    Dave Rat is so real!!!. I love it!. Even though I have many years in the biz and a degree in electronics, my soldering skills suck!. It's great to see someone who's good at it makes it look easy and likes doing it work!. Rock on Dave! 😎

    Clean and slick. This is one of those areas we don't deal with frequently, so it's nice to have a canned solution at hand. Thanks, Dave.

    A male etherCON connector with the stripes and solids hooked together could also be a slick solution to this. Just plug this bridging adapter into the opposite etherCON port and now all 4 XLR connectors are bridged together

    Hi Dave, brilliant content as usual, if I could offer a small piece of feed back! When your are doing Picture in Picture for your demos it would be better to have the camera shot of what you are doing as the full screen picture so the audience can see better!

    • @DaveRat
      @DaveRat  3 года назад +2

      Ok, cool, yes, I edit on large monitor and makes sense to switch to full screen rather than picture in picture when possible

    Dave, I have two press boxes picked up at auction. If you need press feeds often, I could send you one for shipping cost. They are Horizon PB-8 isolated press boxes. These are passive with isolation transformers to block phantom power, isolate single ended loads, and ground issues.

    • @DaveRat
      @DaveRat  2 года назад +2

      Awesome and thank you. We actually have 4 to 8 stages of gear or tours out on any given day. Most don't need press boxes but some do. We have a dedicated analog splitter drop we use. I shared this to show a cool way to make a cable allowing people with SoundTools catboxes to easily make a press box when needed.

    • @DaveRat
      @DaveRat  3 года назад +3

      It's on the list of products to make. The catbox 8 with 4 female and 4 male XLRs is coming next. The transformer version will be based on the catbox 8 enclosure

    this really makes me annoyed but i haven't been able to posted anything with my setup.
    i'm glad that it's fairly standard as i have integrated with studio hub+ stuff. i come off my mix box with one 4ch cable and then split that so i have 2ch at each mic stand. perfect for a vocal and instrument mic or DI.

    I wouldn’t use this for an actual press box but it would be a great way to send line level audio out from a production truck or in a
    a large hall over a long distance to where you could tap off it to actual mult boxes or maybe two sends for mult boxes and two mic returns for Q&A from a couple of strategically placed mics so you wouldn’t have to rely on a wireless

    • @DaveRat
      @DaveRat  2 года назад +1

      Having disconnect able 4 channel snakes and daisy chain able stage boxes and each units based on readily available shielded cat 5 can come in quite useful for numerous applications.
      I have done several vids on things like crosstalk, phantom and comparing to AES3 and mic cable

    • @dpinskey
      @dpinskey 2 года назад +1

      @@DaveRat We started using the Professional Sound Corporation (PSC) Press Train passive mult box which has a line in/line out feature which makes daisy chaining very easy. I think I metered it at only a 2.5 dB loss at the next box. BUT if I were to incorporate what you've got going there, I could set up four units with no loss of signal at all!

    Love the channel, just joined the premium side, such a treasure trove... thats Dave. Random aside... Maybe you can address this in a future video topic.. I recently got ahold of a BBE 882i Sonic Maximizer that I added into my bass guitar ring via the effects loop ... I have to say I LOVE the sound, seem fuller and more defined to my ear... I don't want to play with it off anymore.. that said, how does this work for live performances or is this more for listening in a home/studio setting and useless live sound?

    • @DaveRat
      @DaveRat  3 года назад +2

      Hmmmm, if I come across one I will give it a test and listen and see what they do. A while back BBE the sonic maximizer and aphex aural Exciter gained some traction and and popularity.
      As far as live, typically when something complex is applied to the full mix it tends to create as many issues.
      That said, adding a maximizer or Exciter, expander or other effect to an instrument or or for certain songs can be very useful.
      And welcome SJ!

    Hi Dave, thanks for this video!! I was wondering would this be possible with the 12 channel box with the throughs going to each input?

    • @DaveRat
      @DaveRat  2 года назад +1

      A 12 out press feed driven off one console output? If so, es, that wouldnwork, make the custom cable, drive one ethercon and use two shielded ethercon or shielded RJ45 jumpers to link the other two 4 channel sets.

  • @tejanotv
    @tejanotv 5 месяцев назад +1

    Can you use 4 mics parallel on the box going out, and the ethercom to xlr cable going in to a mixer board? For instance, If I have 2 channel board, can I use these 4 channels to go into 1 channel in that board?

    • @DaveRat
      @DaveRat  5 месяцев назад +1

      Hmmm, yes but you would need to make an ethercon to XLR adapter. I've never seen anyone Y 4 mics together, sometimes two mics Y'ed together when they're on the same instrument and you run out of channels is done.
      It would work but you wouldn't have control over the separate mics.
      If you know how to solder it wouldn't be that hard to make the adapter.
      Just cut one end off of a shielded ethercon cable and connect all the striped wires to pin 3 and all the solid color wires to pin 2 and the shield to pin one of the XLR
