Personally, I much prefer my DSi XL to my Switch but it all depends what games you are in the mood for. If it's Pokemon - the DSi can give you gen 1 through gen 5. If you go 3DS you can have gen 1 to 7 on it...but image quality for the DS titles is not quite as good as the DSi XL.
True, the 3DS emulation of DS games gives a 2x interpolation that blurs a lot of details trying to stretch the image to fit it into the display, it is so better playing on native hardware
I just picked up the super Mario 25th anniversary DSI XL for 82 bucks after tax and I'm having a lotta fun. Only have 3 games so far, Mario kart DS, mx vs atv reflex and call of duty black ops

Just bought a used one on eBay for $60 never even used one before so i was curious if was better than anbernic or powkitty x55 I've been using for work trips up north. The one i ordered was red with some Mario graphics in the right corner. Kinda disappointed that after i bought the online store was immediately closed. Probably should have researched that from the get-go

With an SD card you can mod your dsi xl in few minutes without flashing the firmware. Take a look on youtube!
