COVID-19 In Bangladesh: Will Government Aid Reach The Poor In Time? | Insight | Full Episode

  • With the coronavirus pandemic hitting Bangladesh hard, millions of the country’s poor are slipping back into destitution. The health crisis coupled with the prospect of deglobalisation are already reversing much of the country's impressive gains in poverty reduction. Poverty in the country has now doubled from 21 to nearly 41 per cent.
The fallout is particularly devastating for the South Asian country's economy, which is disproportionately reliant on its global supply chains to keep its economy thriving. Its garment industry alone contributes about 16% of Bangladesh's GDP. With the effects of the pandemic hitting the nation hard, how bad is it likely to get? Can the nation's poor survive the onslaught of the pandemic? Will the government's stimulus package help improve the plight of the country's poor?

For me one of the BIGGEST factors in being stuck in poverty is having too many children than they can feed and send to school. But unfortunately based on CNA's track record of uploads, it is NEVER the parents fault when children aren't able to eat properly.
Personal responsibility, adults thinking about only having children when they know they can provide them the education they need to succeed in the future.
I guess for CNA common sense isn't something they like to talk about...let's say a family instead of having 5-8 children just had 1 or 2. Not changing the parent's current earnings, wouldn't those 1-2 children be better fed than if there where 5-8. How about savings? If the parent's only needed to feed 1-2 instead of 5-8 wouldn't they be able to afford a pen or a notebook or maybe even send their kid off to get educated in a school.
I am NOT saying having fewer kids guarantees the 1-2 kids automatically GET an education because that is not the case. BUT wouldn't having fewer mouths to feed be easier on the family budget? Wouldn't having fewer kids (again given the exact earnings the parents are getting) increase the chances of those fewer kids having an education and by having the education get more options to make their own future. And in turn those educated kids CAN help their parents out of their situation.

In December 1971 I was onboard a vessel that probably was the last one to leave Chittagong during the India - Pakistan war. Few weeks after we left the war was over and the nation, Bangladesh was born. We went to Singapore, a nation then into it's sixth year as an independent nation to wait until the war was over. Look at the two nations to day. Singapore being one of the worlds richest and most advanced nations, while Bangladesh, have they improved since independence? From what I can see and read for news media and others, I am not sure. Can corruption be the main reason for the difference? With Singapore being one of the worlds cleanest nations while Bangladesh is close to the bottom of the list?

I know I may sound mean. If you cant take it, please don't read.
As I see, life is a choice. You can choose to be single, you can choose to have a wife. You can choose to have a child, you can choose to be alive or dead. Dont blame others, while you make the choice. You know your are poor, you know your country are poor. You know you have no ability to earn more, then why create more and blame people cant give you enough? Is the matter of choice. We may think you are pity and deserve sympathy, but the feeling of struggle and hunger, is because your act of choice. I am 34 years old, I am not poor. I am single, and I don't have children. Because I have choice, and I choose it wisely. So even if anything happen, I have already save enough to walk me through years.

Why do these people keep having children when they don’t have a decent job in the first place. You have children that you can eat & be comfortable with. You don’t have one after the other then wonder how your going to feed them. Most are poor to start with then a pandemic comes along and they can’t eat. Think ahead have children when you have money to feed them.

"It is really difficult to manage a family of eight without proper income."
Those are the first words on the video...
Is there some sort of group out there putting a gun on people's heads and telling them to make more kids?
I mean, shouldn't you consider or at least care a little about bringing a life into this world? Or was it you are able to provide food, shelter, education, and a future for all your family members when you where just SEVEN?
What logical reason is there to have a bigger family if you cannot take care of a smaller one. Shouldn't it be easier to take care of say a family of 4 or 5 compared to a family of 8? If you can only afford 2 kids right now, why make more?

There is a historical reason to it, bangladesh being a third world country its still lives on agricultural sector, which means a father needs more sons to help him doing the field work, plus he cannot afford to have any farming instrument.
The society is such where the children live with their parents and its a common notion that you will take care of your children and, when they grow up, they will take care of you!A girl child is thought to be a burden to be married off some day!
So they keep on reproducing till they get a male child increasing the population even further.
Slowly i guess they are realising this and the population is going down.

This must have been filmed a few months back.
The situation is pretty much back to normal now. BD will post postive growth in 2020 despite the pandemic, which is way more than neighbouring countries. India was -23.0% in the previous quarter, so surely the situation is worse there in terms of impact on the poor?
The poor people featured in this video were poor before the pandemic struck and is a familiar story across BD. Sadly poverty of this level will remain for some time yet, but the good news BD is one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Employment opportunities will increase.

America: atleast they GET aid from their government.

    • @bdale8102
      @bdale8102 3 года назад

Correction: the companies, businesses and sectors of society that are recipients of this “assistance “ are the same ones every time and they are carefully chosen behind closed doors well ahead of the “need” at the approval and behest of those at the “helm”.
You’ll be called a crazy conspiracy theorist if you say this like I just did: openly and without files of “proof”.
Recipients of help also follow a hierarchy (or pecking order) which begins with the “hand greasers” behind the scenes, then the corporations and companies belonging to or connected with the families of the elites which will either “produce a good or service” or in some way benefit from the first outpouring of “help”.
Then the “help” filters down through the seive to the next level needing “help”.
Everyone predetermined gets a piece of the pie.
There may be a few “unchosen” recipients which is always accounted for.
When it finally hits its well advertised target of recipients you will find they are very often those who lean heavily on the government system to begin with in order to suck out a daily existence.
Their votes are bought at this point.
Whoever gives the gravy gets their vote.
As if voting was all it is cracked up to be in the first place.
To end: America is quite ok with letting people starve anywhere on earth unless there’s something in it for the secret hierarchy that makes up the Freemason based governing system behind the scenes.
We’re so close to the last day of the age of the earth i don’t mind the backlash from anything I post these days.
      Hope you know Jesus.
Hope you make it to heaven.
