off by vine borers. Our garlic and onion did well. Pretty mixed overall we’ll call it and I’m hoping the fall crops will do better.

We're holding a potato experiment this year as well. We had a pile of hay that we were using to mulch our garden. The extra hay that we didn't use, we tossed some seed potatoes into the pile and have been adding additional hay as needed. So far they look really good. The only problem we're having is keeping the chickens out of it. Thanks for sharing.

Some people don't like failure in a garden, but the way I look at it's part of it & always a learning experience which I love. We've been gardening 10yrs & this is the first year we've ever had birds get in our corn & we plant corn every year, but we've also had abundance in other areas so the way I look at it be thankful for what God has blessed you with for that year because food is food & it's all a blessing. Also thanks for the salsa recipe I literally was prepping tomatoes for salsa & couldn't find my recipe so thank you ☺️

Hello from a grandmother in sw Virginia. Don't know if yall know this so thought I would share. For blossom endrot about six weeks before my tomato's start to put out I take seven eggshells and feel a quart jar with white vinegar and put the eggshells in it. The first sign of trouble put about five or six table spoons in a gallon of water and spray your tomato's top to bottom and around the ground. It's always worked for me stops blossom endrott in it's tracks. I love yalls video's gives this old lady hope for our future. Be blessed

Hey guys, love watching your channel, This year, for the first time, I put an egg in each of my tomato holes, beat it up and planted my tomato plant and then watered well. Then as they started, I kept the lower limbs cut off so nothing is touching the ground, awesome tomato harvest for me this year, I live in NW Ga. Hugs

I live a few miles south of Dothan Alabama and I'm pretty sure they use Slocomb tomatoes for their salsa. Slocomb Alabama has a whole festival around their tomatoes, it's the best tomatoes you can buy for fresh eating and canning, have no idea what cultivar they grow as they keep it secret. Saving seeds from their tomatoes won't give you the same tomato, people have tried I'm pretty sure.

The wife and I named our daughter Megan in 1979, I worked in a factory 33 years, just found your channel. We are trapped in the city because we were lied to by the media. I was raised on a 10 acre lot in the country. Learned to drive at 12 years old on a little Farmall BN . My dad worked in a Hobart factory here in Troy Ohio. Dad followed the teaching of organic gardener Jerome Irving Rodale, but what he didn't know was that sugar fed cancer. he died at the age of 83 in town after my mother succumbed to Alzheimer's disease. All we need is a government that will tell us the truth, and not cover for corporations! Eat meat and thrive, a few vegetables, (no) processed garbage the media is paid to push on even our children. I have corrected my health by being educated, rather than propagandized. It is criminal what the media has been complicit in our country's decline in health. Donald J. Trump 2024!

I've got a patch of tomatoes that are also looking sad. Thank you for sharing your garden. Helped me feel not so bad about my tomatoes. If such experienced farmers can have blight problems then I don't feel so bad about mine. Thanks for sharing your salsa recipe.😊

I think I know a guy who's pretty darn good at fixing things.. I bet he can figure something out. I always put a good pile of leaves in the bottom of the trench I plant taters in. Helps keep moisture in the ground, gives them a bit of nutrition and gives them soft soil.

I do have a garden, it’s just me and my husband. So far I’ve put up kosher, dill, bread and butter pickles using my cucumbers. Zucchini pineapple and zucchini pickles. Tomatoes are coming in so canning tomatoes. Also canned green beans. I’m freezing okra, summer squash and zucchini. The heat and dry weather pretty much got my butter peas and speckled butter beans, we eaten fresh but not enough extra for freezing. Fingers crossed for my sweet potatoes in early fall. I also did pickles banana pepper rings and the Tabasco peppers are coming right along for pepper sauce vinegar. I think I’ll have enough green tomatoes to make a batch of chow chow. Fond memories of making it with my grandma.
Have enjoyed eating fresh from the garden, too.

You should research the Amish paste or the Ox heart instead of Roma or San marsano
They get large and can well and make good salsa or juice
