Larry we (the kids that read your comics) always gave a shit about you and still respect what you gave us to this day. I for one enjoyed the every issue I could buy as a kid. The realism and depth of the characters you created are why many of us (kids) became who we are today.
Snake Eyes is my second favorite comic book character after Batman (which I believe Larry also wrote for a while) and I love the Silent Issue and the origin story.
Thank you Larry for years of my childhood spent in joy. Thanks for never writing down and always keeping things based in real life and with real people.
I met Larry back in 2017. For me that was something I never thought would ever happen because I am in Kuwait. There was an event and the U.S embassy decided to invite him for it. He made me a Snake Eyes sketch and signed a few comics and GIJOE figures. More importantly he spoke of how he made the famous GIJOE Silent Issue. I was disappointed that not more people showed up but I blame the event organizers for that.
I've absolutely loved the interview videos. Just because the campaign is over, I hope that doesnt mean an end of these. I really enjoyed hearing him talk about it all. I'd especially love to see his reaction to how successful the campaign went and all the people that went in. We love you Larry!
Larry legend Hama!. A lot of Spirit and a little Rock `n` Roll, no Storm will ever Shadow you. Keep AirBorne like a Falcon my brother!. Yo Freaking Joe!
I never read a Joe comic, but I LOVED the show. It was a major part of my childhood. The show went off, so I didn’t know the toy line continued after ‘87 until Dragonfire came out.
What a legend! I might have to argue one point he made: I may be in my forties now, but as I look at my shelf of nearly 80 figures from the GI Joe Classified line, I'm not sure I ever really "grew up"!
The Battle of Cobra Island is epic -my favorite single issue is Shakedown - Thanks Larry for decades of great memories starting when I was a kid in the 80s
The first and only Kickstarter I've ever funded and can't wait to get my hands on the physical copies. I do hope they do another Kickstarter for all the non-Marvel Joe stuff Larry has done since, like Devil's Due GI Joe Declassified and the IDW run that picked up after the Marvel books. Also, can we start a Kickstarter already for a complete Mike Grill The Warlord Omnibus already?
Some of this is really surprising. I never knew he had difficulties in the business. I may be misremembering, but I am sure he wrote Wolverine for a while either while doing GI Joe, or shortly after. And they wouldn't give Wolverine to "a nobody in the business."
I hadn’t bought an individual issue of a comic in years until the Skybound series got me heading to the comic shop every month. That and the new Conan series from Titan. Interestingly, the first comic issues I ever bought when I was a kid were both Conan and GI Joe. But it was GI Joe that made me a comic collector.
Remember getting issue #21 and reading it… well looking at it and thinking that it was something special. One of my favorite comic books ever. So happy I bought it when it came out AND it’s got to be one of the best comics of all time.
I know exactly how it feels to write and create, develop and make. Put my love and effort into things that call to me, that visions appear. For all reasons ubknown to me, but I still feel strongly compelled to create. And just like ypu said - nobody seems to care. Like i manange to share my content with the least most of all respectdul, and the last to care. Who or where I go to show and share with is a mystery for me. At least you have had a business connection, and accomplished. The whole G.I. Joe cartoon era affected me so great as a child. The plots we very interesting even ñow as an adult when I can understand what could be possible. Modern cartoons now seem to lack that same power of attraction. At least for me.they do. Thank you for sharing.
Can we PLEASE get a collected edition (trade paperback) of the final few IDW Real American Hero issues? I’d only been collecting the series in trade and had to skip over to the Image issues without reading that story... I’m sure I’m not the only one.
You're in luck, the ENTIRE Marvel run is coming out in compendium volumes. First as hardcovers (kick starter is active right now) and then later in paperback
@@xtort1220That’s great, but I already have IDW’s collected Marvel run. I’m talking about Larry Hama’s IDW Real American Hero continuation… 24 volumes were released in trade. We the fans were still waiting on the 25th volume when IDW lost the license to Image. And we’re still waiting on those final few issues - that bridge the gap between IDW and Image - to be collected.
I can't believe people hated that comic. I was G.I.Joe from the 70s and I love that comic. It was so much better then the animated show. Thank you for revitalizing my favorite toy.
The Cobra Island war, the Springfield war and the Cobra Civil war were all classics but I can believe Larry when he says he was never invited to any cons because the title was considered Marvel's ugly step child, it was ok as a "toy book" but not good enough to be considered great like Dark Knight Returns and Watchmen. When I flip through the old ads and I see the mail order dealers claiming G.I.Joe as the "Hottest book of the 80's" I do laugh at it sometimes. I think even Jim Shooter said the title was a big seller but only via the mail subscriptions.
G.I Joe ARAH is the single greatest comic book ever written! And I'm not saying that just because I grew up with the toy line... or watched the cartoon religiously... or, well... you get the idea.
Been a fan since the 80s. Didn't read anything after 155 til 301 and it's been the best comic in the industry. Some of hamas best work and both artists might be the best 2. Masculine art and woke free which is a Dimond in a coal mine right now. Just gi joe VS Cobra. Thank you hama and mooneyham and crew and image for making this greatness
Larry I gave a lot of shit. When you killed Doc and friends I cried. When you killed Cool Breeze. I even got excited when you put Megatron in a few issues.
As kid it was my favorite part of the month to get to grocery store and get the new issues, from 1 on. The cartoons were crap to my 12 year old brain, the comics was my ARAH canon. Back then Cons weren’t what they are now, plus our parents would never take us to one period! lol, too busy making us mow the yard and stuff 😂
If possible, I'd like to see a crossover comic called Street Fighter x G.I. Joe x Transformers announced and realized. My question is, will you announce Street Fighter x G.I. Joe x Transformers?

I respect G.I.Joe comic book writer: Larry Hama, and I like the G.I.Joe characters that he has created. I also like his G.I.Joe comic book stories that Larry Hama has written. But, the only thing that bothers me, In this Skybound Interview, Is his cursing, and use of porfanity. I feel cursing, and profanity, Is NOT necessary, If you are talking about, a comic book, about G.I.Joe action figures, and toys.
Larry Hama won't be able to work much longer due to medical reasons. The fact that he still has to work at all is shameful. This guy is responsible for a huge chunk of our childhoods, and he gets nothing for it even though his creations still make a ton of money for Hasbro.
I still don't understand HOW Larry thought it was a good idea to "endorse" that absolutely awful "sNAKE eYES" dumpster fire? Fans don't like when you crap all over a beloved character like Snake Eyes. Race swapping is never a good thing.
Happy 75th birthday Larry!🎉
Same.
Much respect to Larry Hama - he’s the only comic writer I’ve read continually over the past 42 years of my life.
Larry Hama is a legend! Love all the G.I. Joe Comic Books and all the G.I. Joe Action Figures

Larry, THANK YOU! You inspired a generation. I personally proudly served 20 years of service to the US Air Force.
Living Legend! Yo Joe!
Congrats on the record-breaking Kickstarter for the comics! You're awesome, Larry!!

Love this guy! Those early Joe issues were amazing. Larry is incredible as a writer and an artist. (I am one of those 40 year olds he talked about)
