BMW's CE 02 electric scooter is aimed at the youths

- BMW is expanding its electric motorcycle lineup. Well, really its electric scooter lineup. The new CE 02 is smaller than the recently available CE 04 and targets a younger buyer.
In fact, BMW doesn't even want to call it a scooter. Instead, it’s calling it a eParkourer. Yes it’s a mouthful and yes it’s mostly just marketing shenanigans, but the CE 02 looks like a classier version of the Honda Rukus with an EV powertrain inside.
BMW also showed off Motorrad companion smartglasses that display speed, speed limit, gear (for gas bikes), and turn-turn-directions. The glasses work with any of the company’s current crop of bikes that use the Motorrad app.
The CE 02 will be available in the spring of 2024, while the smart glasses will be available this summer.

“How do you do, fellow kids!”
It needs to be cheaper and lighter for it to be a success. Being able to carry it inside would be a huge plus for urban travel especially toward youths with no garage space
I think the batteries are removable, so you can pick them up and charge them at home
At this speed and range, BMW should be exploring high-powered Stand-on motorbikes (E-Scooters), which are far more compact and just as powerful, making them ideal for those who live in smaller spaces.
It is cheaper as TVS Motors makes them here in India (this is Joint Project Development between both of them), but BMW being BMW priced it stupidly!
If you have $8k in the US and are young, you are probably going to buy a used car instead.

If you live in the center of a major American city and work as a software engineer, I can see how this would’ve a practical vehicle. Other than this specificity demographic, I don’t see the point of this silly little expensive scooter…
with 8 grand, you can literally buy a Honda Navi, Honda Grom, AND have change left over for a helmet & gear

55 mile range and a price starting around $8k is going to be a hard sell. How many youth will have $8-$9k to purchase this? I like the idea though.
It’s all about the monthlies.
The youth is going to buy a cheap 2nd hand motorcycle or scooter and the wealthier ones are going to get a car as a gift along with their license by their parents so the market for this thing is nearly non existent and another problem is that since it looks cool , has good quality peripherals and is small it screams "steal me".
When I was in high school, kids already driving BMW cars to school, this is priced like a toy.
Remember, its just a toy.

How is this targeted for youth at 8k?
I have the Metacyle, the Insurance for E-scooters is up the roof !!!! one is better off getting an gas powered scooter which has very cheap insurance. Remember boys and girls, one thing to pay for something expensive one time, but the recurring expense is what eats up your wallet. You pay off 8 grand, good for you, but if you have to pay constant high rate on insurance, forget it.....

Man I’m a 20 year old 3rd year nursing student in Washington, DC. This would so perfect to ride in the city to my clinical sites. But nope too busy paying the school. So I don’t count towards the “youth”

@@samsno3667 so true. Funny story a company actually gave me a electric stand scooter to test and after a year of riding it. It got swiped by the locals. Took it right out of the bike lock.
It needs to drop to like 4 to 5 k before anyone would be interested . It is cool looking but the lack of range and also would like to know about the waterproofing. I like the electric direction but with having less mechanical components like the gas vehicles it should cost less not more.

Seeing as modern EUCs and electric kick scooters can outperform this in both speed and range, as well as be half the price, not really sure who this would be for. Someone wanting micro mobility would go for an EUC, ESkate, or Scooter. Someone who wants a bit more motorcycle feel and performance would just get a motorcycle.
I guess it makes sense why BMW has fought hard to make PEVs illegal in Germany. Wish they'd just switch focus and compete with the manufacturers making what many consumers are already switching too.
I'd love a German engineered EUC with an integrated HUD in my helmet.
Also aimed at adults in Europe. 11Kw version side bag for commuting to the office and grocery store.
Anyone who has 8k will buy a 2nd hand car and anyone who doesnt will be a £400 e-Scooter
This is perfect to go to the grocery store and gym in your part of town! Plus it's stylish and not crazy amounts of power. In the US there is a gap between 100 to 200 cc non sport bikes.

I absolutely love it in every way. And honestly, the price isn’t that bad either for considering the other scooter and motorcycle price options out there. This model comes to under £9500 at its highest range so that’s pretty good if you’ve got a little bit of spare money in the pocket, even if you are among the younger generation. I for one night actually save up some money to eventually get this.
Are you high ? 9.5k for youth? Maybe those that slang crack, for normal kids this is way too expensive. It's not worth it and it looks bad too. And they don't call I a scooter, but it is

"The price isn't that bad either for considering the other scooter and motorcycle options out there" have you actually looked into this? dude you can get TWO BRAND NEW FULL SIZE reliable HONDA XR150 dual sport motorcycles for less than this 30mph SCOOTER... or how about a 75hp naked Yamaha MT07 starts at 8 grand... 9 grand is absolutely absurd and only BMW would try and charge this price.
These youths might be better off getting a used BMW G310 variant for about a 3rd of the price. Or, if I've got 8 grand to buy something with a BMW logo to increase my cool factor, I'm going used R9T.
The R9T will have lower insurance than any EV Motorcycle/Scooter, the US is not yet ready for EV Motorcycle/EV due, for some reason the Insurance on anything EV is 3 times that of a regular gas powered vehicle. I have the cheap Metacycle, the insurance is up the roooooooof !!!!
At this performance level it's better to have the motor in the rear wheel. More room for cargo/battery and no belt.

Good idea not calling it a "scooter" for search results sake. If you search "scooter" these days all you get are the stand-on ones. There is an unintended search bias toward those. Just try exploring a new ["registerable"] scooter you don't know the name of. Good luck.
Good point, especially since there are several stand up E Scooters that outperform this BMW for half the price. My $3000 EUC beats it on range, and can go the speed limit everywhere in my town.
You surely meant power output levels and not battery pack sizes. 4KW output is the electric equivalent to 50cc's in the US and often doesn't require a motorcycle license. There is zero chance a bike this small will have a 11KWH battery pack. 11kw of power output however sounds about right got a 50-something mph top speed bike.
I knew these major car companies were going to get in on the E Scooter thing.
I would seriously consider buying one of these scooters.
It would suit my local travel needs perfectly.
Have you seen the modern Electric Kick Scooters or EUCs? For about 1/2 the price you can get both more milage and more range. For around a 1/4 of the price you can get similar specs, and a lot more mobility. I take mine on both local trails as well as on the road, and when I go to work it just slips under my desk.

The person mentioned the BMW might be good for local travel needs, right now you can get 40+ miles of range at 30mph for $1200, which for most local needs is plenty. Also in a much more convenient package. Then for a about $4000 you can get one that would outperform the BMW in speed, range, and portability. So yeah, BMW should be able to do better that just relying on their name value.

Starting at £7,450 the CE 02 is far from cheap but pricing in the electric motorcycle market is still all over the place - so while it's ...

Ola is selling similar powered scooters in India for $2.2k. Certainly the quality isn’t on par with the BMW, but a reasonable price structure will attract Gen Z buyers. Otherwise BMW motorcycles will continue to be a brand for Boomers
I have the Ola top end model and we got ours for 1300$ after electric subsidy. For this to add sales number, BMW india either need to manufacture it locally to bring the costs down and still find a way to price it around 2400$ max.
That'd actually be super handy for work, I work in the countryside 25km from home with some really nice roads. As long as I can make it over and back I can do all the charging in work for free.

That's nearly $10k including tax, reg, dealer, etc. for an eBike to ride around the city to see your friend as he says. Probably depreciates 50% after the first day. Who at BMW Motor was responsible for this very bad strategy?

8+k to get maybe 50 miles going to places that cannot accompdate charging. this only makes sense in the city if the battery can be removed.

Top speed of 59 mph and how long is that sustained and how heavy can the person be? does it still go 59 mph if you weigh 230 pounds compared to weigh in 175 pounds. Ill keep my Honda Grom.

I’m going to get one! I been bugging BMW about something comparable to the Grom but the closest thing they have is the G310.

@@TerraMagnus so which one is better? The G310 was boring at first. After a few miles I started to appreciate it and learned the power band. Then it was a lot of fun! My 23 S1000RR was getting serviced.

9.5k for a scooter intended for the youth is crazy
You can get a Honda Navi for $1800 brand new that is about as environmentally friendly that takes literally 15 seconds at any gas station to go from empty to another 100 miles. It's also dirt cheap to maintain. If this BMW is for the 'youths' it makes no sense. What youth has the money for this?
This is for the person that spends 8k on an electric scooter so they can tell everyone they spent 8k for an electric scooter.

Parking is a issue in London + In London you don't get stuck in traffic if you have a 2 wheeler. This product is possibly targeted at Europe markets. Not trying to upset anyone with my commentary.

Far too expensive. My son has started to ride and he has a quality second hand Honda 125, ca £1500. Can do 60 mph, fine for commuting to work out of town, which he does, and with such frugal fuel consumption it is hardly any worse on the environment. We have a drive, but no worries about installing charging equipment. I just cannot see how this bike can a success. If you do happen to have £9000 buy a quality small second hand car.

The onyx motorbikes, super 73 Ariel Rider have been having better stats and friendlier price with aftermarket support already to improve range and power etc. Honda with the compacto and this from bmw are a let down they gotta catch up
