Our 25 year old son who is about to be barred sent this video to us and said he is going to follow your advice step by step. He is confident it will yield results. We are all so grateful for your help.
Paul -- great video. I was a trial lawyer for a firm in Houston (licensed in Louisiana as well...) doing plaintiffs' work (mainly asbestos trials across the country...tort law isn't great in Texas) for about 10 years. Went solo earlier this year and transitioned into estate planning/probate. You hit the nail on the head with your advice. Your work is much appreciated.
Show Notes: 1. Build a WordPress/Square website with your domain name that you can handle. 2. Start a Podcast. 3. Take the niche topics in estate planning, document them as you master them, and gradually build expertise in estate planning. Use this in your podcast and content marketing collateral. 4. Create a RUclips channel. It's free. Optimize your RUclips video descriptions. 5. Use a lapel mic for clearer audio. 6. Put the podcast episodes and RUclips videos on your website. 7. Optimize your LinkedIn profile. Update your profile with a post the moment you publish any content - podcast episode, YT video, blog, etc. 8. Facebook: Make a company page and keep it updated. In essence - Go digital, develop expertise in a few areas of estate planning, document your process to produce content, and push it through all the channels you can imagine. Most of this costs nothing. The first few videos/content pieces will get minuscule traction. Keep going. Till you don't do this 1,000 times - this will not start showing results. Next Level: Books, eBooks, and speaking engagements. Soon, you will start getting calls and you will have to develop a system for converting them, pricing them, and retaining them.
Clients want an inheritance administration not an estate planner who promises peace of mind. Our Estate Planner ran from the plan costing our family a million in litigation because our parents hired an Estate Planner instead of a Trusted Advisor with NICER forgery proof title holding entities.
Thank you for your insights. This is very helpful to those of us starting our online advertising and marketing while also starting a new practice in Estate Planning.
Very helpful video, thank you. I'm always thinking I need to know even more about the law first, but I've been putting so much more time into the marketing and business strategies now. It seems backwards, but this is confirmation that I'm headed in the right direction. Thanks again.
Great video. People need to realize that you need to put in the work early on to develop contacts. Chamber of commerce meetings, networking, etc. Thank you for this!
Another excellent video. Very informative and encouraging. Helpful to have a “roadmap” of sorts as you start out. I wish you’d write a book detailing all of your advice on starting a practice!
This is really helpful! I am in the early stages of transitioning to an estate planning practice. I am looking forward to working on these items this weekend! Any suggestions on first niche topics for the podcast and RUclips channel?
I'd start with a topic that you know something about, or a topic that you have some passion for - something that will be easy to research and talk/write about. Great job weekend warrior!
When you started out writing out niche topics, were you paying for legal research tools, such as Westlaw, to research the topic? What was your experience before going out on your own?

I have viewed this video many times. This week, I am going to start this process....1,000 times!

I’m an IA and IL solo attorney pivoting into estate planning, and I’ve watched a few of your videos before finding this. Thanks for the advice!
In 2023, great video and thanks.

It does sound like a lot of work but it also sounds like practical advice and I am interested to try.
This is very helpful and specific about what it takes to generate momentum. Thank you!
Good luck Sara. Work hard!
Very helpful. I am interested in starting an estate planning practice. I have a BA accounting and am looking at what it takes to make this a reality
Great advice, thanks Paul!
What software do you use for Estate planning?
Do you think we need to have Westlaw or Lexis in order to start doing this? What other resources do you recommend?

Absolutely brilliant
