I always find these farrier videos very interesting and informative. My horse had to go into these versa nail on shoes, but each time he gets them done he’s sore and can barely walk. Not really sure what’s going on and then he’s fine in a week..
Your hoof prep and glue application is really stellar! I think this mare could benefit from bringing the toe back more, setting the shoe slightly back more and maybe a plug and some DIM. I have a mare with some of the same issues; negative palmar angle and crushed heels. I have been putting Octos on her with a plug and some DIM under the back part of the foot and she is really comfortable and improving. I like the way you work!
Do you not like the weld on tabs? Feel like they would make a better fit because you can shape it to the hoof then weld on the tabs. Can also heat the shoe and manipulate it for a snugger fit.
Thank you for the feedback. I'm okay with the welded tabs, but in this situation, I prefer the sides that are already attached. The hind pattern shoe almost matches perfectly, and the acrylic fills the remaining space nicely. I appreciate your suggestion of heating up the shoe to adjust for a tighter fit. I've played around with this idea a bit, but I might spend more time exploring it further.
I love how you repeat "good girl," again and again. Soothing for the horse.
