Based on the fact it's built by the same team as Conan Exiles, and most of the same engine, i bet it will play very similarly, and honestly Conan Exiles had amazing gameplay in my opinion. One of the most solid survival games out, glad to see this trailer also showcasing the same building system and the same climbing system. Ngl I'm kinda excited. Granted conan is all melee combat and some bows etc, it'll be interesting to see how they do with the vehicles and guns.

@@TV-cv1eb can't use lasguns due to the holtzmann effect either from what I remember. it would primarily be ballistic weapons although baron harkonnen gave rabban permission to use lasguns against the fremen.
@@acarroll6842 fremen used maula pistols for engaging ranged targets up to 50 metres and the harkonnens and sardaukar only used shields when in stable areas, so out in the desert regular firearms would be fairgame. lasguns attract worms unfortunately.
The devs said there is plenty of hand of hand combat but due to it being in arrakis using shields would attract sand worms so using Guns/Ranged weapons is easier since no shields but if there are shields you are forced to use hand to hand (tho we’ll all only use hand to hand anyways)

So, what worries me is how the Devs had said they’re avoiding the religious overtones of the Dune universe. Religious overtones are sort of key to the Dune Lore and story so… yeah I am deeply concerned for how this game is going to portray the Universe faithful to the novels.

Knowing Funcoms past, this is very likely. The current pre-alphain game footage the devs showed off wasn't super pretty looking, animations looked a little jank, building was basic etc. So they have a bit to go imo
Probably, but even Conan Exiles launched with enough content to be fully playable and enjoyable with good progression and mechanics. These devs are amazing, and it looks like in this video it is essentially re-skinned Conan Exiles, climbing mechanics are the same, building is the similar but improved.
They have literally shown a 85% of this in a closed testing people were invited to. Clown take from someone that didn't do their research.

The devs behind this game have skeptical pasts in terms of gameplay quality so I am not gonna hold my breathe on it. It's probably not gonna be as good as the movie's hype has made it out to be.

It's going to get improved, thats not something they need to have down pat at this stage in development and is not uncommon. @suddenimpulse030 I agree with you 100%. WE LOVE THE DEVS, AND WE LOVE YOU. However, this is not a good trailer. It's as simple as that. The consumers' opinion / first impression matters a lot, even if there is nothing but vitriol often surrounding the discussion.
@@walther007 Even if that was to make it's way into the final product, that's not necessarily a bad thing. Is it preferable to be perfect? Of course. Is it even possible to be perfect? I doubt it.
The way the climbing works is not like Assassin's Creed or anything like that where there are predetermined grapple points. It's very generous with where you can climb, and that makes perfect contact animation next to impossible, if not actually impossible. Would you rather they clip through the wall instead?

Within the first 30mins of the first Dune film I thought the setting would make for an insane open world RPG. This version has lots of potential but there are definitely some red flags. I wish CD Projekt Red hopped on the IP, that would be insane.
I was literally just thinking this as I read your comment. I’m a huge fan of CD Projekt Red, and their work on the Witcher games and Cyberpunk 2077 convinces me they could take a universe like Dune’s and make an absolutely epic game…
They have enough on their plate at the moment but it would have been awesome if they had picked this up. Will definitely give the current devs the benefit of the doubt though and hope they can deliver a great game!

@user-nl2bi2kx9k there are certain story parts in the game that are somewhat linear, but the majority of the game comes down to playing how you want, doing what you want, and making your own decisions which affect many elements of future quest lines/dialogue/experiences.
i still don't think this can really work considering one of the fundamental things about dune is that arrakis is mostly just barren desert
it's gonna be a lot of wandering from landmark to landmark with nothing in between in the early game and even if they decide to populate it with more stuff it would kinda defeat the point

Massive hint at worm riding there at the end, those hooks are used to open up the armoured plates of the sand worm, preventing it from submerging as it can't get sand under them, allowing a person to "ride" them.

Funcom handled sandstorms REALLY WELL in conan exiles so im excited to see how their tech for that has evolved since then

@@keanuwick8485 thats not the reason, its simly that if you want to play an open world story game mmos are never as detailed and wellvput together as single player games.
It will have solo, same as Conan Exiles, with your own settings and such.
@@keanuwick8485 I've got plenty of friends. The issue is that MMO's don't allow me to only put 20 minutes a night (in between work and parenting) into the game without seeing all that progress wiped out by other players.
And as @sultankebab1587 has said, MMO's are never as detailed and well put together storywise as a singleplayer RPG.

I'm sad they didn't actually show any gameplay in their gameplay trailer. I'm looking forwards to the game but come on, they just teased us with a bunch of scripted events for the whole trailer and there was literally 0 shots of gameplay including any UI

I much prefer the single player elements of survival games like this, or at least coop so the wife and I can have some fun. I hate being forced into dealing with other humans, particularly in a PvP toxic setting... lemme just chill out and enjoy my gigantic sand palace that took 2 weeks to build! I hope at least there are destiny style PvE alternatives to gear/scenarios introduced...
Another Cursed Runed Game, already lost interest. Specially when the devs already made it clear they have no interest of keeping the game faithful to the lore or story, so big pass again.

I remember first hearing about this game and being cautiously optimistic. This has me really excited about it now.
I was hoping for an RTS Dune. The old Dune 2000 was really well made, and I think it's about time we got to get a nice RTS experience again.

Why is this game one of my most anticipated games of the year?
Hopefully they keep all the shield stuff faithful to the universe in attracting worms and turning into a nuke if it ever encounters a lasgun. That would be devastatingly epic and hilarious haha but idk how you’d work that into gameplay and also trolls. Still would be a really tense and have a really unique feel and strategy that would make the game stand out like the film and book

Last game the publisher made in 2022 had overwhelmingly positive reviews on steam wich is a good sign
It's like we've spent decades trying to make Dune into games and shows and after the Westwood games and the first Dune movie, finally we have several things that look promising.
This just seems too unreal/too amazing for this game not to dissapoint... if they can deliver just a smidge of what is shown, my god ! Cannot wait for this

Perhaps, more dark Cave exploration not sure what's in it but maybe a Smart A.I system further expanding on Trade networks. Even being able to deploy Platoons to certain Areas or Instructors that train your Troops but a mix of RuneScape/Civilization elements discovering New Settlers offering different training/formation potentials. Sounds fun but I'm sure probly alot to think about.

Conan exiles is my favorite survival game of all time. Definitely excited for this one
If this is truly Conan Exiles with upgrades and Dune skins, we are still in for a treat.
This is made for movies. Or possibly a mini series. Cant imagine playing this would be super fun . who knows.

Funcom can pull this off, but most likely not to the level they are presenting. The building mevhanic is something theyve dealt with for years along with survival mechanics from conan exiles. Unfortunately the biggest issue in conan was net code and the game lagged severely when there were large player made structures around to the point servers had literal caps on how many blocks you could put down.
If they can pull this off, I’d say it has the potential to be the star game of this console generation.
Skepticism is so high. Gamers are finally learning.
I hope they would be able to crack the gameplay because the story and characters are proven already. And I love Dune book and movies. Gameplay is where I am bit skeptical. I would love if it is more like sandbox with good physics and game mechanics.
I'll make a prediction right now. The game will have major balance issues and especially ornithopters will be absurdly powerful to a point where a few, or even a single, clan will rule on each server/ the server.
A few years ago (norwegian developer) Funcom exects were indicted and convicted on charges of insider trade and market manipulation, and they appear to be doing better post this.
It looks cool but im gonna wait to see. One of the biggest things, is if they really cared they would get the ornithopter wings right but theyve only done that lazy rough animation which doesnt look right in the slightest
That’s a very good observation! My guess is that they bought a model, and did the max low effort animation on it because obviously the content being pushed - a lot of stuff looks like just a Frankenstein out of different presets. Like building, faces, character models etc.

The game will be good. I hope flying is not something simple, like everyone on the team can have their own "ornithopter", because otherwise the game becomes too easy, or also that it is a skill tree to prioritize a pilot in the team ... where the rest enter as crew. (flying in these games makes life easy, or it becomes banal if the resource to fly is not "expensive").

I’ll wait for the release, I also think it should have been a single player game. Have nothing against coop but pvp is another thing, especially if that’s the only endgame option. Hand to hand is a must the Bene Gesserit weirding way is a deal maker for me & probably many others. Sand worms eating spice collection rigs never gets old though.
So basically it's Conan Exiles with a Dune reskin that has an in depth survival system like DayZ.
I never played Conan Exiles but have seen gameplay so honestly this game not being a campaign based game and more like a MMORPG is fine with me. So far the game is looking beautiful

I still don't understand which of the worms they are going to use, whether the one from the first movie or the one from the new ones, the trailers show the new one but the in-game demo that they showed recently shows the old worm
