@theloudhalo, I lived in England for three wonderful years during the 80's and still miss it deeply. I mainly return to London from time to time and although I come from a different culture and distant country, I've ALWAYS enjoyed my visits. I've lately discovered the beauties of the English countryside but, more than anything else; the best thing about England is the PEOPLE! Best wishes from São Paulo, Brazil.
@punkstoper I'm American and have absolutely no British bloodline. Furthermore, although we're still under control of the Crown at the moment... I have a feeling that isn't going to be the case much longer. Reply to a one year old comment with lots of good spirit from America. It will truly be free for the first time in history. :)
Aside from contractors, private companies and the like, countries actually fund war through going into debt. In the long run there is no profit in war, this is not when one pillages and pilfers the riches. War efforts are beasts upon any countrys' economy. Matter a fact, one of americas first great deficits was borrowing to fight the revolution. The climate for war today is as grim as ever, but i seriously doubt but a very few americans would think to turn their backs on Britian.
OK, the Drum Major made a mistake. He is also one of the top (elite) in the world. How many thousand times has he done that without making a mistake. These guys are Army first and everything else second. You have NO idea what happened to him just prior to almost dropping the mace. He would have preformed under almost any circumstance. Hell, I say God Bless him for having the fortitude to serve his country. Speaking of which, God Bless all the troops fighting to keep us.
@jimyngudallas, actually, even though the mongols had most of China, Britain had India, most of America at one point, Canada, parts of Africa and many other places. in terms of square miles, The mongol empire was indeed bigger, but in terms of cultural spread, population, length of time it existed and influence, the British empire wins. Also, most of the mongol empire was unpopulated steppe areas.
America was going to join the war, then they seen how much money they were making. It was apart of America's job as an ally. Apart from WW2 America went into isolation.
I have to wonder, what kind of a reprimand he'd get for screw up like that. I once was reading about one of the sentries at the Arlington Tombs of the unknown soldiers, he dropped his rifle during the inspection for the change. He walked off after completing the ceremony & never came back. He was reassigned presumably. They won't tolerate if the most trifling error. Very different occasion though.
@VictorLepanto He won't get any punishment what so ever. Partly due to his position as drum major and subsequently his rank. Plus the fact that this was a minor hiccup than a, "mess up," that this video takes upwards of 2 minutes to show.
No, that wouldn't happen because you're taught during drill practive to simply carry on if you happen to drop something, or something falls off from your attire - for example your beret of peak cap. I guarantee if he had actually dropped it, he would've simply carried on marching without it, despite looking slightly knobbish.
Are you sure a regiment as we known now means absolutely the same thing as a regiment in the 1500s? In any case there are "regiments" in the Commonwealth nowadays that are essentially company strength anyway. How exactly do you define "regiment"?
@jimyngudallas Ok, can you tell me what you are looking at. Is it a book or something, because i'm looking at a website (not wikipedia), but it still might be wrong.
@jimyngudallas 2 things. 1. Learn to comment. You disagreed with me then agreed with me. Which is it? 2. Britain wasn't bigger in size, thats what i'm saying. The mongol empire was somewhere in the region of 35 million square miles and britain was somewhere around 13 million. However, most of the points I said in my previous comment are absolubtly true still. Also, who would win in a battle if it was the mongols vs the British Empire? Do you think mongols would win vs cannons and muskets?
aw come on guys im brit we r both amzin nations and in reality britain an america are best mates ive got no probs with americans we have alot of faults so what?!
Hold on, you do realise that everything you said there is true of the US too, aren't you? If you do then I'm laughing because I like the irony. Nothing like a patriot, is there? I think you will find, though, that most of the atrocities you mention were not perpetrated by people in the name of their country. In fact it was in the name of their religion. I think that gives us Brits an advantage in that in terms of proportion of population, there are not many religious people in the UK.
I LOVE THIS VIDEO and the way it started makes me miss London so much. And those adorable guards.

Not Quite, the oldest is the household cavalry, though the Grenadiers are the Oldest in Infantry Unit.

@babbadudl
Hi,
This is a German march. It's called, " Under The Double Eagle"
good call, nothing like an angy scot
The Honourable Artillery Company was raised in 1537.
@theloudhalo, many thanks for your note. Wish I knew her name and the name of the song. Best wishes for the New Year.
@goggloski "that was 200 freakin years ago any resemblance to Britain has gone"
You can say that again ...

The only mess up I saw here, was the yank's comment on page 2, where he puts his foot into his mooth, swallows it, then puts his other foot in.
there was no reason for us to join the wars until we got attacked, in both world wars.
@jimyngudallas Your looking at square kilometres for Britain there. 13 million square miles or 33,670,000 square kilometres.
America was going to join the war, then they seen how much money they were making. It was apart of America's job as an ally. Apart from WW2 America went into isolation.

Who's the Brazilian singer at the end of this footage? Does anyone know her name or the name of the song? It's just awesome... Thanks.
