In this video I show you how you can change your bathroom sink faucet. It is actually quite easy to install a new bathroom sink faucet. It is definitely one of those tasks that are a lot easier than they look!
To replace your bathroom sink faucet you just need to disconnect the water lines, remove the old faucet, assemble the new faucet, install the new faucet, and reconnect the water lines!
It also requires very few tools and materials. The only special thing you will need is some teflon tape. Everything else should come in your faucet kit.
I was surprised at how easy it was to install a one-hole faucet in a 3 hole sink. It is just a matter of covering the 2 extra holes with a baseplate.
Overall, replacing your bathroom faucet is a great way to upgrade your bathroom! Having a more modern and stylish faucet really transforms to look and feel of your sink!
The only video I could find that showed the older faucet and how to remove it! Thank Gawd you didn't edit that part out! Thanks bro!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🏆Thank you SO MUCH for this!!!! I wasn’t sure how cumbersome a conversion from a 4” center set to a single hole would be.
Greatly appreciated 👏🏻👏🏻😊!!
This is so much better than the home depot version, they always make everything look so easy.
Finally someone with faucets like mine. I had no idea how to get them off. I didn't know the base of each handle turned because mine seemed locked in place,
I’ve been procrastinating changing my faucet, but I feel more confident now. Goodbye nasty old one, hello, lovely!
Great tip at the end with the water pressure
Thank you so much, the tip about the clips in the old handles and the Allen wrench in the drain stopper hole saved my project. I almost had to call a pro. Thanks again.
Heck yeah man! Comments like these are why I love to share! It's impossible to find disassemble instructions. Glad I saved you time and money!
Awesome! Thanks for such a great video. Now I'm confident I can replace my old faucets for something more modern! 🥰
Most excellent video, I really wanted to replace my 3 hole with a single for a modern look. Wasn’t sure that was possible but you made it quite clear, really appreciate your time.
Thank you , You were clear and the visuals really helped out a lot. Great Job !
Glad it helped! That was my goal!
You are really good at teaching, not everyone is. Thank you!!!
Wow. That helped so much! I didnt think it was so straight forward, I think I can tackle it now. Thank you!
I've found from experience that it can really help to add some Plumber's Putty under the base plate. When I didn't do this any splashes of water around the base plate would end up leaking under the sink. Plumber's Putty is real low tech stuff that works wonders at preventing leaks.
great video, one thing that wasn't clear to me but i figured it out. when you chisel, hold the chisel vertically so the sharp blade cuts towards the rings and cuts through that brass lock towards the threaded pipe. you aren't trying to pop it off or separate it from the sink you are trying to cut through it. once you cut through the brass lock thing and hit the threads i used a needle nose pliers to separate the cut and it unlocked the threaded pipe and it dropped to the floor inside the cabinet. prior to that i was struggling so hard under the sink to unscrew stuff. all the work is on the top of the sink.
This is such a clear explanation of how to do this!!! Thank you!!
Thank you for the video. This was so easy to follow and I was able to change my faucet. Although it took me a while because I couldn't close the water fron under the sink. It was too tight so eventually I shut off the main water line and I was able to do it that way.
2nd time watching this much later. I've heard there is a right direction and wrong direction to wrap the teflon tape on, and I always forget what the correct way is. I would like to have seen you replace the drain plug as well. Nice looking faucet. Good video.
Thank you! I have another video replacing the drain plug ruclips.net/video/GczQ23CgYLc/видео.html
Wow! I'm going to pass on this project, too hard for me. But I love the idea. And absolutely love your videos. They are so artistic. Can't wait for the next renovation
Thank you!
best vid about this...you're such a great "host" ...thank you
Thanks for putting this instructional video together.
Awesome video very detailed thank you so much truck driver from Southern California…🚛🚛
Very helpful! Can you post the link or name of the faucet you installed? That exactly what I’m looking for.
Thank YOU for your inspiration, I managed to do it myself too :P
Through online googling, it says if supply lines have some form of rubber gasket, which yours does have, then you shouldn't use the teflon tape.
Excellent instructions. Thank you
Thank you for being so thorough. 🙏🏼
Besides putting on you’re Teflon tape against the grain, you did a good job. 👍🏻 nice,
actually those water lines have the rubber seal you are not even supposed to use teflon tape with them
@@davi1how do you know if they have rubber seal? Do most newer ones have them?
If u have to use tape, how do you apply it?
Thank u in advance. :)
thanks very easy to follow your tutorial
Yes rubbing alcohol is the best!! To prep before many projects!! Thanks for the tips. I’ve watched many videos. This shows more steps!
Hey bro, good job on this video. You were clear and the visuals really helped out a lot.
Thank you, it means a lot! I try my best to help out
Great video! Thanks for making this👍
Hey what about the drain stopper?
This was super helpful!
THANKYOU. I'm not a Handy Women (but am fine helper :) ) and wanted to make sure this was as easy as I'd hoped before asking Handy Hubby to do (so I could make sure I wasn't going to be told it was too troublesome to ask to be done :) )
Cutting teflon with a pair of scissors? You boy is next level!
Hahaha, do most people find this difficult?
@@Ettore Speaking from a sophistication point of view hahah because I personally just stretch it until it tears, same goes for electric tape too haha
Great Video. Thank you!
WOW! You made that look easy. I'm inspired. Going to replace my faucet. Thank you
I believe in you!
Great video
Do you have a link to the specific faucet you installed? I really like it but can't find it. Thanks!
Just added a link to the description because of this comment! It's around $42, one year later it's still working great!
Chisel? Those are C clips.
My faucet was in far worse condition.
Unscrewing the handle bodies from the bases was difficult, but those clips came off with pliers.
Where did you place the hex key/Allen wrench?
This helped me so much! Thank you for being so clear!
What happens to the drain plug??
Some faucets come with a new pop-up assembly.
If this faucet has no hole for the pop-up rod (that's not good), you'd need to change the drain yourself.
My faucet smells like copper after Changing the faucets any suggestions?
Update on the faucet two years later? Any jamming or paint chipping?
faucet is still going solid! I will say that the only downside is that toothpaste residue is very visible in matte black
does it create a tight enough seal or do you need to silicon seal the faucet to the sink?
I got the tail pipe gasket upside down so I had to redo that but other than that, I did it in one go 😂 thank you!
Thank you! I'm over sixty and plan on changing out my facet!
Thank you for the video. Big help!!!
You should always apply the Teflon tape in the same direction as the rotation to tighten. But a good video thanks for posting!
Most new faucets don't recommend using Teflon tape anymore. Be sure to check your installation guide to make sure. 👍
Great tutorial--thanks!
Did you order that black piece to secure the faucet to the sink? literally bought the same one and it did not come with that, also mine is leaking at the faucet from the water lines I definitely forgot to tighten the top base of the water lines so ill double check but would do you recommend i do anything else?
The base plate to cover the holes? Mine came with it. This was a couple of years ago, so maybe they don't include it any more?
If it is leaking there is definitely something wrong, sorry for your experience :(
Thank you for this!!!
Thanks for the video. Well done!!!
My new faucet is a little too large to fit through the center hole on the sink, so now WTF can I do? I have lots of experience with maintenance and handyman work but I am reluctant to try and drill out the hole.
does your new faucet not have a drain plug? meaning that it'll always drain?
You can buy them with or without a matching drain plug. My guess is that he just chose not to change the drain plug. I’ve been looking for a video that includes that step because it would drive me nuts to have a black or bronze faucet and a chrome drain plug.
Thanks for the instruction. I’m going to give it a try.
Chisel? Lol ok worth a shot. Looking at something similar.
Beautiful
Awesome job 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Really enjoyed the video! I do have a question, do you own this property? If so, I would suggest replacing the J bend and tailpiece. Also, I would change the multi turn shut off valves to quarter turn shut off valves. The reason the black water came out is actually of the black seal in the multi turn shut off valve is deteriorating and when the water is shut off and turned again that will happen.
Thank you!
I do own the property, what is the advantage of replacing the j bend and tailpiece?
My previous faucet wasn't producing black water and it has never done that since. I'm pretty sure it is residue from the factory.
@@Ettore the J bend and tailpiece you have now are made of aluminum. Over time as water sits and passes through the J bend and tailpiece, it will skillet corrode the aluminum and become brittle and thin.
Not super alarming right now to change it, but it’s good preventive maintenance to change them to a plastic J bend and tail piece with new seals.
@@Ettore it’s possible it was from the faucet. But I do know the packing/seal in a multi turn shut off valve is black. When you turn the valve off, it tightens and closes the packing. When the packing is older it usually leaves a black residue once the water is turned back on you can see it come out.
You can always test this by turning the water off with the multi turn valves underneath that bathroom sink. Have it off for about 5-10 minutes or so, and turn them back on slowly. Once back on run the water out of the faucet. If you see any black in it, it’s from the packing in the shut off valves.
Got a thumb up just for the jump entrance at start of video
Very good tutorial. 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.
Wow very interesting love ur diy 😍
Do you think this is renter friendly? Would I be able to change it back if needed?
Shouldn't have an issue installing old one. If you ask your landlord, he might let you leave it or even pay for it
What about the drain plug? How did you tie the bar?
the drain plug that came with the set was a pop up one, so it doesn't use the bar. I just recorded a video on how to install it, will edit and upload soon :)
it is the removal of 20 yr old-school faucets that is the tough part. installation of newer faucets are easy peasy.
Link to faucet please
Can you post specs regarding
the 360 camera you have plz
Curious, did you install a new drain plug as well?
Yes but not in this video. Not all faucet kids come with plugs, so I decided not to include
Excellent
I might try this, great tip! thanks
No problem! Good Luck!
How do you open the mirror?
Sorry, but you did not say how to reinstall the sink drain mechanism. What up? How do you reconnect it?
What is the brand of faucet?
I have the same faucet and THANK YOU for posting this! I'm still struggling to even get to the clips. I'm missing a step and stuck with the bottom chrome ring still on, I don't see you remove that in this video and mine will not budge. I unscrewed the cap like you did, but there is still a small chrome ring before I get to the clip you had to chisel off. Any tips?
Regarding the chrome ring, are you talking about the new faucet or the old faucet?
Specifically, at 3:36 the right post still has chrome ring on bottom, but the next time we see it at 4:27 it is gone. Did yours just pull off?
@@jdmullin1234 i see. Mine came off pretty easily if I remember correctly. Yours might be a little stuck to the sink. Do you have a chisel? Giving it a little tap could get it unstuck. Or maybe grippy gloves
After watching some other videos on this terrible faucet design, and realizing mine was rusted/seized together, I took a dremel and cutting wheel to mine, being careful not to hit the sink itself. One cut on each side of the circle, then drove a screwdriver in to finish and split them apart. Took about 2 minutes once I resorted to this method. :)
Would you recommend this faucet? Is the paint peeling or any jamming?
Do you need to be concerned with water leaking under the face plate and going down the two side holes that aren't being used now?
Mine doesn't leak, is yours leaking? If so, you should fix that asap.
@@Ettore No, I haven't replaced my faucet yet. I've been pondering this, wondering. I want to get all my ducks in a row before attempting it. Do you caulk around the face plate?
@@alive-awake I didn't, but it might depend on what faucet you're using. Mine had like a foam gasket thing that helps seal the crack. There isn't a lot of water that gets splashed towards the holes, so I wouldn't worry about anything leaking through the holes
@@Ettore Mine has a foam gasket as well. I guess I won't worry. Thanks!
Great video man, thanks! Just subbed!
Thank you
What about the drain plug. It’s just gonna stay open and be a pain to open if it closes
I recently made another video about replacing the drain! My faucet kit came with a pop up drain, so it doesn't have to be connected to the faucet
How’s the Amazon faucet holding up??
Still going great!
Thanks man!
Very good video....
How do you connect the drain plug lever?
mine was just a little bolt that you unscrew and then had to squeeze the part holding it in
Thank you!!!
How about the plunger?
Just made a video about it here! ruclips.net/video/GczQ23CgYLc/видео.html
So your going to leave the drain plug rod just hanging there? I don't see where it can be connected to the new faucet.
New faucet came with a pop up drain, so it doesn't use the plug rod. This video is for replacing faucet, not drain, so I just showed the faucet part.
@@Ettore Oh ok, got it. Good video!
@@psra8er512 thanks! Maybe I should make a separate tutorial for the drain
Wow great video the people who gives this video the thumbs down 👎 should go to hell🙄🙄🙄
Thx for a great video. I will do mine soon :-)
ty!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude, great video I have the same exact sink but I CANNOT get the bottom rings off wtf is the secret?!?!?!
Never mind, I just kept watching your video over and over and studied your technique a little closer each time and figured it out. You’re the man!
@@jeremylindsay6406 that's awesome! Glad you were able to follow my technique! I have 2 identical bathrooms, so I struggled a whole bunch with the first one just like you. Glad I could help!!
Main purpose of cleaning the sink before installing new faucet is you’re supposed to add silicone or other approved sealant to adhere new faucet’s base plate to sink free of dirt or grease. Yes you have a nut and washer holding faucet in place but that won’t prevent faucet moving out of place over time just FYI. Not trying to be another RUclips hater I just love learning how other people work
Tienes videos en español?
Get you a basin wrench bro. You’ll thank me later 🔧
Always use Teflon tape unless the manufacturer says not to. But good video.
Good video. But that high gooseneck with a small bathroom sink just doesn’t make sense. Will also increase the splashing.
I wanted something high so I could easily refill my waterbottle. You're right about the splashing, I had to reduce my water pressure to counteract
Nice video, but you don't need tape on those water lines, they have a rubber gasket. That said, you put the tape on backwards, it should go on the same direction that you have to tighten the nut down.
you are 100% correct. I have 2 bathrooms and I did it correctly on the second one :D
What about the drain?
Oh man, I need more help at around 4:15. 😢 chiselling doesn't seem like the best procedure
💙💙💙
You only use tape if there isn’t a rubber gasket in the connection.
