They calm down, because he hurts them. There is a reason why he puts the collar so high up, it is right behind the ears, there are many lyphnodes and it hurts!
Huh? So he works his magic by putting the dog collar to high up? On every dog? Didn't he take the collar off the rottie and just use a rope? I doubt he purposely hurts them to get them to obey.

We had a 90 pound Rottweiler named Cheyenne, she was the best dog ever. She had bad hips and had to be on medication for the pain but she was still very stiff and sore. One day my son, who was not even a year old at the time, he fell off the bed onto her back and I know it hurt her but she didn’t growl or anything. She was so sweet and gentle, especially with kids. My neighbor fell in love with her, she would go down to their house and hang out with their old dog. I let them take her because I knew they would take good care of her and they were pretty wealthy so I knew they would be able to get her better care than I could at the time. I still got to see her almost every day until she had to be put down because she was in so much pain because of her hips and there really wasn’t anything else they could do. I would love to find another like her.
