Imagine if this man had the same drive to go into med school that he does to convince us the adjective of a hedgehog matters. We’d probably all be immortal by now.
They did the same thing with Tails. If you play with Tails in Sonic 3 now, Hyper Tails has been renamed back to Super Tails. He still gets a transformation with the Chaos Emeralds though.
Thankfully the "only male hedgehogs get super" thing isn't true anymore thanks to frontiers confirming Super Knuckles canonically exists making it no longer an exclusive club.
Flynn put that line in just to see if he could get away with it. Unfortunately it does not confirm (or disprove) echidnas getting super forms. Still, I'm happy it was there! Hopefully the other characters get those forms. The Super Tails funko exists after all!
I always interpreted it as only male hedgehogs could get the Yellow spiky hair super form, making it some kind of advanced superform compared to everyone else's. Which kind of seems to be the case. And to enter a bit of headcanon territory it would also explain why Hyper Sonic goes from yellow to white/multi colour while everyone else's hyper form stays the same as their super form.
Even if only male hedgehog gets super forms was a thing it only prove that it exclusive to Sonic Post 06 as shadow or even silver never go super alongside him and Sonic Heroes I believe super tails and knuckles were supposed to be implemented but for some strange reason Sonic team found it comical to just grant them golden shields and dub that Super Tails and Super Knuckles
I assume that the reason why the “Hyper Amy” name hasn’t been used, is likely because Sonic Origins Plus was a little rushed. If they had enough time to complete Origins Plus, That error with not mentioning that Amy Can be super by using the 7 Chaos Emeralds would be fixed, same with instead of calling her Super Amy by getting the Super Emeralds, they would Call her “Hyper Amy” like it’s supposed to be. This is just What I assume, but since Sonic Origins has a lot of problems, I suspect That’s the case.
Personally, I think the "Super Amy" bit was probably just an oversight, since Amy seems pretty rushed anyway. She's undoubtedly going to get a Super form in Sonic Superstars, so I'm hoping we get to see proper designs for her and the rest of the cast instead of just palette glows. After all, it's a 3D game this time, so they don't need to do entirely new sprite sheets, or anything. Just some tweaked models and animations.
I'd advise you not to get your hopes up. I do think all of the characters will go Super, because it would be weird if only one playable character could, but most likely Sonic will be the only one with a different model for his Super form. They're probably going to go the Mania route, where everyone else just glows a brighter version of their normal color. If we're unlucky, we may get a repeat of Sonic Heroes, with Tails, Knuckles, and Amy just getting a yellow aura around them, implying that they're not truly Super, but that Super Sonic is sharing his energy with them. Hoo boy. Imagine how mad fans will be if they pulled that again. The interesting thing is it will be hard to get around the "canon" argument this time. I think it's safe to say that all four characters together will be canon. So people won't be able to say, "Tails alone isn't canon. So Super Tails isn't canon." If they're all Super, it's undeniably canon.
@@TheZeroNeonix Here's the thing though, it's Sega. Or should I say, SegaSammy. The reason why the "canon" (which I'd like to remind they haven't been stingy about re-retconning over and over) and the storytelling has been the way it has for the past two decades is because the latter half of that name, Sammy, only sees Sonic as good PR, "The hero of children" they called him (there is a video called "Why Isn't SEGA Overprotective of its Intellectual Property?" that goes into more detail than I care to). Plus this whole situation with Amy to me feels like the weird sexism thing, because allow me to direct your attention to Cream the Rabbit. A character that hasn't had a prominent role beyond the 2 decades of games we've had. In IDW (and likely the games themselves), as revealed by Ian on his Bumblekast podcast, the recent stipulation is basically "she only NOW wants to go to 'hero camp' because she's only NOW wanting to make a difference despite that past games have shown her to be very capable, because all those past times she was with the crew, it was simply her hanging out with them, nothing more." Now whether or not it's a case of they just simply don't know the history or are actively denying it because she's a 'girly-girl', I can't 100% say. But I've seen this issue be a constant thorn in Japanese media that's even remotely family friendly anime-like. It's a different company but some of the early Mega Man Battle Network games were also subject to this weird "boys only" exclusivity when it came to their main female cast members (Mayl and Yai). In one of the titles, I believe the first one, they show that the two of them are capable Net Battlers to where they made it to the semi-finals of a MAJOR tournament, but once the final act against the main big bag started, the two of them stayed home while the other main protag boys go and be the big strong men and fight the bad guy. And this was back in the EARLY 2000'S. And while I haven't checked out a lot of anime nowadays to double check, there is always still this weird air of 'if they're a girly-girl, there is no place for them to fight'. I think that's why Amy recently has been more portrayed as a tomboyish kind of gal (despite there being the perfect character to use being Sally as at least the go-to one) and less 'girly'. I'm not sure, but I find it weird they not only let the male hedgehogs go super, but even the age argument is null and void because Tails and Charmy are allowed to go hang with the boys and get into danger and they're BARELY OLDER THAN HER. So there really is no excuse.
If you think about the amount of sprites she needed for each game, yeah, she kind of is. I'm more bothered about the lack of after images on hyper form though.
@@dragondelsur5156 Isn't it like just 1 sheet across all 4 games? I feel like it wouldn't have been that hard, if it was just the sprite sheet that's one thing, but the fact that they didn't just adjust the same general values of Amy can go Super then Hyper like Tails is suspect. Granted their reasonings on the Super Emeralds and the Hyper form in general were always wonky. Like their early reason for getting rid of the Super Emeralds in the first place was so they wouldn't have multiple gems to keep track of (despite them going on to make a ton of other chaos emerald copy cat plot devices). Plus a lot of the weird lore reasonings, as stated by Ian on his Bumblekast, was thanks due to Yuji Naka basically leaving behind his stance on stuff and the people in Sonic Team needing to basically have to adopt and carry on his mindset. It's why the whole "2 worlds canon" (Earth = Sonic cast being the only animal people on a human populated planet; Sonic's World (no, it didn't even have a proper name) = Main cast on animal people populated planet with Eggman as the only human) was ever a thing in the first place. Then later they tried doing the "Neo Classic timeline is an alt dimension" reason (which is now thankfully not the case anymore) which just adds 2 more variations on top of the already existing ones and complicates trying to keep track of the series even further. It's the same situation as to what happened to Paper Mario from Sticker Star onwards. A higher up that's seen as the "word of God" says something for the entry at the time, then the people around/below them just doing a marathon run with it.
@@toonman5099 By amount of sprites, I mean the shit ton of work they had to make in between stage gimmicks, special stages, endings and even her model on the 3D islands. Do remember that all Amy had were her basic running, hugging and later her kidnapping sprites.
Also another thing about Amy, it's been over 20 years (or so) now and are we ever going to talk about the fact that Amy is a witch? Like she does tarot card reading to kind of predicted the future and her Hammer might actually be magical in nature.
I'm still pissed we didn't get Metal Sonic playable. Imagine him waking up in Stardust Speedway and now he needs to somehow get back to Eggman, so he wouldn't just longplay the collection but rather go through random zones that have already been saved and make it to each of Eggman's bases only to find them destroyed and the other robot Sonics mistake him for the real one because he moves as fast as Sonic and looks close enough. Then the final animated cutscene is Metal finding Eggman in the ocean and carrying him away to a nearby island called Carnival Island and that ties into Knuckles' Chaotix
@@korza6foura333 then give us episode Metal, Origins was supposed to be for the new and old fans, so give us old fans something new. Metal deserves to be playable more than Amy imo. Or Idk, have a challange creator where you can make and upload challanges and fans always have something to do
It does seem like a glitch of some sort. In OG S3&K, when Tails got the Chaos Emeralds, nothing happened. He wasn't able to go Super until he got the Super Emeralds (which is now his Hyper form because Mania and Origins changed a few things). But, Origins seems to treat Amy a bit differently. It doesn't say she can transform with the Chaos Emeralds...but she can. Getting the Super Emeralds allows her to become "Super Amy", but not only did she already have a Super form from the Chaos Emeralds, but this "Super" form has the extra hammer power, like a Super+ form (aka Hyper). Long story short, some flags probably got fucked up because it was rushed...again...ffs.
I always thought anyone could go super but they needed to have a connection to the emeralds "mostly from being close and using them in the pass" most of them just never tried or wanted to."
Sonic: Collected the first six emeralds in Sonic 1, didn't get to go Super until the next game Tails: Helped collect all seven emeralds in Sonic 2, then worked alongside Super Sonic and didn't get to go Super until the next game Knuckles: Spent his entire life caring for the Master Emerald (or, according to an old instruction manual, even his own set of Chaos Emeralds) and gets to go Super in his debut game Shadow: Literally genetically engineered to be compatible with Chaos Emerald energy, surpasses anyone else alive in its use, gets to go Super in his first appearance Blaze: Similar to Knuckles; the guardian of her land's Sol Emeralds and can use their powers with ease. Gets to go Burning in her first appearance. Your guess is as good as mine for Silver, though. He does plenty of time travel with Chaos Control, but there's really very little time between his first exposure to them and his first time going Super.
Maybe if you don't have a natural connection to the Emeralds like Knuckles or Shadow, it takes a certain time window of exposure. It would explain why Sonic could go Super before Tails could; he'd been around them longer. It's also possible a lack of conflict within yourself and the strength of your feelings/conviction comes into play (hence the Adventure-era "Chaos comes from the heart"). Sonic is certain of who he is and his feelings, able to give himself wholly to his cause, whereas Tails was still insecure and coming into his own in the Classic era. Someone mentioned that every time Shadow has gone super in the main games, it's immediately preceded by reaching closure and resolving doubt regarding his identity. Silver spends a good deal of 06 conflicted about whether he's doing the right thing, but by the end of the game he's sure of what is right.
honestly I like the colour choice, unlike Mighty or Ray which just glow a bright red or yellow Amy goes full on white. like- stop when she reaches the peak of that animation and She's a glowing white SuperHog. much brighter than Her usual pink.
The thing I like about Sonic and friends having these kind of forms is that they need like a certain thing(s) to achieve them. Like, Sonic can’t go super on his own; he needs all the Chaos Emeralds to do it. I’m not that much of a Dragon Ball fan, but I think that Goku and other characters just need to “concentrate” or something to achieve their sayin forms. And with each new form, I always wonder why they go back to the “weaker” form or not just activate them right away. For Sonic, they at least have a reason for not using those forms in every battle. Just how I feel, anyway.
@@Multi-fandomEldingArum Instead of just whining at you like someone else, I'll actually explain. There are several reasons characters in Dragon Ball don't always go to their best transformation. The most common excuse is that they may just not need to. There's no need to transform into a Super Saiyan God to fight someone you could handle easily in your base state. It'd be boring to watch, not to mention unsportsmanlike. Second, each transformation carries a stamina cost. Most of the Saiyans have mastered the basic Super Saiyan state enough that they can minimize the energy loss over time, but higher levels will tire them out eventually. Running out of stamina and becoming exhausted has actually happened before in the series--Frieza, for example, suffered from that flaw multiple times in his pursuit for power, resulting in forms that were stronger than his opponents but couldn't be maintained for long. Super Saiyan 3 especially is almost never used, because its great strength just doesn't make up for the utterly absurd energy drain it carries. Third, actual control of the transformations and their mental effects can be difficult. Goku's use of Ultra Instinct in DB Super regularly left him completely drained, and near the end of that arc nearly killed him when his body finally failed to keep up with it. Earlier on in DBZ, the Super Saiyan transformations exaggerating the overconfidence and sadism of their users actually got the heroes into deep shit several times, particularly with Gohan--He had a chance to kill Cell quickly, but preferred to torment him first, and Cell's self-destructing response to that got Goku killed. Even earlier in the series than that, the Kaioken technique (which isn't actually a transformation, but tends to be included as one in games and discussions) was a DIRECT implementation of this problem, as the entire point of the technique is that it gives you great power but totally wrecks your body as a result if you fail to perfectly control the energy.
@@ChibiTails I'm sry I didn't have the time to type several paragraphs like u did & instead shortened it to a recommendation to a series I love. thx for explainin for me tho
Looks more like an oversight really lol I'd say screw it. Amy is Super with the Chaos Emeralds, and Hyper with the Super Emeralds. As if Sega is doing the canon.
IF she ever get's her Hyper Form again, I hope that her design can be changed to have her head spikes raised up & dawning a Rosegold colour to her form. THEN we could call it a proper transformation
Adam Bryce Thomas did a really nice picture of Super Amy a little while back, and reposted it once the news of Amy not having raised quills was mentioned in the game, even a great artist like him knows Amy deserves more respect, not even raised quills? Come on.
Theres a mod for her for Sonic 3 AIR that gives her her a unique moveset and raised quills in Super form and its amazing. She even flies after the Marble Garden Robotnik instead of needing Tails to carry her (actually she uses a glider when not Super but I digress)
Burning Blaze was a cop-out tbh. They gave this girl her own personal Emeralds that aren't bound by Chaos Emerald rules and instead of a cool magical girl inspired transformation, we got a godawful color scheme that even the comics with their unending hunger for direct game references refuse to utilize as it was in-game. If they ever bring back this transformation in the games, she really needs an overhaul.
Sad that super tails, super knuckles, and super amy are now referred to as “Tails with super powers” “Knuckles with super powers” and “Amy with super powers” respectively as of sonic superstars. Guess the mandate remained after all…
I think it's pretty telling that the first female Sonic character to get a super form is Nicole the Holo-Lynx, an original character from the Archie Comics (and techically SatAM but she was just a legally distinct tricorder derivative there) and she used a red star ring (which in the Arichie Sonic lore has the same properties as a regular power ring (Power rings gave Sonic a small boost at most in the Archie Comics, SatAM and for some reason, Sonic X) but with the potential for much greater energy).
I hate that I predicted that this exact thing would happen way back when Origins Plus was announced. Amy gets the old Tails treatment and needs 14 emeralds just to go Super. Amy deserves better! I just hope Sega doesn't take 28 years just to give her a Hyper form like they did for Tails.
It's weirder because in Sonic 1 and 2, they call her Super Amy with the Chaos Emeralds. She has one in 3K, but needs the Super Emeralds to be called Super? The heck?
I'm personally still against it, it does not do Tails and/or Amy(if they change it) good, it just does Sonic and Knuckles dirty. Having the power of the emeralds be a free for all is silly, there was meant to be an element of inherit compatibility with it(Which is an actual real thing, diffrent people have diffrent talents). If there wasn't, why don't I see Cream Chaos Control all over the place the same way Shadow does?
@@lpfan4491 With Creams unexplained link to the Chao does she properly has even more of a justification to get to abuse emerald powers than Tails and Amy do.
I always thought that since the Super Hedgehogs are based on Shonen Anime like Dragonball, it would have made a lot of sense for Sol Emerald-induced transformations to be Shojo-styled like Sailor Moon or Pretty Cure to mirror that they're alternate versions, but alas. Wish they could be used for other characters like Amy, but no, Rush fairly explicitly implied that Blaze is the only one who can command their fiery power. Which makes the fact that they even have a guardian complete nonsense because who tf is supposed to abuse their power if no one else can use them? Then again, Rush also fairly explicitly implied that Eggman Nega is an alternate version of Eggman from Blaze's world and we saw how that went in the grand scheme of things, so I wouldn't mind them overhauling how the Sol Emeralds work.
@@rainpooper7088Rush in itself is a big mass of unrealized potential, I don't even exclusively blame materials external to it. Heck, they missed the absolute most basic idea possible. Being a user of emerald energy already, Blaze should be able to use the Chaos Emeralds no issue(They have to be sufficiently similar, or else Knuckles would not have been able to detect Blaze having an emerald). And despite not having any Pyrokinetic power at the moment, Sonic legitimately had prior experiences with using fire, which would be enough of a reason why he could at least make limited usage of the Sol Emeralds.
I have an theory that maybe it would be unfair if Amy just got a Hyper form off rip while Tails in sonic 3 had to work hard for his "SUPER" form in that game, And I think they gave her the form with only 7 is cause nowadays if they gave Amy the same treatment they gave tails back then where had to get all 14 to even go super it would be seen as unfair for Amy players and no one would play as her. And maybe that is the reason why in her trailer they said super-charged Amy instead of just saying super.
I think the line that gets me in all of this is "give yourself some easy wins." It definitely is not that huge a deal, we'll all live if Amy doesn't become "Hyper Amy". But, like, this is just the easiest win of all time. 0 fans would have cared in the negative if the game labeled her "Hyper Amy". But we all noticed when it didn't. And it's the same story every time, Sega always seems to be shooting itself in the foot instead of taking these easy wins.
My understanding of super transformations is that the can be achieved by beings with a natural connection to chaos energy but those who don’t can bypass that entirely by using super emeralds And tails mighty ray and amy only have gameplay equal opportunity
Amy deserves a hyper form honestly. More than Hyper tails since I’m the original S3&K you needed to collect all 14 chaos and super emeralds to have Super Tails
I've always had a feeling that the Super forms for Tails, Knuckles, and Amy in Sonic 3 & Knuckles have always been the classic versions of the forms, while the modern variations have never really gotten a chance to use them. Maybe they could have helped with the Perfect Chaos fight? Not sure. The closest thing we've gotten to the Modern Suoer forms were in Heroes, but that wasn't exactly Tails and Knuckles using the Chaos Emeralds. Just like Tails did with the Flickys, Sonic shared his power with the rest of Team Sonic so that's probably why they weren't Super, mainly because Sonic never tried that before, which only ended up with bubbles. Then he just thought "Good enough" and went of to fight Metal Overlord with them. Maybe in the final update we'll get to see them. But that's a hard maybe since I've been staying away from any story spoilers. Superstars is also bringing Super forms back, so who knows what they'll do, considering they're now using models instead of sprites. Anything could happen at this point, and I'm nervously excited for it.
What gets me is that Sega has already well established multiple characters going super all at once, up to at least 3 characters, with Sonic, Shadow, and Silver. So when a threat that needs the form appears, what's stopping everyone from going Super all at once? There's gotta be a reason why it's only Sonic most of the time, other than thematic and executive reasons. It's still kind of hilarious that Shadow never joined in the fight against Metal Overlord, even though it's his boss in Shadow Generations. It HAD to be Team Sonic, even though neither Knuckles nor Tails were allowed to go super, and the one other character than Sonic confirmed to HAVE a super form in the modern series sat the whole thing out. I know it's Sonic Heroes, and Team Sonic was the big deal, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles, but it's still amusing to me if you look at it logically.
Honestly in this case, I think its more they kind of slapped her in without much thought and so not showing she can be Super until after the Super Emeralds are obtained is probably just a bug, but since its not a game-breaking bug, they aren't inclined to fix it. After all, if Chaos Emeralds transformed Amy isn't Super, then what is it? She moves faster, is invincible, gets the super music, drains her rings, etc. Its a Super. And its the only Super in the game that doesn't tell you it exists, so I'm more inclined to believe its just a bug. If they really were wary of her being Hyper, I think she wouldn't have that Super version exist at all and she'd be like Tails in the original S3&K where she only gets her transformation AFTER the Super Emeralds are obtained and gets nothing when obtaining the Chaos Emeralds
There’s a difference between Super Form and Super States. Sonic, Shadow, and Silver are the only ones with a Super Form. Everyone else who has gone super, enters a Super States. Knuckles, Tails, Amy, Neo Metal Sonic, and Eggman (as said in the most recent twitter takeover) can only go into Super States
*Im just happy that the "Only male hedgehogs can turn super" thing isn't the case anymore.* Sega takes baby steps, but atleast they're taking steps to change some mandates. 😅
You know they could do with her? F***ING THOR!” She’s a hammer wielding maniac, who spawns hammers endlessly. Can wield super now, so for her hyper, give her lightning lol.
I think it is a bit silly, but I think it was done to show how 'normal' she is. She is portrayed as the least skilled out of the main cast, for example in sonic adventure where she is far slower than the others. Perhaps she is just being shown to be not as skilled as the others, and therefore needs the super emeralds to go super. Also I totally agree with giving her the hammer jump, the copy paste drop dash is lame. I think her midair special should be the same except when you land you do a hammer jump instead of the drop-peel-out that she normally does. Should could gain height, like tails. Except it would be faster and you would keep horizontal momentum, plus the hammer-spin could also act as an insta-sheild.
I'd buy that, if Tails didn't get Hyper. Alternatively, this might mean Amy has a final power level beyond the boy's hyper - which would make Amy stronger than Sonic (which would be a hell of a reverse card - making Amy the Luke to Sonic's Anekin.) Imagine she finds hyper form, and hyper Sonic, Shadow and Knuckles have to combine powers to help her control that power (because she towels Sonic and Shadow in hyper form), with Tails commanding from the Tornado Mk 3.
currently halfway through the video, but i just wanted to mention that going hyper with amy DOES still let you sit underwater without drowning, so the super thing was most likely an oversight.
I know this question is a bit offtopic for the video, but what's your top five or so Sonic games? Always something I'm interested to know :) And I love your retrospectives BTW!
I don't usually comment on things but isn't Burning Blaze a Super? I never put much stock in the male hedgehogs only have Super forms thing anyway. I figured they wouldn't go far with Super Amy due to her initial role and arc. She gets captured by Metal Sonic. Making Amy too powerful in the same game that features CD, might be jarring, I dunno. Her arc in Adventure always felt significant too. Her classic self becoming powerful would undermine that too. But those are just some theories I thought of. I personally like Mighty and Ray more.
Hyper isn’t important anyways. It’s already been stated by izuka or whatever his name is, that the super emeralds were really only added as a bonus form for getting both sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles, and locking the games on together. He also said while in the making of adventure 1, that they basically went back and “cleaned up” all the emeralds, so that chaos emeralds were the only ones. The form is useless and was never needed in the first place. And it is better that it stays as a bonus, as it was never important.
I dunno Nick, like im a huge Amy fan but i kinda think she doesnt need a fancy super form to be "good on her own" y'know? Like super forms are a thing sure and they are incredibly cool yes but i think not ALL characters needs them, like if it was me i could had named both Tails and Amy's super forms into something that doesnt imply "they are the same super form as the main hedgehogs" because if you think about it it just kinda detracts from them a bit because its "its super sonic but its a girl". And about Hyper, like i dont think its "because we dont want to be compared to DBZ" i think Iizuka made up that on the spot, after all Nick you know very well that Iizuka tends to make shit up on the spot whenever people asks him very specific questions, i think it all comes to if the secondary super form adds anything to the gameplay that Super Sonic already did, what does Hyper Sonic outside of the screen clearing nuke that makes it special or different gameplay wise from Super Sonic? and the answer is little to nothing really, it gets a bit more faster, a bit more height in his jump and the insta shield becomes a screen clearing sonic boom, that's it, besides that its just Super Sonic with a fancy strobing multicolored effect and bigger sparks as aura. Look Nick, and everybody that reads this, i get it i also love Hyper Sonic and i will always love that form because it means a lot to me as well, i accidentally got the form in my first playthrough when i entered the hidden palace in Mushroom Hill Zone and figured that i could easly get the super emeralds if i just play the level, enter the rainbow warp ring and get one of the super emeralds then finish the level and reboot the game, rinse and repeat, once i got them all i got this super odd cutscene and then the words *SONIC CAN NOW BECOME HYPER SONIC* appears on the screen and then when i accidentally use Super Sonic instead i get this insanely cool looking form, and that gave me the idea of doing the same for the others and i was so impressed that it was a thing, this is why Sonic 3 is still my favorite game in the franchise till this day and the proof of why sonic was a force of nature back then. But later on with time i realized that the form is just Super Sonic but "cooler" it isnt different from Super Sonic at all and when i had that realization i understood why the form didnt came back since, its redundant, why we want 2 super forms when Super Sonic is already the defacto one? there is no way you can make a better form than Super Sonic, and nobody bring me side games forms not even the Werehog into the discussion because those arent produced BY THE EMERALDS, Darkspine happend from 3 of the world rings, Excalibur came from the union of the awakened Caliburn plus the 3 sacred swords and its a literal golden armor not technically a super FORM, and Prism Sonic i dunno what to say Nick because i dont see it as a "super" form but mostly a form sonic takes from overlong expossure to the Paradigm Prism's energy, like a residual thing. And yes it looks like i like to bash any form sonic has after Super and Hyper because again they dont come directly from the Chaos Emeralds so it doesnt kinda feel like they were an organic thing of the character, and yes Super Sonic isnt even an "organic" thing that sonic can do without the emeralds, but it seems that its something that AWAKENS from him everytime he is in contact with them, imagine if Sonic kept every single super form he got in any of his games, how nightmarish could that be to make it even possible for you to use it? what could be the purpose of each of them in game? they add more to what sonic can do normally? these i think are the questions that Sonic Team has in their mind each time they want to add Super Sonic or a different form if they feel its justified. They default to Super because ITS EASIER, but to be honest i couldnt name Super to every super form, more when they dont look "super" enough, like tails has a faint white/golden glow and the flickies, Knuckles has a pinkish/white glow, Mighty again same thing as Knuckles, Ray same thing as Tails, and Amy is in the same ballpark than Knuckles, what makes them different is their secondary special attack, Knuckles makes the screen shake when he hits a wall, same for Mighty, Ray well.....flies faster? i mean im sure he has something, and Amy is in the same thing as Tails both have a special gimmick that makes them insanely OP, Inf Hammer Throw/homing golden flickies. To be honest? i could had named Powered Amy Rose or maybe Mega Amy Rose its an inbetween Super and Hyper because she doesnt feel "super" nor "hyper" to me, and Tails instead of Hyper Tails i could had named him Golden Tails and make him glow with a golden light, Amy its fine she doesnt need the upright stand up quills like i like to think they dont want to make any links between Fleetway Amy and a possible Super Amy that looks like her, so i think its fine. Sorry for the long ass rant and wall of text up there btw, its just that i dont think we need to keep holding onto the Hyper form anymore in my opinion? its not that i dont want people to talk about it, on the contrary i do, but i think we need to let go this in the past where it should be, yes we need sega to do better and yes its important but guys, come on, just let the Hyper thing go already.
And that’s not all that Sega did. I feel like one of your upcoming videos should be “Why Sonic’s Voice Matters” for Sonic CD, because they went out of their way to remove it for Origins when it was there from 1993-2011.
Ian himself confirmed that the only people who canonically have super forms are the 3 hedgehogs and blaze( mand maybe surge but not gonna get into that). Nobody else matters..nobody cares about super amy or hyper tails. None of those are canon to begin with, unless they re introduce hyper sonic
Having grown up with Archie comics, I'm used to Chaos adjectives being all over the place. BUT WHY DO THE SUPER EMERALDS NOT GIVE AMY AFTERIMAGES?!! Now that's the stuff that keeps me up at night.
I honestly don’t care if Amy has a form or not. Don’t get me wrong, I love Amy’s character since Sonic X and I honestly think she’s one of my favorite characters in the IDW comic because of how well written she is but to be fair compare to the other Hedgehogs, she doesn’t really have signature abilities or over top superpowers like the boys do. Like Sonic is the Fastest Thing alive, Shadow is the Ultimate Life form, and Sliver is time traveler who can use psychic powers but then you have Amy who just a girl who can wield a really big hammer. Plus I just think she’s good just the way she is cause she still kicks ass and the fact she can defeat strong opponents despite not having a super form just proves how badass she is.
Amy destroys robots with a toy hammer. Either she is magic (semi confirmed) or she is so incredibly strong that she can break steel with a plastic hammer (semi confirmed). Or both!
Amy has more special powers than any other character in the series. hammer, the power of love, the ability to accurately read the future, invisibility, the ability to concentrate the power of love into teleporting love projectiles, and more. That's not even getting into the fact that Amy has been getting buffed like crazy in recent years, to the point where in Sonic Prime she is able to take on Knuckles, Tails, Rogue, and Big all by herself for weeks.
I disagree, Amy has proved time and time again to have special abilities, like being able to locate anyone no matter where they are, having enough strength to lift her entire body, literally being able to turn invisible.
Lets not forget. Super Sonic and The Chaos emeralds are inspired by the Dragon Ball franchise. With that said, one interview with Akira, long before DB Super, he confirmed that female Saiyans con not transform. That obviously changed in DB Super. Everything about the Sonic franchise is Similar to the DB franchise so the theory is that based on Akira's claim, Team Sonic allowed her to go super, but not hyper. The power of the Chaos Emeralds are not limited to only one being. If they wanted to, Cream could of went Super, but not hyper.
Cool analysis. But I think it's not as sinister as you think. Amy is a non canonical character in S3K. It feels like a weird fence-riding moment where they gave all the playable original characters forms in Origins, but still wanted to throw somewhat of a bone to sell players while trying to not be "canon breaking." And as for the male hedgehogs thing, I think it's the same fence-riding; "We don't want to be compared to Dragon Ball, but let us basically make hedgehogs Saiyans." The male thing feels less sexist and more coincidentally the "main" characters happen to be male so only male hedgehogs transform. Sega heads are just that unpredictable and strange. I honestly don't think there's malicious intent behind the decisions.
"The male thing feels less sexist and more coincidentally the "main" characters happen to be male so only male hedgehogs transform." That would have a lot more ground to stand on if it wasn't for it not being a coincidence that all the main characters are males. they did not just do a coin flip for what gender the important characters would be. They even had an important female character Blaze who ended up having her lore fall and largely being sidelines to Silver.
It's not really the DragonBall comparisions, it's because of powerscaling. If Super Sonic can take care of Planet Level Threats, and 3 Super Forms can take down a Universe Level Threat, what crazy enemy would justify the need to use a Hyper Form ?
@@MGLpr0 As if the Sonic universe ever had threat logic. I get what your saying, but it’s still silly to firm a conclusive explanation for super forms of all things.
My personal headcanon for super forms: Super: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Silver, Blaze (Sol Emeralds) Pseudo-Super: Amy, Mighty, Ray, and anyone else added to the classic games. Hyper: Sonic, and potentially Shadow. Other characters like Metal Sonic, Mecha Sonic, and Chaos fall under a category of their own.
Honestly, while I agree with all of this. I also think that if Amy is gonna get her own special Rose-Gold Super Form, it should be in a new adventure. Not some $10 technically not canon DLC for a classic collection. Sega seemed to be implying that Amy, Tails, and Knuckles would be embarking on their own new arcs post Frontiers. And whether that comes in the form of solo titles or a story mode in a new Adventure style game, her meaningful changes should be there, not in a glorified mod.
As dumb as it's sounds i think it's on purpose, since they also removes the name "hyper" tails and now the form with the flickies is super tails AGAIN, it's either a bug or sega changed their mind about it and reverte him back to super (wich makes some sence if amy is based on tails so it carries on to amy, in both ways, bug or intentionally)
I suspect that the "only male hedgehogs" rule was part of an internal design guide and _not_ something intended to define canon. People even discussing canon on this topic is incredibly frustrating. The Simpsons, for example, has an art bible that defines which facial expressions the Simpsons are and are not allowed to show. This doesn't mean that the characters are canonically incapable of making those faces.
Be very careful with the use of the word "sexist", my friend. I see your view point, but it's a very bold claim to make without stronger evidence. As for the subject matter of only hedgehogs or certain male characters getting a Super/Hyper form, I honestly see it as Shonen Series logic. Sega and the Sonic Team are happy to have fans of all genders, but if they had to pick an audience, they are probably going to appeal to males first.
That excuse was already bs for One Piece and it is even more bs here. At least One Piece was one guy's vision, Sonic had so many different hands working on it that even the "It's the creator's vision" angle is completely delusional. As a creator, the moment you pick a female target audience, you have to be ready to instantly forfeit more than half of the potential target audience (boys as well as girls who don't like being put in the pink box) you could have because media for girls is stigmatized as hell. Of course most media doesn't do that, you want to make money after all. TV shows literally get cancelled over prioritizing girls and not being appealing enough to boys, Phoebe and her Unicorn being one of the most recent examples. Saying that girls just need to accept that female characters have to consistently be lesser than the male ones in all forms of media that aren't aggressively pink since they aren't the intended audience is cynical at best and ignorant at worst.
@@rainpooper7088 u're usin logic that not only isn't true in some parts but only works for the west mainly america while sega/sonic is jp & there R all manner of stories in stuff like anime/manga that R released under publishers that aim for particular demographics like shounen/shoujo etc.
@@rainpooper7088 You have a point too. I'm not saying it's right, but it is a business practice that still goes on today. There must be plenty of productions that decided to follow the money rather than do better by both audiences. For the Sonic franchise, I'll just consider it baby steps for now. We got a super form for Amy where one never existed previously. Maybe the fan hype over it will open the door for more possibilities.
I genuinely thought that the reveal that even Tails and Knuckles' Super forms had been demoted to "Super Powers" in Superstars were a joke on Sega's weirdly strict guideline on Super Forms, but nope, they've gone ahead and retroactively removed the Super suffix from their Chaos Emerald-empowered forms despite the fact that they they're obtained in the same manner and look and play the same as ever. It just seems so arbitrarily petty. Granted, when the only change is the name, I suppose it doesn't really matter as long as the forms keep showing up, but it's just such a weird hang-up for Sega to have.
Imagine the reaction to this video of the poor programmer who wrote "super" and hyper" offset by one line of code, making the "super" text appearing for "hyper" and nothing to appear for "super".
the franchise needs a reboot and i dont know why they wont do it. characters and storylines need to be reworked and tweaked and its so easy to do it just do what the comics did! you cant just drop a bombshell like "only male hedgehogs can go super" while also having it be said that only those of pure hearts can use the emeralds to grant there desires!
As an adult female Sonic fan, I fully support this message 😂 but yeah I grew up with Amy being one of my faves, she was a strong girl who could fend for herself, while still loving pink and looking for love. She deserves so much better, and am so happy to hear someone talk positively about her. Keep making the great content!
I've always had the theory that Sonic was descended from Shadow and thus genetically suited to use chaos powers. It's just too random for it to be a natural thing. Silver would also be a descendant of Sonic and Shadow. This means Amy would not be able to go super unless she was genetically related, and that is probably something to avoid if the two get together. But this is my headcanon, and a total coincidence. I prefer the idea of Amy being able to go super, and ironically it's the canon where she should most be able to go super. So there are options there for them to explain it properly without using a stupid sexist idea. They just need to choose. Genetic reasons where Sonic is related to Shadow, or just let Amy go super. The "boys only" excuse is absolutely unnacceptable and they should feel so embarassed for such a lazy answer.
Gonna be interesting to see what happens when you get all the Emeralds in Superstar. I mean, we KNOW what will happen… But since Amy seems to play like she does in Orgins, and they kept Super Tails and Knuckles in Mania… Gonna be neat to see them all turn super in 3D at least.

They did the same thing with Tails. If you play with Tails in Sonic 3 now, Hyper Tails has been renamed back to Super Tails. He still gets a transformation with the Chaos Emeralds though.
The fan arts of Amy in Super and Hyper Forms speak for itself. She deserves full use of the form like the rest.
"Only male hedgehogs get super" was never a thing, it was a liscencing guideline. (Not reflective of actual lore)
Also the second movie shows (kinda) a super echidna
Even if only male hedgehog gets super forms was a thing it only prove that it exclusive to Sonic Post 06 as shadow or even silver never go super alongside him and Sonic Heroes I believe super tails and knuckles were supposed to be implemented but for some strange reason Sonic team found it comical to just grant them golden shields and dub that Super Tails and Super Knuckles

I assume that the reason why the “Hyper Amy” name hasn’t been used, is likely because Sonic Origins Plus was a little rushed.
If they had enough time to complete Origins Plus, That error
with not mentioning that Amy Can be super by using the 7 Chaos Emeralds would be fixed, same with instead of calling her Super Amy by getting the Super Emeralds, they would Call her “Hyper Amy” like it’s supposed to be. This is just What I assume, but since Sonic Origins has a lot of problems, I suspect That’s the case.
Yeah youre probably right
Not to mention the gameplay mechanics on there as well
It's probably the same situation as super tails in S3&k
I don’t Think so, as Tails doesn’t have a super-like form when he has the Chaos Emeralds, it’s only for the super emeralds.
But they retroactively made hyper tails back to super tails
In IDW (and likely the games themselves), as revealed by Ian on his Bumblekast podcast, the recent stipulation is basically "she only NOW wants to go to 'hero camp' because she's only NOW wanting to make a difference despite that past games have shown her to be very capable, because all those past times she was with the crew, it was simply her hanging out with them, nothing more."
Now whether or not it's a case of they just simply don't know the history or are actively denying it because she's a 'girly-girl', I can't 100% say.
Also in the final horizon update for frontiers, one of her upgrades literally lets her ride her hammer like a broomstick
I feel like the "Now Amy can be Super/Hyper Amy" strings are probably just bugged because Origins Plus was clearly a rush job.
Are you sure it wasn't Sonic 2? Because I tried there and Tails didn't go super.
@@dragondelsur5156 Tails didn't have any Super form in Sonic 2.
I always thought anyone could go super but they needed to have a connection to the emeralds "mostly from being close and using them in the pass" most of them just never tried or wanted to."
Sonic: Collected the first six emeralds in Sonic 1, didn't get to go Super until the next game
Tails: Helped collect all seven emeralds in Sonic 2, then worked alongside Super Sonic and didn't get to go Super until the next game
Knuckles: Spent his entire life caring for the Master Emerald (or, according to an old instruction manual, even his own set of Chaos Emeralds) and gets to go Super in his debut game
Shadow: Literally genetically engineered to be compatible with Chaos Emerald energy, surpasses anyone else alive in its use, gets to go Super in his first appearance
Blaze: Similar to Knuckles; the guardian of her land's Sol Emeralds and can use their powers with ease.
U wouldn't be sayin this if u watched or read the series which u should
@@nightlydata2181 I had a feeling I might be wrong.

I'd say screw it.
Yo, are we just gonna forget about Burning Blaze? She's technically a Super woman.
No one remembers Blaze, not even Sega themselves and that's a good thing, she's perfectly fine as she is now
Burning Blaze was a cop-out tbh.
@@rainpooper7088 Burning Blaze is not a traditional super form, it's an enhancement to her fire powers.

That timeline description at 5:51 irked my soul the second I saw the Advance 2 and 3's placement side-by-side.
Alledgedly Sammy sees Sonic as important for their image, that's why they have such a strong stranglehold on things that seem trivial.
And it's the same story every time, Sega always seems to be shooting itself in the foot instead of taking these easy wins.
sega only gave amy a super/hyper form to shut people up about wanting amy to have a super/hyper form, it is a 1 time thing and willl never come back
Sonic Superstars would like to have a word with you
My understanding of super transformations is that the can be achieved by beings with a natural connection to chaos energy but those who don’t can bypass that entirely by using super emeralds
And tails mighty ray and amy only have gameplay equal opportunity
Amy deserves a hyper form honestly. More than Hyper tails since I’m the original S3&K you needed to collect all 14 chaos and super emeralds to have Super Tails
She DOES have a hyper form. The reason they didn't call it that... is because Amy in this game is probably rushed and they just simply forgotten.
Bro’s getting pissed off over a word even tho they still had Hyper Amy in the game, it’s probably a mistake seeing as Origins Plus was rushed.
Yah bro yapping and crying over it is crazy
5:09 It's Super Saiyan Rosé (french for pink) like the wine not Super Saiyan Rose like the flower.
If they really were wary of her being Hyper, I think she wouldn't have that Super version exist at all and she'd be like Tails in the original S3&K where she only gets her transformation AFTER the Super Emeralds are obtained and gets nothing when obtaining the Chaos Emeralds
iv always thought it would be cool if everyone gets color swamped when a super form is active
purple knuckles
blue tails
green Amy
Green Amy gives Manic vibes. Just... no.
Also Amy's month should be May - it's literally an anagram of her name!
man i love color swamps
There’s a difference between Super Form and Super States. Sonic, Shadow, and Silver are the only ones with a Super Form. Everyone else who has gone super, enters a Super States. Knuckles, Tails, Amy, Neo Metal Sonic, and Eggman (as said in the most recent twitter takeover) can only go into Super States
Okay but super sonic is yellow, piss is also yellow, and since piss is stored in the balls she can't chaosify her piss cuz she has no balls
Alternatively, this might mean Amy has a final power level beyond the boy's hyper - which would make Amy stronger than Sonic (which would be a hell of a reverse card - making Amy the Luke to Sonic's Anekin.)
Imagine she finds hyper form, and hyper Sonic, Shadow and Knuckles have to combine powers to help her control that power (because she towels Sonic and Shadow in hyper form), with Tails commanding from the Tornado Mk 3.
Or it's just a bug, 'cause you know, Origins has zero bugs.
@@blackjacktrial what the hell are you talking about lmao
currently halfway through the video, but i just wanted to mention that going hyper with amy DOES still let you sit underwater without drowning, so the super thing was most likely an oversight.
I know this question is a bit offtopic for the video, but what's your top five or so Sonic games? Always something I'm interested to know :) And I love your retrospectives BTW!
I see this as an oversight rather than an intentional error
I don't usually comment on things but isn't Burning Blaze a Super? I never put much stock in the male hedgehogs only have Super forms thing anyway.
I figured they wouldn't go far with Super Amy due to her initial role and arc. She gets captured by Metal Sonic. Making Amy too powerful in the same game that features CD, might be jarring, I dunno. Her arc in Adventure always felt significant too. Her classic self becoming powerful would undermine that too. But those are just some theories I thought of.
I personally like Mighty and Ray more.
Shes a Burning, different set of Emeralds so they could get away with it if they wanted.
Hyper Amy dosen’t do her taxes.
Sorry for the long ass rant and wall of text up there btw, its just that i dont think we need to keep holding onto the Hyper form anymore in my opinion? its not that i dont want people to talk about it, on the contrary i do, but i think we need to let go this in the past where it should be, yes we need sega to do better and yes its important but guys, come on, just let the Hyper thing go already.
dont forget you can boost in any direction you want with hyper sonic and hyper knuckles can cling on walls to destroy all enemies on screen
Are we all forgetting about Burning Blaze?
5:29 just like in Sonic X. She can generate new mallets.

IMO they should embrace the idea of her being a mage and give her a Magical Girl transformation
I think they were using tails as a base for Amy’s route. Specifically the original one.
Well, she has his intro, only being on the top of the plane with Tails driving. Makes sense.

Cool analysis. But I think it's not as sinister as you think. Amy is a non canonical character in S3K. It feels like a weird fence-riding moment where they gave all the playable original characters forms in Origins, but still wanted to throw somewhat of a bone to sell players while trying to not be "canon breaking."
And as for the male hedgehogs thing, I think it's the same fence-riding; "We don't want to be compared to Dragon Ball, but let us basically make hedgehogs Saiyans." The male thing feels less sexist and more coincidentally the "main" characters happen to be male so only male hedgehogs transform.
Sega heads are just that unpredictable and strange. I honestly don't think there's malicious intent behind the decisions.
Yeah. People dig too deep

I was gonna comment on that, but yeah.
This bro is a weird guy. Thanks for being the only reasonable commenter.
"The male thing feels less sexist and more coincidentally the "main" characters happen to be male so only male hedgehogs transform."
That would have a lot more ground to stand on if it wasn't for it not being a coincidence that all the main characters are males. they did not just do a coin flip for what gender the important characters would be.
They even had an important female character Blaze who ended up having her lore fall and largely being sidelines to Silver.
reason amy cant use the chaos emeralds to transform; They are gay.
Well even the just male hedgehogs thing was kinda disproven remember knuckles mentions being able to go super in Frontiers
So is knuckles female? Jk
@@Faceu7745 He's also not a Hedgehog XD
The excuse of no more Hyper Sonic is a confusing one. If they were worried about being compared to Dragonball, that’s too late.
Hyper Rouge, with a super flirt that makes all enemies stop attacking so she can sassily walk/fly by.
doesn't she do that already in gens though? XD
Yes. But this could turn enemies into armies!

Bro, it's just a word. imagin' yelling about an adjective
My personal headcanon for super forms:
Super:
Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Shadow, Silver, Blaze (Sol Emeralds)
Pseudo-Super:
Amy, Mighty, Ray, and anyone else added to the classic games.
Hyper:
Sonic, and potentially Shadow.
7:31
“Nonono, it’s there gender identity! If Amy becomes trans, then she become yellow!”
Idk, this was funny in my head.
5:08 No, It’s Super Amy Rosé
They gave her the original Sonic 3 & Knuckles Tails treatment
Why do i always feel like tearing up when i watch your videos? Stop making me so impassioned about Sonic stuff! I can't take!
Imagine if this whole video gets retconned by superstars

August of Amy?! Nice! August is my birthday month!
After watching this video (and your other video on Classic Amy), I can safely say that Sally Acorn fans are probably pissed to no end

Wouldn’t surprise me if it was a mistake/Oversight considering the many issues with Origins.

I do hate how they lock canon super forms to male hedgehogs. It should be for anyone with 7 chaos emeralds and 50 rings
I thought all hedgehogs could go super, but knuckles could use some sort of similar state, while Blaze could go Burning or “Hot Cat”.
Blaze is an alternate universe variant of Sonic, so Burning is her universal equivalent to the Super form. It's the super form for cats.
7:31 You hear that, Gilly? Tails is orange!
Gotta work twice as hard for half as much.
Perfectly said.
Imagine the reaction to this video of the poor programmer who wrote "super" and hyper" offset by one line of code, making the "super" text appearing for "hyper" and nothing to appear for "super".

Ok, so...how exactly would Sonic descend from Shadow? If your first step makes no sense, the theory is a bust.
Wasn't Shadow lab engineered? This theory crumbles in pieces by this sole fact.
