I'm a putty guy myself. But putty actually degrades plastic. It even says it on the tub. And most faucets will have a tiny note attached saying to use silicone on the tailpiece, if it's plastic.
you can use stain free plumbers putty on stone and acrylic. it comes in the same plastic container and is sold everywhere the oil based stuff is sold. it's called stain free or oil free and that's the stuff you want for all your natural stone and plastic/acrylic sink tub and shower basins.
Silicone = half a**ed fix only use that if u have a crack in the porcelain in a shower drain putty u use everywhere dude never seen it my whole life degrade plastic once. Ever after touching 50 yr old + fixtures. And exactly they make stuff that doesn't stain for other types of applications
Next time you walk by it in store I would grab it, I bought one and it changed my experience when doing faucets.....there's even a spot for turning those oval shut off handles instead of crushing them with channel locks

It’s a good time to replace the water shut off valves if they are as old as the faucet. I upgraded to a 1/4 turn vs multi turn because they don’t use gaskets.
Wow plumber who knows what he’s doing , I would recommend tho always upgrade those angle stops to 1/4 turns those gaskets from those multi turns were already deteriorating based on that black water that came out
except you don't put puddy or pipe dope on that pop up assembly and tail piece. in fact, there are holes above the rubber gasket. pause the video and look. No puddy and no pipe dope on these
The putty and dope used in this were not needed. Those pop up assemblies rely on the rubber washer on the bottom for sealing purposes. Because of the overflow on a lav sink the pop ups have openings under the top ring to allow water that has entered the overflow to drain. Basically all you have done is shorten the life of that new pop up and made it more difficult for the next guy. Good work doc.
Wasn't necessary to replace the whole faucet. When a faucet drips like that when handles are turned off, all it needs is a new cartridge. Very easy to replace and less expensive.
Quick question. Where can I get a faucet fixture for an older walk-in tub? The valve stems are 7 inches apart. It's an outlaw size and I've been to every hardware store, big and small, and every plumbing supply in my area and they have NOTHING that fits. The only one I saw awhile ago was on eBay but none since. Missed that one. I believe this type of fixture is called a "deck mount" type. Can't even tell you what brand tub it is as there are no identifying markings on it. Any suggestions?
You'd cry if you saw the plumbing at my student house haha, the sink doesn't line up with the pipe in the wall and there's no connector- just pushed together and pray lol
It’s not a tailpiece. That’s a pop up assembly. The tailpiece is the part on a brass pop up assembly (one not bought at Home Depot) that screws into the pop up assembly
You don't put plumbers putty and pipe dope on this faucet. In fact, there are holes on the side of the tail piece above the rubber gasket. You're making a mess for the next guy and doing it wrong. Respectful critique.
What's really crazy is the 2 cent o ring that's responsible for that leak is a super easy fix just need alan keys and a small pick normally and then u don't have to do anything extra kit turn water off first
plumber here, its because of the gaskets used in the old inferior style shut off valves. tell me you dont know anything about plumbing without telling me you down know anything about plumbing.
Oh nice! Shutoffs right under the sink. Yes people you can pay your plumber to install such things since it is unlikely they are there as original equipment.
If the shut off valves are failed, which you don't know until after you disconnect the water lines, what's your immediate course of action? You can't reconnect the water lines- my guess if you'd shutoff the house then replace the valve, turn the house back on to check for success, then proceed?
Bro you kill the valves and turn on the sink and make sure no more water comes out and let the pressure off before you disconnect anything. Then if it the old style valves(not 1/4 turn) you can usually loosen the packing and and that will let you turn the valve some more. If they are quarter turn and say someone turned them the wrong way then maybe you can find a sweet spot. But if not kill the house and change them out 😢
The maintenance (🙄) man at my apt changed out my bathroom faucet. But I told him there was a hole in faucet behind it and it was leaking all over the sides. So, he's tells me it is supposed to do that. I said no. I suggested to caulk around the sink. So dig this... He gets the caulking gun puts some on his finger and smears it ALL over the faucet. I took pictures of it and sent it to the manager. And ask if this was professional? Anyway they went out and bought me a new one like the one you have. My question is before he put the faucet on was he supposed to put some kind of rubber seal on the sink and then put the faucet on top.? Because water is still accumulating around the sides I'm sorry this is long but this guy acts like he hates his job, calls mold dirt, and told me that the reason why there was black(mold) around the air vents was because the " inside of the AC was black. The filter was black 😂😂😂😂 anyway I hate to be a Karen but now he's telling me that the black stuff that's on the AC vents is dirt🙄I'm sending more pictures and to manager. I guess he thinks I'm just some dumb hick 🌷🇨🇱🇺🇲 well... I'm not! Thanks
Small tip:. Use a 2 gallon bucket under the sink and connect the supply lines and flush them prior to connecting. Especially with today's seemingly standard 3/8" lines, the smallest debris can cause an instant issue🙂 Great vid👍
I just replaced a bathroom faucet and actually *followed the instructions* by flushing the pipes prior to hooking it up. There was a ton of crap that came out of the hot water side. Great tip, brother!
You made this look easy. Why did you also change the tail pipe? Was it necessary? Or was that just a personal decision? I'm planning on changing my faucet but I don't want to change anything else unless it's necessary.
Most new faucets come with a tailpiece to match! If your tailpiece is in good shape and matches the color of your faucet, you can decide to leave it in if you want.

100% silicon is 100% the way to go. Putty is super old school lol
Yeah I’m gonna have to make the switch to silicone. I learned from old school plumbers, never had issues with putty, but will make the change.
