Hey LSV the bow is for a few things one it helps gain more life, two the shuffle eff is actually relevant to stave off delve and snapcasters, finally you can put counters on their guys to make them too large to attack thru bridge! hope this helps!
Eijoyujo 615 How does the bow stop delve? You can only target things in your grave yard. I'm guessing that what it is there for is to avoid decking yourself with self mill
Sorry miscommunication lol but I am surprised you didn't call me on my even bigger blunder that it can stop snapcasters however I think my other points were on point I just assumed that the last mode for graveyard manipulation was simetrical as the other modes lol my bad.
Josue Rodriguez actually the only relevant use i tap counter on your noble hierarch tap put a counter on your birds if you watch the dudes who's list this is talked in an interview life is pointless he has the full for sun droplets and pain lands and the only time you use it for shuffle is if they blew up both academy ruins
Justin Davis What inteview? ther GP deck tech? In it Zac explains that the life gain ability straight up negates bolt effects so you can let the opponent draw burn spells in the burn matchup. The +1 counter is also good against 0/x creatures yes. The other 2 abilities well you don't care about flyers with a Bridge on board and the other one is rather irrelevant as we want fill our graveyard with cards to recur. Are you refering to another interview?
Thanks for playing that deck -- it sure proves you can play anything :) .. Loved some of your comments, especially the one that proved you were baffle by some of the reason's for the Bow .... Please keep up the totally non tier 1 deck plays, so much better for people to gain an understanding of the varieties that are out there... Thanks again.....
Absurd! Thank you for showing this deck, I had never seen it before. Now next modern event at my FNM will not make me any new friends but I will have a blast - that is for sure!
I'm surprised you never went for the pyrite spellbomb + academy ruins kill (especially in game 1), which is slow but often times faster than the mill plan.
In game 1 I would have aggressively mill and extract away lingering souls but that ensnaring bridge top draw saved your life so it didn't made that much of a difference. This deck looks very very fun though. If it raises too much they can ban the lantern.
There was an opurtunity, at the end of turn 4, where you could have milled your own bridge, then ruins'd it at the end step, then you could cast on turn 5, rather than having him do iton your upkeep
I remember running into this deck on Cockatrice while playtesting something or other janky, even back then against an older iteration it was an absolute snoozefest. Easily one of the most nauseating decks to lose to as you might as well just not bother playing. Certainly reminiscent of eggs (although not sure it's that bad) but as long as the pilot has fun I guess all is well.
Bow of Nylea is to pump your opponent's 0 power creatures so they can't attack. Ornithopter, Noble Heirarch, and Birds of Paradise come to mind, not sure what else there is that is 0 power and a possible threat from pumps.
rsh0561 I am really getting sick of the fact that any time a deck looks even remotely decent and ISN'T "hurr curve out on dudes, swing, and occasionally play some removal(and call it control for some awful reason)" people immediately start discussing the need to ban it because it commits the sin of being more complex than racing to 20 damage.
+Amutsal glad I'm not the only person that feels this way. don't get me wrong, on occasion turning dudes sideways is fun, but pure control like this is way cooler.
Andrew Ottoson Yes most lists do run a split of Bells & Pyxis for Emrakul, Grudge and whatnot. But no, we don't play Pyxis to play Emrakul at a discount. With Bridge on board Emrakul is useless. We run Pyxis to exile the opponent's Emrakuls lol.
Eijoyujo 615 The thing is that to make counterbalance work here you need to establish the lock first and at that point you can simply keep them off good draws. There is no reason to let them draw good cards just for the fun of countering them with Counterbalance.
Josue Rodriguez I understand how it works in this deck 100% Tristan was thinking counterbalance wasn't legal in Modern (I am assuming since he said specifically legacy and this is a modern deck) and i was letting him know that it is legal in Modern just doesnt see any play due to the banning of Sensei's Divining top. Also I want to clarify I am not trying to sound rude its just replying on the web comments can be taken out of context (Not saying you were/would just clarifying). But to reply to your point I dont think it would be very good in this deck due to the color intensity and due to its a complete brick if you dont have the hard lock already in place which at that point makes it redundant along with not very great top of the deck manipulation that Top could provide but it would be a fun/trolly thing to do to someone in a not hyper competitive environment!!!
Chet Irons Memory's journey could help, too. Lammastide weave could really help if you had trouble either getting an ensnarring bridge or getting your hand down to 0.
Thats exactly what we thought two and half years ago when we started working on the list. Trinket Mage was the first thing we added, it ended up not being that good as the deck evolved due to the 3cmc issue. Thats too much in modern, we would often be dead by the time we could cast it and even if we did cast it it was too little too late. This is not a silver bullet toolbox. Ancient Stirrings, Faithless Looting, Infernal Tutor and the natural digging of the deck through the Lantern+Millers combo proved to be enough over time. Specially after discard became part of the deck and we could stall the opponent far easier. But do feel free to test Trinket Mage, just be aware it has been tested already and there is a reason we don't play it anymore.
It makes me sad that the list that got famous isnt running pyxis of pandemonium. That card was so much better than ghoulcaller's bell, since it stopped a lot of graveyard play at basically no cost, and won through eldrazi without pyrite spellbomb
***** Losing to Grudge, letting Emrakul reshuffle the grave causing you to time out in a match or shennanigans like that are a bigger issue. Most lists do run a split of Bells & Pyxis. Neither is "so much better" than the other though. One helps exiling stuff you don't want touching the grave, the other helps in self milling for recursion tricks.
Josue Rodriguez That seems unlikely. The LP foil on TCGPlayer is going for $19, which seems closer to what the actual foil price will end up stabilizing to. Though perhaps foil Lanterns are just impossible to come by.
I agree, their best shot is to mulligan extremely aggressively to get it into their opening hand, and even if they do there's a chance you've sideboarded in an answer or just take it with discard.
Roman Blados For burn For exalted heirarchs (give the a +1 counter and Bridge locks them) For killing flyers (wait till you watch match 3) The last ability is useless, we want our stuff to stay in the grave and we have Academy Ruins as anti self-mill.
progste Grindclock would be a faster kill condition, but you can't establish the lock as quickly with it, because you need to get your hand on the board as quickly as possible for Bridge to be effective.
progste I've been playing a version of this deck at my lgs for a few weeks now and although I tried grindclock, I decided it wasn't good enough. It doesn't actually speed things up much because you have to tap to put counters on it, and if you want to mill more than one card at a time you might end up putting something like an ancient grudge in the graveyard (I run pyxis of pandemonium to take care of things like that). Trying to speed it up with voltaic keys or energy chambers takes up space much needed for other things.
luv the deck i immedently went out and put it together and have been schooling kids with it. However i think the name should be Shredder. its a perfect name for the deck. Anyways the decks amazing. best brew I've seen since Ninja, bear, Delver. keep up the good work and let make this deck get banned
robert tingstrom Historically, the original name was Top Control (Nov. 2012), because it controls the top of the decks, but it was too generic and confusing with Sensei's Divining Top. Then Barbershop was adopted for a while, "Shave a little off the top", but people kept refering to it as Top Control. Then Mike Augustine was selected for an "Inside the deck" video and he presented his mono black version alleging it was a modified 8Rack variant and named it Pixy Stix (Dick Pyx), which is the name known to most people who have never seen the primer at MTGSalvation. In the last few months the primer at MTGSalvation has been refering to the deck as "Fateseal Control" because it describes what the deck does better, it fateseals both players every turn. But, after GP Charlotte, articles and pros are calling the deck "Lantern Control" and since thats what its being called mainstream it looks like that might be the name it will be known as in the future.
LSV has built 6 decks specifically labeled "Anti-Cheon." That's true friendship, right there.
The Cynical ME Maybe it's short for Anti-Empty the Cheons
To LSV: the deck was put together by members on mtgsalvation. It is an awesome deck.
Dave Ellis Yup. 3 years worth of testing: www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/deck-creation-modern/221769-fateseal-control-top-control

I saw this deck list from Charlotte and was instantly intrigued. Thanks for the videos, LSV!
I still come back to watch this from time to time. It stokes the banked embers of my blackened heart.
Thanks again.....
my friend played this deck about half a year back, never thought i'd see it on a CFB video.
Absurd! Thank you for showing this deck, I had never seen it before. Now next modern event at my FNM will not make me any new friends but I will have a blast - that is for sure!
thank you ive wanted to see this deck played on film for soooooooo long
Lantern Control started WWI
I can already see twitch chat crying about how this deck does nothing, it will be awesome =)
Awesome! I had just heard about this deck and was wondering what the hell it was when I saw a video was up!
My guess is bow of nylea is an extra out to burn and a way to pump 0 attack power creatures so they can't attack under bridge.
most entertaining deck I've seen in a while
How to lose friends at kitchen table magic.
This is a pretty sweet deck!
Beautiful.
This is a rogue deckbuilders dream. Love it
Looks like potential to time out with this deck on my go is a cause for concern.
i saw this deck tech before gpcharlotte, looks good
Man, guarding against an 11th hour Creakwood Ghoul was pure genius. It would have easily disrupted Academy Ruins.
Now this deck is actually a thing.. i remember building a version with lantern and screeching sliver years ago..
I'm surprised you never went for the pyrite spellbomb + academy ruins kill (especially in game 1), which is slow but often times faster than the mill plan.
Benjamin Zorn The information you get from milling can be useful for later games even if you sacrifice a little time.
In game 1 I would have aggressively mill and extract away lingering souls but that ensnaring bridge top draw saved your life so it didn't made that much of a difference. This deck looks very very fun though. If it raises too much they can ban the lantern.

This reminds me of Ravnica Standard Zur's Weirding control.
Pithing Needle naming Creekwood Ghoul. Can't lose.
I really miss this modern meta
This deck looks incredibly fun lol.
Bow of Nylea is to pump your opponent's 0 power creatures so they can't attack. Ornithopter, Noble Heirarch, and Birds of Paradise come to mind, not sure what else there is that is 0 power and a possible threat from pumps.
I have seen versions of this deck that run trinket mage to find your artifacts.
Wow. That deck... is vicious...
I would like a list of the cards as I cannot see them clearly.
Something tells me that if this deck ever gets banned, it's gonna be like eggs, from pure annoyance...
rsh0561 If they ban anything from the deck, it's probably gonna be ensnaring bridge.
But yeah... Even if it happens, that will be far in the future.
rsh0561 It doesn't take 3 hours to play a turn though...
naphackDT i play turbofog topdeck control -so they can ban ensnaring bridge all they want
rsh0561
I am really getting sick of the fact that any time a deck looks even remotely decent and ISN'T "hurr curve out on dudes, swing, and occasionally play some removal(and call it control for some awful reason)" people immediately start discussing the need to ban it because it commits the sin of being more complex than racing to 20 damage.

Could the bow be there for the burn match up? I dont know how well the bow works in modern I have never played against it
i like the version with counterbalence and mono blue tezz
This deck is sweet! Love it!
How is this deck working against cards like.... emrakul?
Doesn't this deck need Pyxis of Pandemonium instead of Ghoulcaller's Bell + a miser's Emrakul?
Andrew Ottoson According to the guy who played the deck at the GP you want bell because milling yourself is very good with academy.
The deck as designed makes total sense. I just like playing Emrakul at a discount.
Andrew Ottoson Yes most lists do run a split of Bells & Pyxis for Emrakul, Grudge and whatnot. But no, we don't play Pyxis to play Emrakul at a discount. With Bridge on board Emrakul is useless. We run Pyxis to exile the opponent's
Emrakuls lol.
Makes sense.
Could you add Counterbalance to this, and lock them out even more in theory?
You could, but I don't think this deck would do too well in legacy.
Counter balance is legal in modern just sees no play since top is banned
Eijoyujo 615 The thing is that to make counterbalance work here you need to establish the lock first and at that point you can simply keep them off good draws. There is no reason to let them draw good cards just for the fun of countering them with Counterbalance.

I would've had some Mind sculpt in there just in case things get out of hand & I need to mill him afap.
Chet Irons Memory's journey could help, too. Lammastide weave could really help if you had trouble either getting an ensnarring bridge or getting your hand down to 0.
+Chet Irons Unnecessary, arcane ruins prevents self milling, as does bow.
You should've duressed the Path, it would let him shuffle at instant speed
This deck should be called The Real Rack because this shit is torture.
this Trinket Mage deck needs more Trinket Mages. 7/10
Rudy Viner Trinket Mage at 3cmc is too slow for modern. The only 3cmc is Bridge because it deals with the wincons of 80+% of the meta.
Trinket Mage is an OG and master of bling.
Also this deck needs lanterns 5-8 for consistency, and Mage is the best tutor for it.
This is the most hilarious deck ever, I'm definitely gooing to play it
I always name creakwood ghoul with my pithing needles.
Games Start at 2:35
Why use copperline instead of burninwillow?
Good point, I imagine, like most decks, it has to do with availability.
I LOVE this deck, genius, lol

Randall Thompson
I know thnkr. Its me, zerodown. lol. :p
Just having a blast commenting on these videos.
$60? Yeah I want to kill myself. We had a 3 year head start to make the buyout LOOOL
Josue Rodriguez That seems unlikely. The LP foil on TCGPlayer is going for $19, which seems closer to what the actual foil price will end up stabilizing to. Though perhaps foil Lanterns are just impossible to come by.
Even if he had the two Stony's in his deck, it's super hard to hate out a deck that decides what cards you draw.
Turgle Bopper This is the biggest point missed by people who look at the list and claim it folds to incidental affinity hate.
I agree, their best shot is to mulligan extremely aggressively to get it into their opening hand, and even if they do there's a chance you've sideboarded in an answer or just take it with discard.
"New" Modern deck? This thing's been around for years.
THE MILL IS REALLLLL OMGGGGG
This deck was secretly the reason why they won't unban JTMS
why no Pyxis of Pandemonium??
Zalanaar like ghoulcallers bell, but good against flashback, but doesnt work with surgical extraction
Bow is for burn??
Roman Blados
For burn
For exalted heirarchs (give the a +1 counter and Bridge locks them)
For killing flyers (wait till you watch match 3)
The last ability is useless, we want our stuff to stay in the grave and we have Academy Ruins as anti self-mill.
This is absolutely gross. WotC could never have imagined this deck would ever exist. Awesome deck Luis.
could this deck use grindclock?
progste Grindclock would be a faster kill condition, but you can't establish the lock as quickly with it, because you need to get your hand on the board as quickly as possible for Bridge to be effective.

This deck makes my skin crawl... please no more, please stop!
trinket mage seems good in this deck....
Saw someone with this deck playing side events at GP vegas. I was perplexed and thought it was a joke... My opinions have not changed.
luv the deck i immedently went out and put it together and have been schooling kids with it. However i think the name should be Shredder. its a perfect name for the deck. Anyways the decks amazing. best brew I've seen since Ninja, bear, Delver.

Poor guy. 5 years later the deck is dead
The Bow is supposed to Un-mill yourself and gain you life for agressive decks. Going against another deck that mills can be bad.
why bother trying to mill when u can just recur pyrite w/ the lock down
LSV playing a deck that does nothing. *contented sigh*
You dont say
I prefer the decks original name
I wish people would play some paper magic anymore.
I fell asleep while watching 2nd game :(
Petar Miljanovic Let me guess. You were the opponent? lol
That deck is absolute dick. I love it
This deck is a beautiful train wreck.
This is such a stupid deck XD But it's absolutely brilliant! XD
i have been building a version of this deck and its surprisingly good against the meta.
tappedout.net/mtg-decks/21-04-15-cBi-top-control/
This deck is so mean but so awesome
This is such a wanky deck
I haven't started watching yet but I hope you lose every game. God damnit I hate this deck.
Erik B Ohhh your in for a dissapointment dude. lol.
Josue Rodriguez OMG the pain.
This looks horrible to play against
