Been a fan for 25 years. It is unreal how many great songs they have. I remember being 10 years old and hearing Green Corn at summer camp. such a great band 🏆
I've got respect from the community I've got my bridge game to look forward too I've got this chance a golden opportunity As long as I keep doing what I'm supposed to do You see my wife and kids they depend on me To provide them with nothing but the best I feel it's my duty my obligation To live up to the standards society suggests I'll keep on working for their benefit And I'll keep on drinking I'll keep on believing in I'll keep on believing in my life Another day of slaving and smiling buying and trading Living the life of a wealthy man But somehow I don't feel so rich inside That doesn't make sense I just had this little vacation As soon as I get this operation Taken care of I'll start enjoying The good things in life So I'll keep on working for the benefits And I'll keep on drinking I'll keep on believing in I'll keep on believing in my life When the pity spins your mind Darkness fills your heart And I won't be around When you feel you're all alone Then you'll know it's time To go into the ground When the pity spins your mind Darkness fills your heart And I won't be around I've got my family friends and associates To stand by me as this threshold comes near Within their faces I see grave concern I ask myself if their thoughts are sincere After all these years of being complacent What do I get... tenderness affection a true sense of love Just pain through a body chalk full of regret I'll keep on believing my life still has value And I'll keep on laughing Why can't I stop laughing? I can't stop the laughing.
After seeing them many many times, I saw them play the whole ep a few years ago. All Fat Mike said was "Sheesh...here we go" and they ruled. NOFX FOR LIFE.
has some "sticking in my eye" vibes to it. Love it. Man these guys have so many freaking songs. Being in bands my whole life I know what it takes to get 4 guys to rehearse and perfect a new song like this and I just think of all the hard WORK they put into their career. Incredible.
just wanna point out that its more like sticking in my eyes got the death of john smith vide. and i disagree, both songs are far from sounding similar. source: i play both songs, the death of john smith is on my channel

This is the song for the common man. Spending hours working for nothing Why can I stop laughing? I can't stop to laughing.... So raw the way he ends the lyrics. It's a reality that many people live
One of my favorite songs of ALL time!!🎵❤ first time I heard this.... so many years ago on an old thrasher skate video on VHS tape 😂😂 still listening 2day💪🎵
I cannot tell how I f*** love this song. I tried to play this song with two friends and it was great fun, although we probably only once about nailed it. That song is a b***. No wonder NOFX never play it live.
I bought this album in 2002 at the innocent and stupid age of 13 as my first CD. I wasn’t even into punk music, but I had heard someone somewhere mention “NOFX” and I guess the name stuck. I went to my local buy/trade store when I got my first paycheck from my first part time job, and looked around for a CD that would be cool to have and found this. It was this song that made me decide to never follow the status quo, and this album that led me to become a skateboarder all throughout high school and university. I bought the CD because of the artwork, not knowing what was really on it, but always remembered it because of the songwriting. Just a truly brilliant piece of kit. To think that it came out when they were still more or less “nothing” in the grand scheme of things with such intelligence and depth really says a lot about their later success.
My name is john smith. Ive been a nofx fan since birth. Im goinf to the last shows. Saturday is what i chose. Can’t afford em all. Coolest shit tossed my id on stage it was in the mail couple weeks later. Circle pits and smiles. See yall there
Fat Mike is so underrated as a musician and songwriter. People focus to much on how much of a jerk he is, and on his (TERRIBLE) vocal abilities. He''s surely one of the best and most talented bass players in Punk and also an amazing songwriter. I understand why guys like Matt Freeman get so much praise, but in the end most of the time it's just shredding, scales and speed, while Mike has some really "musical" and killer original bass lines...
yyyyeaass, again and again, all life long. After all these years of being complacent what do I get? Tenderness, affection, a true sense of love? No! Just a pain through the body chock full of regret
I love how nofx borrows parts from their songs and puts them in other songs but slightly different. Like an easter egg. Theres a part on the decline that is very similar to the begining of this song but thats only one example. Theyve done it a few times.
This sounds a lot like stuff from Lagwagon's Trashed album, which is amazing. What's all these super dynamic stop/start bits called? I love it, but most bands seem to have stopped doing it at some point in the 90s, why?
Propagandhi are a band who still do a lot of that syncopated and accented type of rhythm with really short, lead sounding guitar fills in their songs. You're right though, the best example and the one that I immediately think of is Lagwagon on 'Trashed'. The entire album has that metal-punk feel to it, especially songs like 'Island of Shame' and 'Stoking the Neighbors'.
I already knew the song when I first watched 4WD with friends, back in the days, but I was so fucking happy to hear that one song in a skate video part ! Perfect match.
Which riffs specifically were stolen from RKL? That’s the only thing in common with RKL, the rock n roll style riffs. Nofx is a lot more poppy and melodic
I always wanted them to play this down in sandy eggo. Missed the last shows. Sucking fucks. I know mike has the vegas spot. Ill check it out. Theres no scene tj has a good ska scene and beautiful hooks and poles for whatever fish you hole.
I got my bridge game to look forward to...i know there is the card game bridge...but is this song about John that skin that like threw someone off a bridge or something haha? Then maybe the cops shot him?
Those are suicidal thoughts - "when the pity spins your mind....." I have been fan since 1995. If you feel this way....if you are feeling all alone....call out to Jesus. He saved me in 2015.
Sophomore year pick a song and explain what the lyrics mean to you. You know most people picked Backstreet Boys etc. My edgy little punk ass up there with these lyrics like: uhm it means conformity sucks and life is bullshit. Good times
Best NOFX song in my opinion
Agreed
yeah i agee too
Best NOFX opinion in this song
This is big brain punk rock . But the entire RIBBED album is better lol
@@LeonardB-x5gRibbed is great. Green Corn goes hard. But I'm going to have to go with Heavy Petty Zoo

My favorite Nofx song!
Luke Collins the riffs r great . The bass is pretty tight too .
Cmon mate, the whole ep is magic. Stranded is the best 'used & thrown away' song ever.

Check out their cd ribbed!! Its imo their best!! White trash is also pretty good!!
4 years of college and I now understand the song’s meaning; shedding one aspect of one’s identity. Yes it goes deep.

fat mike delivering on bass as per usual :)
Favorite song heard it in the nineties bring it up every binge im on
Darkness fills your heart and I won't be around...
Nofx's most iconic song. Did fat mike write most of it? I wonder if hefe wrote some parts? It's just a crazy song lmao
12roots mike wrote it all but Hefe wrote his vocal part. Mike changed the lyrics to hefe’s vocal part later
I grew up on NOFX. Strung Out, Blink, Suicide Machines, and other....now I'm like some super corp dude...I WONT LEAVE THIS EVERRRR
keep rocking my guy! with people like you punk never dies.
What's important on this song is the lyrics. Great lyrics.

Smelly Punk Rocker There’s this song they’ve got called The Decline you might wanna look into..😂
I’ve heard of it, but never listened. I’ll follow up on my thoughts of it.
Smelly Punk Rocker it’s approximately 19 minutes long
Smelly Punk Rocker But it’s really more like 5 or 6 songs rolled together
I’ve been looking for this song since 1998
I have been looking for this song since 1998 shit you not

I realised people only praise people who less joking around or people who are serious. I just don’t know why.
I like mikes vocals, it fits the music perfectly so it's not "TERRIBLE" imo
His vocals were only “terrible” pre- ribbed. He has a bratty voice, sure, but if my mom loves “the longest line”, he has to have done something right
