    As an LA Kings fan, this makes me sad. Was there for Game 1 Kings vs Yotes in Conference Finals in 2012. It was a great atmosphere. Hopefully, the Yotes name and colors stay in AZ for the future. As much as I dislike conference and division rivals such as the Ducks, Sharks, Yotes etc, I want them to stay put.

    If Alex Meruelo sells the team, as a long time fan of the Coyotes fan, I will not invest a dollar that would go into Meruelo' pockets! This is quite possibly THE WORST OWNER IN THE LEAGUE, Coyotes or otherwise. I WANT HOCKEY IN THE DESERT; IT CAN WORK. What really pisses me off about this ownership is they Traded off players that wanted to play for a future that was being built here. All. The fans appreciate the effort of the players and coaches were building something significant here. If the Coyotes leave Arizona, I'm done! My best option would be for the Coyotes or another franchise to stay here w/o Meruelo. We'll see what happens in the next few weeks.
    Why would ANYONE say they're committed to staying in Arizona and go to the effort of trying to purchase a suitable land via state auction THEN wanting to sell the team? The fact that the fans HAVEN'T HEARD WORD ONE From Meruelo. This B.S. NEEDS TO STOP! If there is hockey in Arizona in the future, Alex Meruelo NEEDS NOT BE A PART OF IT'S EXISTANCE.😢

    • @jerhaden
      @jerhaden 8 месяцев назад +2

      Fair point, however my takeaway from this is that it doesn't sound like Muerello wants to sell as much as the other owners want to force him to sell.

    • @elosogonzalez8739
      @elosogonzalez8739 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@jerhaden After a pathetic run as owner, there's no doubt that The man calling the shots really hasn't lived up to his words. The league, owners around the league and the players association is fed up with Meruelo. What bothers me most is the total lack of commitment to the fans. What's next? I think the team or league announces in the near future that the Coyotes will depart for Salt Lake City for next season. I would hate to think that OUR PROBLEM ALEX MERUELO will come back to own the next franchise. I'm out if that's the case.

    I am a Coyotes fan. I say let them move. This experiment failed right from the start when they moved from Winnipeg. Nobody gave this team a chance from the beginning, anyway. Bettman wants a team in the Phoenix area, he knows it's a viable market. Let them move, and let someone, perhaps NOT Meruelo, start from scratch and build an arena, build a contender, and end this charade. There will be hockey in the valley. Bettman will ensure that.

    It is multiple reasons why they're leaving, the lack of an NHL sized arena that couldn't get built, the Meruelo ownership fumbling its way out of Glendale, Tempe saying we don't want you, Scottsdale saying don't build near us, playing in Mullet with empty seats for another 3yrs. Not enough fan support even in an under 5K seat arena. I doubt the NHL ever goes back unless another ownership group with deep pockets builds an arena in Phoenix/Scottsdale. Reality is this should have happened 20yrs ago..now you know how Winnipeg felt!

    Could Dan Ishiba become a player in this. At this point Alex Meruelo will NEVER get another dollar from me. I don't see too many fans following Meruelo down another dry hole!😢 I feel so bad for all the Coyotes fans, we deserve so much better than what we've got from Alex Meruelo. Suns fan since 1993 (Johnson/Marjerle/Barkley, though they always been #2 behind Orlando, as I became a lifelong fanatical Magic fan as well in 1993), Cardinals fan since 1998 (The playoff run, Plummer, and by extension of the Suns), Snakes since 1998 (Always been fascinated by Expansion Teams, and also by extension), and the Mutts since 2013 (Didn't start watching hockey until then, but again went with them as with the exception of the Suns, my #1 Pro teams are all in AZ. My fanatical hockey friend and I refer to them as the "Desert Mutts").
    I'm trying to be optimistic about everything.
    But at the same time, I am very suspicious. Why would they announce this after the new arena render?
    Bah.... I almost feel like this has been a done deal for awhile, and the new arena renderings were actually a promo for the "New" Coyotes "Expansion Team" that will be arriving in 2027 after the "Old" Coyotes team moves to SLC.
    Whatever. A small part of me just doesn't care at this point.

    I am sorry this won't work. If I could amend the Constitution of Canada though, I would change it so that no level of government can give money to a for-profit company without a public referendum by the affected voters. I bet there are a lot of people in Alberta who are aghast at the 700 million dollars being given to the Calgary Flames, but there was no referendum. Arizona has way stronger protection for taxpayers, and there is no chance Phoenix voters vote for ANY public funds being used to help this arena along.
    It is not just Gary Bettman, if enough owners said enough, he has to do it, he works for the 32 owners, not the players, not the fans, just those guys.

    Good intro all around. Frank was ahead on this, it makes sense why the hometown guys were slow to believe him and fought for the hometown story.
    Though it's important to note: Craig Morgan's Coyotes-centric reporting inherently limits the bubble, both from his sources and by the audience he's pandering to. Dude has always done good work in that context, but he looks like a guy whose dog just got run over by Merulo here. Gotta feel for him as a person too, if the team moves on the 18th then what is his job in a week? Deserves better, though the fact that he suddenly looks resigned to this means that what he's hearing privately has seen a cataclysmic shift.

    • @tyandbrand
      @tyandbrand 8 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah, I can understand their pain but they are truly clueless about the SLC market. Furthermore, they claimed they didn't want to talk negatively about SLC and then of course made negative references towards it.
      The unfortunate fact is that the Coyotes don't have a real arena plan in place. They are hoping to win a land auction. Then they're hoping they can build onto said land with politicians in the surrounding area saying they pretty much don't want a land development project there. The Utah State Legislature has already approved 900 million in public funding for a dual arena for the Utah Jazz and an NHL team to not only get an NHL team but to help in their 2034 Winter Olympic bid. So while these two guys trash the Delta Center and it's 11,000 fan venue for a hockey game they continue to ignore the elephant in the room. There will be a new arena in SLC for an NHL team. There's no guarantee there will ever be an NHL worthy arena built in a preferable area of Arizona in a timely manner. Those are the facts.

I get you guys are in panic but do some actual research on Salt Lake.

    • @tyandbrand
      @tyandbrand 8 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, their takes on SLC are pretty embarrassing. They say they don't want to talk down about SLC yet do exactly that. I would ask them one huge question. With all that population in the Phoenix area, why is there not a huge push for an actual tangible arena?Instead, they've resorted to talking about a land auction and the potential for a new arena. A new arena that the mayor of Scottsdale pretty much said we don't want.
      Then the Delta Center smack talk... Guess what? They aren't going to be stuck in the Delta Center forever. I think they tried to gloss over this as fast as possible. Smith has 900 million in public funding(I hate public funding for billionaires stadiums/arenas fwiw) for a downtown dual purpose arena for the Jazz and an NHL team. There is no will they or won't they have a long term home and they won't be playing in an NCAA venue. I get it, it sucks losing your team but we have to face the fact that you can't just keep wishing and hoping that the new arena would actually even happen. There has to be actual momentum towards it rather than saying, well, we need to win a land auction and then go from there.

    As local in SLC, your silly comments on population is sour grapes. We all know the size of PHX metro is greater than SLC. BUT your numbers are county of SLCo of 1.2 million while a larger population (the wasatch front) is much greater and not a long commute for most areas. Stop making what's happening look like a story of city vs. city numbers rather than what is actually is. Not a good look on your part.

They get told REPEATEDLY by insiders that the people with actual financial skin in the game see no problem whatsoever with SLC as a market and it goes straight over their heads every time.
    The weepy pearl-clutching about staff losing their jobs is disingenuous too. How many tears were you guys shedding over Jets staff losing their jobs?

    • @tyandbrand
      @tyandbrand 8 месяцев назад

      Yeah, they don't know much about SLC at all except to trash the Delta Center(which is not the team's permanent home). Nobody is celebrating the loss of jobs at all. I feel bad for those people. But again, this also happens in many different industries and is sad then too. This is unfortunately how life unfolds. I wish them the best.

    This is not the end. Time is currently still on Arizona’s side. This media buzz is ridiculous. Before the rumors even started, the coyotes have a plan to be at mullet the next couple years. The more this purchase drags on and the closer it gets to next season without a purchase of the coyotes by the smith group, the better chance the coyotes get to stay. Bettman is definitely in your corner.

    SLC can have Team USA ,leave the Coyotes in AZ. A metroplex of 4.65 million vs a state of 3.1 million people.
    Phoenix Population 1.644 million people.
    SLC Population 205,000.
    How will they do better?
    Maybe if a man can get half price tickets for all 8 of his wives.

    coyotes fans have been in denial for a long time about this franchise. the coyotes have been a poorly run for decades. I have seen this pod try to damage control instead of analyzing just how many problems this team continues to have all the time. bettman convinced the owners to allow this mess to go on and the breaking point is finally reached.

      Hearing those 3 pouting and crying how horrible it is if they lose the coyotes.... i bet none of them cared about ripping this team away from the Winnipeg fans who had their hearts torn out when Jets moved to Phoenix. This is how the Winnipeg fans, players, and employees felt in 1996, so they can quit acting like this is so much worse. Enjoy the karma and be thankful the team lasted as long as it did in a very unsuccessful and failed market that should have moved away decades ago. I live in Houston and wished the team moved here instead of SLC.

    I promise that Ryan Smith will do 3 things.... he doesn't want to see a city lose their team, that's not his goal. He will not keep the Coyotes name or history.... he never wanted a relo, he wanted an expansion team. He will make sure that Arizona will have the first opportunity to get them back

    • @tyandbrand
      @tyandbrand 8 месяцев назад

      That's not his call though. I think Arizona needs to prove they can build an arena in a geographically appealing location in Arizona to have the opportunity to get an expansion franchise.
