The Wonderful World of Alchemy During The Middle Ages...

- The word alchemy conjures up images of the occult, of dark laboratories and secretive wizard-like figures hunched over bubbling cauldrons. As well as trying to discover the philosopher’s stone, said to be the elixir of life and immortality, the idea of turning base metals into gold or silver has also fascinated people for thousands of years. The Medievals finally believed that they could ‘transmute’ one substance into another and in the Middle Ages the idea turned into quite a craze. Welcome to Medieval Madness

That last group of quotes was almost scary. That guy had some extremely forward looking veiws especially for the time.
I hope he got a price in heaven for having made the best prediction for the next 500 years
A true futurist
As a chemist, this is one of my favorite topics! Alchemists had some incorrect ideas and they didn't achieve goals like transmutation...BUT...finding what doesn't work has value in helping us figure out what does work. Alchemy was a beginning, and Isaac Newton and Robert Boyle, both alchemists, are also respected scientists today. Thanks, awesome vid!!
"Ready Steady Go" by L'arc~en~Ciel starts playing in my head.
Thanks to Terry Pratchett and the Discworld, the word alchemy conjures up visions of people with chemical stains on their hands, no eyebrows, and a permanent, slightly concussed look! 🤣 Very interesting video!
Love Sir Terry❤
Things, as it turns out from viewing this fascinating channel, have improved considerably since the Medieval period.
How many of us have been ordered by a ruthless king to take tin and turn it into gold, or be thrown into a tower, to be absolutely forgotten for eighteen years?
"Oh. I forgot you were in here. Well.. "..
What about Lord Percy and his discovery of precious Green?
I love how they weren't wrong, per se. They just didn't realise that you needed massive amounts of energy to do fusion and it takes the supernova death of stars to fusion anything heavier than iron. Hydrogen is just the tip of the fusion iceberg.
Yes, it most definitely can be said without Alchemy, we wouldn't have chemistry⚗️⚗️⚗️
@inusocials6295Mercury cocktail any one? It’ll definitely put hair on your chest and cure what ails ya.
I really enjoy watching all of your videos ❤ always amazing
I love your videos so much❤ thank you for many, wonderful hours of knowledge and fun❤❤❤
Great as always.
I loved alchemy… until my little brother and I tried to bring our deceased mother back to life.
That didn’t turn out so well. We did bring her back, kinda…
I lost a leg, and he lost his whole body so I had to bind his soul to an old suit of armor in exchange for one of my arms.
Don’t make the same mistake, folks!
Lunar "years" - i.e. one solar year (our year) = 12 lunar years. So a 50 solar year old man = 600 lunar years old.
Have yet to hear of a king or monarch (in history) who paid back any money he borrowed - you could even make a few videos on the most spendthrift medieval rulers, and there’d be still plenty of them left out. 😂😂
Yes, USA keeps printing T-bills, talk about alchemy! :~|
This was a very fine episode, with such an excellent ending!
As a chemist and physicist, I do like being a living history portrayer, using some of the ancient arts with my 250+ year old mortar and pestle, making electuariums to address maladies based on Humor theory. It's amazing how many folks like to come by telling me about their herbalist stuff.
It seems not to have occurred to kings, in their hour of need, that the true alchemy was spiritual, that the prima materia (lead) was a metaphor for shadow, gold for light. This makes sense to me, a kind of practical joke on people who try to use the spiritual layer for earthly layer ends.
🤔….the last of the great alchemists?
Sir Isaac Newton. 😳 yup, I think he even tried a few shots of mercury just to see what would happen.
Cool dude, no doubt.
"They believed in them and trusted them, having them come true was always a bonus." 😄 Nothing has changed in religion.
No pain pills in those○°○°○° days !☆
They did have poppy and willow
Tfw the guards imprison me for practicing alchemy without a license 😭😭😭
Anyone who can read the news and still think prophecy is superstition is lost.
Pretty sure the philosophers stone is made from distilling morning pee. The cult of the golden dawn held the secret
This is like the medeivel version of money flip scams. 😂
Why is it the Sorcerer's in America? I thought that was a Harry potter thing
It is. Man also doesn't know about Fullmetal Alchemist, which doesn't rename the Philosopher's Stone.
Yeah, in the US and never heard anyone refer to it as Sorcerer's Stone except for in the case of Harry Potter. All other media even uses Philosopher's Stone.
Oh, my God. It's a JOKE! Jesus...
@somerandomguy2073 well it flew completely over my head haha. Was actually curious if there was a legitimate reason for it haha
At first I heard John Cock instead of John Cobb lol
Sorry to say this, but as an American, we don’t say sorcerer stone Or at least I don’t know everybody that calls it that I know it as the philosopher Stone thought that was weird what you said in the beginning
Who cares what Americans think, its historically wrong so get over it and get over yourself.
Next week Tinder !!!
Some serious paintingshop lol 😂
Got to hide the leprosy and the pox
Americans didn't change the name of the stone. Your fellow countrywoman did. So chill with the quips
I'm an American, and its the philosophers stone. This isnt Harry Potter.
I was thinking the same thing😂😂
i got unsubscribed!!
Don’t use AI IMAGES. it looks cheap
That's enough for me to unsubscribe and then nope out 🏃🏼♂️
Thanks for tipping me off and I won't waste my time
Not only does it look cheap, but it's not historical. There is no accuracy. No historical value, nothing.
How do you even know they’re AI?
butthurt artist lmao
The speaker talks fast. The inflexion doesn't help!
I only scoff at medievals for trusting the church 😂
8:20 [The art of alchemy] also brought out a lot of scam artists…
???
How is it possible for an alchemist to be anything BUT a scam artist since it’s impossible to do any of the things they claimed to do?
First
Not first 😭 😭 😭 I’m shattered
Worst
Can we NOT do 6 second long musical loops? It's really distracting.
Nah, I didn’t even notice. Music is expensive anyway.
Can you not comment such a useless question
