Unpopular opinion: I like Ostapenko as a player. Yes she’s had her fair share of controversy but her pinpoint accuracy is extremely satisfying to watch. It’s also really funny to see her reactions to her opponents’ winners and sometimes her drama is very entertaining.

Ostapenko so hard to beat when she's on. She's a pure striker...very hard to teach, a lot of raw talent. Her easy power from the ground reminds me of Seles or Pierce. Using her entire body too like a kinetic chain to get that power.
She may win or lose the match.... but ostapenko's style of play - always firing the guns - no matter the situation of the match is what keeps many ( me too ) watch her play . Her brand of tennis - hitting winners at will is so good. Today ostapenko looked like she was hitting the top gear.
It seems Giorgi's only way to beat Osta in this match would have been to smack the balls away before Osta did but she just couldn't. Osta's groundstrokes were very precise and she hit the balls so early.
I think Giorgy should have tried to take pace off from the ball, to hit even more the angles while keeping the ball low, this way Ostapenko may had to reduce her pace and maybe Giorgy could have won more points this way.
Love it! Ms. Congeniality overpowers another. She is definitely a handful when she is striking the ball like that, and needs to be considered among the frontrunners for Wimbledon. Felt bad for Giorgi who was in over her head with Ostapenko today.

I could see this happening. 2 of the hardest hitters on the womans tour, but JO goes for a winner on 1st strike, Giorgi likes to hit 2-3 shots before going for the winner. You have to make JO run cuz once she finds her groove, she'll blast the winners.
Honey, Ostapenko was playing like she had an important appointment to get to, and wanted to wrap this baby up fast! So she switched into pinpoint precision gear and got it done!
80% of her shots, she didn't have to move her feet. Just like Serena, if all you do is hit to the middle third of the court, where they don't have to pursue the ball, its trouble. Giorgi couldn't find the corners at all.

But it had been the time shortly before Iga changed her tennis strategy . She had played too many balls to the centre of the court and too many backhands landed in the centre high bouncing. I believe today Iga would played more aggressively. She actually served for the match in Dubai but lost her aggression and Osta managed to steal the victory in a tiebreak of a third set however...if they play on grass..i would say 50:50
Maybe this is a dumb question but why do players play high level tournaments a week before slams? Like won’t they be too tired for Wimbledon now vs somebody who has has a training week and a chance to get used to london
@@krob2327 they plan all this stuff out months in advance and have been doing periodized training since they were children; its crazy to us but a few high level matches actually primes their bodies rather than tires them out

I just assumed the very top players always sat out the week before the slams as they didn’t need the money and preferred to practice as it allowed for a more ‘rested’ body going into the slams . I really enjoy the grass season so not complaining at the number of tournaments aha.

The ball was called out well before Giorgi made contact and she was clearly able to have made a defensive shot in return had the call not been made before she initiated her stroke and made contact. I am shocked she did not speak up bc that is by the book a replay of the book, it cannot go automatically to Ostapenko, Giorgi made it to the ball but was hindered by the incorrect out call. Either way, it looks like she knows she won’t last a match with long rallies so she pounds the ball to end the point quickly one way or another.
