    I am in Fort Myers FL zone 10a. I have 2 blueberries, 2 black raspberries, 2 gooseberries, 1 mango, 1 coconut palm, 2 bananas, and recently 50 strawberry crowns, 4 varieties. Also 2 small lime bushes. I just cut open a store bought papaya for the first time. Good lord, now I'm thinking of growing a papaya. That thing has a ton of seeds. This is a Mexico type, huge fruit. Wonders what the little ones taste like? I almost forgot to include mini canaloupe and mini watermelon for the first time. This gardening thing is growing on me, lol. I have my blueberries in 18 gallon pots so far. A Pink Lemonade and a high bush that I bought from a Labelle Blueberry farm. New growth buds are everywhere. Yay! Thank you for your videos.

    Hi: Just another point of mixing your blueberry varieties. The blooming timing most be similar for cross-pollination. An early variety and a late will bloom in different times and will not benefit from cross-pollination. So maybe out of the four plants two different early varieties and two late will do the magic and you will blueberries for a longer period.

      Blueberries can take full sun but do need acidic soil, you can plant them in a container with acidic soil or you can modify the ground soil around where you plan to plant, however a container will be more successful most likely. Mid-December to mid-February is the best time to plant them

At the beginning you said that Blueberry plants require a lot of acidity. But the amendments you listed were low acid. ??? What am I not understanding here?

    • @TheUrbanHarvest
      @TheUrbanHarvest  2 года назад +1

      Acid is on a pH scale. The lower the number the more acidic it is. Ideally your soil pH should be close to 5.0.

  • @ronhart4166
    @ronhart4166 4 года назад

    I have had problems the last two seasons trying to find different varieties of blueberries !! So my experience growing them has been 😩 One thought I had about your mix was why do you not use your oak tree leaves instead of pine bark ? As a landscaper I plant a lot of Azalea's near oak trees which are a high acidity plant also. Or is it for aerating the roots ?

    • @TheUrbanHarvest
      @TheUrbanHarvest  4 года назад +3

      The oak leaves break down wonderfully & I will often use that as a mulch if I don't have pine needles around. I like the bark in the beginning for aeration. But growing plants is more like art than a science so lots of materials can be used depending on whats on hand.

      @audreywy1743 it's proportional. "1 part" and "2 parts" can refer to any SIZE amount. If you put 1 teaspoon of something, then put 2 teaspoons of the other. If you put 1 cup, do 2 cups. 1 barrel to 2 barrels...1 truck to 2 trucks....etc...etc...

      There are a ton of varieties that do great here, I haven't found one to do outstanding compared to the others, they all grow great here! You could start from seed but it is no easy task. The cost of both of the bushes is usually not that much so its worth the plant cost for these in my opinion. Yes they can be grown just fine in pots.
