    • @pajiad191
      @pajiad191 2 года назад

      Josh, I'm interested to hear the results of your project. I believe lightweight concrete would be best for a proect like this with a high air content. This slab in the video also was quite thick which may help resist cracking. One thing that I've seen done before is to place a hard neoprene liner of durometer strength 60 around the edge between slab and conex box. This will provide some help against cracking during moving. Lightweight concrete with rebar and a neoprene liner with as little movement as possible is the best option.

    For the concrete deck up top did you have to put and kind of slip on it for better drainage? And also did you need a beam on the inside for support of the concrete up top?

    • @randybobandy9828
      @randybobandy9828 3 года назад

      As long as they reinforced the window and Door openings on the container no extra support would be needed. These containers are stacked up to 9 high all the time and they are usually full of goods(gross weight of 67,000lbs for each container) 3in concrete floor should be nothing in comparison.

    Wow, I would’ve thought the roof would’ve needed a reinforcement of some sort for all the weight

    • @davis.fourohfour
      @davis.fourohfour 3 года назад

      Kinda does. It supports weight on the corner posts, nowhere else.
      I assume it solidified and at least spreads the load on the edges instead of the fragile roof area.

    • @ContainingLuxury
      @ContainingLuxury  3 года назад +1

      It actually does have reinforcement... we welded angle iron across the top and then it’s a lightweight concrete mix, about 1/2 the weight of standard

  • @JoaoAmadoTV

    1:30 you say "it will have 3" of concrete so it will be very well isolated" , is concrete a good thermal isolation ? I read everywhere that it's bad isolation, it's very hot or very cold. I read that the foam has air in it, so the air is the best isolation, but rock or concrete no..
    Could you please elaborate on that, maybe on a video where you review what was done with some experience on it and it you're happy with that solution, thank you a mil

    • @8eecf0d2
      @8eecf0d2 3 года назад +1

      In simple terms, insulation is about heat transfer and good insulation will transfer heat slowly.
      Concrete is a poor insulator but it does provide a lot of thermal mass which is useful for storing heat.
      It might help to imagine heating a concrete brick on a stove and dropping it in a bucket of water compared with a (much larger) foam brick that is the same weight as the concrete brick.
      Properly combining insulation and thermal mass is the real trick, a super-insulated structure will remain at a fairly constant internal temperature and a concrete slab can be used to passively store and release the heat throughout the day and night cycles.
      If the natural temperature is too hot or cold you should try to directly heat or cool the non-insulated components - this might be with a fireplace in cold climates (heating a concrete slab and bricks) or large open windows in hot climates (skipping the insulated exterior walls and cooling the non-insulated humans, lol.)
      I imagine covering the roof of a metal structure in concrete is not a particularly effective approach to passive heating and cooling.

    • @matiasmiguel818
      @matiasmiguel818 3 года назад

      If I'm not mistaken, it is lightened concrete (cement, sand, water and expanded polystyrene), it does not have stone, so the weight is 50% less than traditional concrete, it must also have much greater thermal insulation due to the expanded polystyrene . I think it is a very good idea.
