  • Welcome back to another episode of Withjack Workshops! Today I'm going to be showing you how to make a gravity fed self-filling bird feeder from an empty wine bottle. For this you will just need about 4 feet of pressure treated 1x6 deck boards, an empty wine bottle, and a free weekend.
    Here's the link for the glass cutter I used: goo.gl/jlQ9ZT
    It's placed in a small jig I made for scoring bottles. It's effective about 75% of the time, other times the bottle slips or the score isn't perfect and the glass doesn't part well. They are easy to make, just take your time and watch for sharp glass pieces! After you score the glass, place it under cold water, and then hit it with boiling water. Do this back and forth a few times and the bottle will split along the score line. It sometimes takes a few tries to get right, just keep trying!

    Very nice job! You may want to re-think the top on the bottle. The squirrels will take that off. May be a 2-1/2" sewer drain plug? It can be tighten up at the top. Walmart or Ace should have them.

    Very nice project, I am going to build something very similar. One suggstion: One could add a slight overhang to the lid for a bit more protection from the elements. This comes with the disadvantage, that you can't use the cutoff from the holesaw.

    Hello Brett Withjack,
    first of all, it's a long time ago i really had to write in english so i might be out of training :)
    I just finished my own Birdfeeder made by your Instruction but i changed one thing in order to make it easier to clean the feeding place: Instead of crafting a wooden feeding dish (as in 2:39), i just crafted another wooden "Ring" (like the one in 4:38 for example) and inserted a plastic pot saucer. Another saucer could be used as the "roof" of the bottle. The big advantage is that you can just put that saucer out of the wooden holder an clean it.
    Those to saucers were also the only things i had to buy for ~50€cent.

    • @Bretts_Builds
      @Bretts_Builds  5 лет назад

      Thanks Marco! Your English is great. Sounds like you made some awesome improvements. I might have to try that out next time I make another one.

    Hey, nice video - cool, relaxing and kind of satisfying, but most of all it's useful because a birdfeeder provides food/energy even if it is snowy. It's important because if they don't eat for 24 hours they die. So well done sir :) I recently made a video about how we made a Bar Birdfeeder. It was a cool adventure I would say :)
