    Music from the historical repertoire of Tang-era music, erhu by Amanda Toh, pipa by Pang Wingg Man, arrangement by Farya Faraji. This is an arrangement of a historical piece of music from the era of Tang-dynasty China using modern Chinese instrumentation, known by the name Cáo Pó. Keep in mind that the melody I selected here is one of the many variations based on reconstructive methods. Described in the poem "Chasing the Past" (追昔遊) by Yuan Zhen (元稹), it was a dance piece. For more information on the melody, I refer you to this video with more exhaustive explanations: ruclips.net/video/CfF2PNBzlnE/видео.html
    Tang-era music demarcates itself from modern Chinese traditional music due to the stronger emphasis on heptatonic modes. Whilst modern Chinese traditional music has a tendency to emphasise pentatonicism relative to earlier eras, said earlier eras like the Tang-dynasty's would feature higher occurrences of heptatonic modes like the one heard here. The instrumentation consists of a modern Chinese ensemble of erhu, sheng, yangqin and pipa.
    The Tang dynasty ruled from 618 to 907, and it is seen by most historians as a golden of Chinese culture, some considering it the apex of many Chinese arts such as poetry.

      who was the first Chinese emperor of Mongolian decent?
      I genuinely wonder about this because I have read many moons ago that the Tang and Song dynasty as well as the Yuan Dynasty rulers were decedents of Chinggis Kahn and therefore I'd appreciate a refresher for the memory

    • @Ulfr5
      @Ulfr5 4 месяца назад +12

      @@HrLBolle that depends on what you define as Emperor, or Mongol. Genghis was long after the Tang, and I believe you're referring to Emperor Taizong, who was styled as a Khan of the northern Turks. Officially it was Kublai, but it can be argued that Abaoji of the Liao was the first of Mongolian descent, but that seems anachronistic and reversed, since the Mongols came after the Khitan. Same with going back further to the Murongs of the Yan and the Tuoba of the Wei.

      that's a lot to sort
      easiest for the definition

    • @Ulfr5
      @Ulfr5 4 месяца назад +3

      @@HrLBolle it'd be Kublai if you're looking for a ruler over a unified China. If you're thinking of anyone from the region of Mongolia who later claimed to be an Emperor, but had other claimants to the Imperial throne, it'd be Liu Yuan, leader of one of the Xiongnu tribes going back to the fall of the western Jin dynasty, who claimed to be a matrelineal descendant of the Han Emperors.

    Tout ça est très cosmopolite comme sous l'ère Tang. Les percussions qui donne le tempo, et l'ehru qui joue sa partition: cela rend l'ensemble assez harmonieux. Il faut s'imaginer déambuler au sein du palais impérial de Chang'an pendant la fête des lanternes. C'est une belle réussite bravo !

    Very beautiful. So refined. Perhaps you might consider a musical telling of the journey of Marco Polo. Seems like that would be right up your alley. Hundreds of years old, many lands and peoples, huge distances and lots of drama. His journey, as told to and written down by his fellow inmate, while in prison, can be found online and what a story it is.

    I remember when people requested Chinese music and you weren't comfortable enough with the Chinese musical system yet, but I knew it was only a matter of time before you'd tackle it :D
