Sad to hear it but I think we’ve all felt the struggle this season with warmer temperatures! Really hoping for a swing back the other way for next season 🤞

I love riding in the snow but so I’m always walking around kicking a can down the streets from being so bummed….
I’m with you - hoping the weather will swings back.

I bought a fatbike 7 years ago to ride in the snow. Living at 7000' in the Sierra Nevada, there's typically plenty of snow in the winter. But I've found that riding in the deserts is far more fun than the snow. With the high desert just a half hour drive and 3000' away, I opt for desert riding far more often than snow.

For me, fat bike riding is a year-round activity. Snow is great, but a lack of it won't stop me from riding. It's been a brown winter here in Edmonton, Canada, but I still love riding when I can.

I live about 10 miles from Ray's. Great place. It has been the same in Cleveland. One day of snow the season. I think it might be my fault. Back in November I purchased a heavy duty snow blower. I have a rich history of buying things I need and then the need changes.

Thats awesome that you live so close to Ray’s.
      lol on snow blower :)
I thought things like only happen to me…
Next time I head to Ray’s I’ll post it.
Let’s pretend there is snow at Ray’s I’ll wear snow boots and you can bring your snow blower to clear all the snow :)

The last two winters have been a dud, but who knows what next year will bring. Still can look back to 2022 when it was fantastic and dream of better winters to come.

What you say it does not make any sense. No fatbiking because no snow? Well, then there is .....regular biking on dirt. Who wants to endure the he'll of ziftwhatever, or ridiculesness of indoor?!!? park when one can ride outside no problem...

As noted in video most of my fat biking on dirt trails l.
I’m noting I’m pulling the plug on snow fat biking. My thought behind that is why should I invest in snow gear if no snow.
Most MTB trails are closed when muddy and wet. I just outlined my options to still ride at those times.
      I hope this helps

Sorry to hear it buddy... I have a first class luxury ticket to get to live in northern side Europe, so we get shit loads of snow every winter. That my friend, makes fatbiking senseible and makes it tons of fun... that is why I bought it first place and that is why I keep on pushing on every single day. It is just that much fun plus it is a therapy. And of course, there is a day, one feels that it's enough. But after a day or 2 off, it keeps on pulling back and makes it fun again. So... always rollin' 💪🤘

You’re spot on with it being therapeutic.

I second that. We have a mountain lodge in PA but we tend to avoid midwinter so I ride the fat bike the same MTB season as the XC bike. It’s a delightfully different riding experience. 😊👍🏻

very kind!@@fatride (all in good fun as long as we ride it's a great thing, but here's a rant) i just don't understand why anyone would give up the acceleration and grip a full suspension mountain bike with conventional tyres can give for the dubious claim of more grip on a fat tyre mountain bike? larger contact patch under the same loading shouldn't be a benefit, and the slower accelerating and heavy wheels would be a clear draw-back. in muddy terrain the clearances are no better, although probably not worse either, but i shudder to think what can be done if it ever gets packed with mud. meanwhile in now-considered-skinny mountain bike tyre world, say 2.1 inch, there's loads of room and e.g. the maxxis highroller gives such immense amount of traction you can easily rip the soil up under braking. so there's my question to fat tyre riders: what gives?

@@markifi great thought and question. Once I get home I’ll respond the best I can.

      For me
MTB and racing was getting so fast. Not to mention how expensive MTB was getting.
      I had a serious accident
Once I was at a point I could ride again I needed something that was more stable and slower. The fat bike was perfect.
Once I was totally recovered and ready to jump back into MTB I was having to much fun with fat biking I completely switched to fat biking.
There are technical reasons I can give you but for me I just was having too much fun.

@@markifiWhile nobody claims that fat bikes have more friction (as you say, it's basic physics), they do have more traction. Because the tire is so big, it deforms around obstacles like roots, so instead of relying of the coefficient of friction (which may be low) your grip comes from the traction of the tire's shape locking around objects on the ground. Similarly, by spreading the forces across a larger contact patch, fat bikes can achieve higher traction in much softer surfaces than smaller tires can.
Mountain bikes have fatter tires than road bikes for the exact same reasons fat tires are fatter than mountain bike tires. While mountain bikes are optimized around the friction and "softness" of packed dirt, fat bikes are optimized around ultra-low friction and loose surfaces like deep sand and packed snow. Furthermore, they are the only way of carrying heavy loads through softer surfaces. Serious backcountry bikepackers ride fat bikes because they achieve traction over a wider range of surfaces and loads, in places where mountain bike tires break away from the dirt at much lower torques.
Beyond that, riding a fat bike can be an aesthetic choice, like fixies. It's obvious they are slower than mountain bikes on trails designed for mountain bikes. Some people, like FatRide, just like the way they ride, because there is a distinct quality to them that's fun. They have a floaty feeling, they hold their line very confidently, and inspire you to let it rip through low-traction zones. Plus, they look pretty cool, at least to me they do!
