    He did it ! Goosebumps. I grew up watching this man, and waited a whole year to see him come back, stronger than ever. I will cherish this kilometer for the rest of my life.       When I read Peter Sagan's book, which was written in 2018, he wrote that he thinks it's pretty impressive that Cav could still sprint for wins even at his age. That was 6 years ago! It's absolutely crazy that this guy has been consistenly winning stages since 2009!

      @WestCoastWilliam Cav has won the most stages in the TDF, that doesn't mean the greatest stage winner, that infers he won in some monumental break or a stage with unbelievable conditions. To just say he is the greatest infers the greatest ever racing cyclist, or the greatest sprinter, and i've already proved you wrong on that. So argue with that!

    cavendish did the rope a dope on all sprinters..from stage 1 to stage 4 it was the antics losing time, fake cramps,fake dehydration, team around him packing ice on him and pouring water...it was all atrap being set to destroy them all as he conserved energy for the later sprints...Smart very smart

    Amazing Cavendish, it looked so complicated yet he somehow navigated the wheels and made it look easy. i guess that’s why he’s the greatest sprinter who has ever lived.
    I rarely have a good word for Vinokourov but thank you Astana for believing in Cav and not giving up on him like so many others did.

    Is it possible to re-edit this finish so that you can see the overview of Mark Cavendish moving into the pole position at the end of the sprint? It's very frustrating when the camera angle cuts to the peloton zooming past… To show the real skill of Cavendish, we need to see the overhead shotfor the whole sprint and how he manoeuvres between the wheels.
    I hope you have this footage maybe you don't :-)

    Although there is no doubt that he is one of the greatest cyclists, as we all saw, he survived stage 1 just barely and never let me expect a stage win.
    It's such a surprising and touching win.

    Congratulations to Mark Cavendish, it took you 15 the Tour de France, but you finally did it but Eddie Merckx rode the tour only eight times. He won the yellow jersey five times out of the eight and he accomplish 34 stage victories in eight tours, He had no radio or other devices that Cycle is half today so congratulations, but Eddie Merckx is the goat, the greatest cyclist ever

    Mark Cavendish the greatest stage winner in the Tour de France with 35, surpassing Eddy Merckx's 34 (525 stage wins, 11 GV, 19 Monuments, 3 World Championships, etc. by the Cannibal)

      No he has not surpassed EM ... not even close. He is a specialist and can't climb ... at all. Merckx did this while also winning FIVE tours. There is NO comparison between these two riders. There should be 3 records here, 1 for sprinters, one for climbers and for for GC riders with the GC record being the most respected. It is not the same and to suggest otherwise is missing the point.

      @henrivanbemmel It’s not really about what you think though. They count stage wins, and he’s won the most now. It’s a fact. Merckx is, and likely always will be, the greatest rider in history.

      But, I’d like to see the drone till the end. Magnificent. For a sprinter to Survive long enough and CAV had 5 years and 3 years with nothing. It’s the surviving. We all, pretty much recognise Eddie Merkcx was the Best, but a sprinter winning over 16 years of tours. He’s bloody good.
