    Went to high school with Jason and Billy. They played in our cafeteria. We could see them every few weeks at the ritz on 6th st. I was known as Wretch! Ah the good old 80's! 4 or 5 shows every week. Punk and metal. Everyone knew that Billy was more than just a metal guitarist! He was truly gifted! Very soft spoken and very humble. Jason was just an all around good guy. Always trying to promote the band. I remember they plyed at lake house and we destroyed the inside ohf the house!

    This one is just so incredibly special. I remember Billy talking about a project before the Don D. thing he was considering the name Chimera I think? JJ Johnson was the original drummer in Blind Date. Those were some big shoes I had to "try" and fill. I was even just a little bit younger kid than you guys, and lucky enough to go to a couple Tower rehearsals. First time I ever saw musicians (especially a metal band) writing notation as they were writing rehearsal. The shows, the memories, the nostalgia. My heroes, my friends. Having lived through and around some of these stories in some small way, you guys were an inspiration for me as an 18 year old kid. For those who know, know how truly unique and surreal it is and was. What an honor and a privilege to have witnessed. My absolute favorite episode. Congrats, and thank you brothers. -Deej

      Metallica are a garage band of mediocre to poor musicians who got big because non musicians who don’t have an ear for quality musicianship bought their albums . Their hardcore fans were just stoners who spent their life wearing black jeans , shoes and t shirts but didn’t have a clue about music . At the end of the day you could say well good on Metallica , they made it big and are rolling in cash but I hear what your saying , it’s hard to watch that happen while quality musicians struggle away .

    • @talklouderpodcast4537
      @talklouderpodcast4537  Год назад +1

      @@deanwitt7903 With due respect, I think you’re oversimplifying the individual and collective talents and tenacity of Metallica. Yes, they’re a band of garage urchins who never dreamed of their historical success, but they work hard at their craft and beat all odds with their brand of music. They definitely didn’t follow any recipe for success and I’d argue that James and Cliff are/were very creative and talented musicians and songwriters. Lars played a crucial role in their sound and was an absolute pit bull when it came to legwork and self-promotion. Kirk kept the band moving when Mustaine was dismissed. Nothing but respect from me. There will always be talented bands that didn’t “make it.” That’s the nature of the biz. Watchtower was one of those bands. Appreciate your thoughts and always enjoy a healthy discussion. Thanks for checking us out. - Dave
