I feel you with issues. This past season was brutal on me. New cat, new mafs, starter, high output alternator and other random nonsense lol. As for the coilovers, I'm running the fortune auto 500 with swift springs. They're amazing.

I can relate, my r33 is giving me the issues right now too with RPM's. It feels like the RPM's surge and fall off at midrange. It feels like a misfire so I'm waiting on coils ordered from aus. Pretty much every part on this car takes a while to get from overseas. Hopefully once you sort out the issues it should be good. I just ran into the hicas issue recently where the car was all over the place, ended up deleting it and it felt much better. I'd like to replace most of the hoses too, the old hoses are so hard to work on with.

as a fellow gtr owner I get it, these cars arent for the faint of heart. I suggest a good budget coil over like BC racing. also, you have to keep in mind how old these cars are. Modernizing it has been my priority like deleting mafs (going speed density), standalone ECU and coil on plug like you've done already. Not only that, but you understand the spaghetti vacuum line situation with twins. It's a pain in the ass but needs to be kept up on! Hopefully you'll have time to go over all of it someday.

Its a 30+ year old turbocharged performance car which will have been fiddled with so its not going to be reliable unless someone else has just replaced all the aging parts on it before you buy it.
I bought a cheap R32 GT-R in 2007 when they were at rock bottom price (not in the US) and it was 16 years old at that point and in my ignorance I didn't do a compression test (always do a compression test before buying one of these). and the original ceramic turbos had previously failed and damaged the bores of the original RB26. It wasn't immeduately obvious driving it so I only picked it up later when I was troubleshooting a hot start issue. Long story short - massive overall rebuild and de-rust over a 13 year periiod by myself and brother-in-law (money was always an issue) and since completion its been pretty reliable. I learnt along the way that dump valves are an air leak waiting to happen. MAP is more reliable than MAFs. Engine bay wiring is crispy even at 16 years old let alone 30 years old so replace it when the engines out - I unfortunately didn't and occasionlly get a misfire which I believe is a loom issue due to a connection near the ECU. Most R32s seem to have had a piggy back fuel controller, turbo timer, boost controller fitted (badly) in the 90s/2000s and you will generally find botched wiring down near the ECU in the car. Things like coilovers - never really going to last a long tine unless you get rebuildable ones in the first place. I bought Tein Monoflexes because they were about the cheapest rebuildable coilover I could get at the time.
The cars aren't for everyone. Parts might seem expensive but compare them to modern top end performance BMWs and Audis and those are also an absolute nightmare to work on compared to the very simple R32. Oh, replaced the light switch to about 5 years ago. While you're at it modify the wiring to the lights and use relays with direct connectiins to the battery and it will take the load of that switch and you won't need HIDs if you use Phillips/Osram brighter bulbs. I've found HIDs don't seem to work very well with the beam patterns in either the GT-R projector lights or the GTS-T/N1 lights. Headlight wiring modification and brighter halogens give a better spread of light on the road than HIDs with standard wiring in my experience and its more in keeping with the look of the car Also the non-projector lights are 1kg lighter a side and produce better light.

My r32 GTR has been daily for three years, and I’ve been lucky to not have any major issues. I’ve been chasing a misfire on idle for a while now, and I’m thinking it’s the BOVs, but I’m not sure. I have changed everything else it could possibly be. For coilovers, if you want a street-able car, stay away from HKS. They’re still stiff on the lowest setting (I know it’s a race car and they’re supposed to be stiff, but not THAT stiff ). TEIN is a pretty solid option. Good for street and track, and it doesn’t break the bank. If money isn’t an issue, then OHLINS is the best option all around.

Do you have aftermarket bovs? If you do try putting them on tight setting. I will look into the tein coilovers 👍

    Buy HKS coilovers
My R32 GTR was out of order due of bad coil packs and fuel injectors, I’ve finally replaced em, after that the car is back in action

i tell ppl all the time, it's not a 'nice' car.. it's really a cheap, parts bin plastic interior and overall made with very THIN METAL.. it feels cheap! it's absolutely TINY inside too (i have a 4dr sedan).
it's iconic and somewhat legendary, because it had technology way before its time and it has the racing pedigree to back it up.
i lose traction in 3rd gear and the driving experience is bananas because it's as scary as it is exciting at times.. if you have a built car, you forget about its downfalls.
it's also an investment, as sooner or later, they'll stop the 25yr rule with the implementation of electric cars in the frontier.. they'll stop allowing these smoggy gray market cars to enter the US.
and THAT is when these will soar.
