Episode 225
Nick Bowcott
He promised to “See You in Hell” in 1983 and we all welcomed the warning with horns held high. Grim Reaper guitarist Nick Bowcott joins us to discuss his heavy metal heyday; his post-Reaper career as a music columnist and gear brand ambassador; his audition for Iron Maiden (pre-Dennis Stratton); how a broken leg paid for his first guitar (his signature Union Jack Yamaha); his friendship with Dimebag Darrell; a memorable chat with Randy Rhoads; why he shaved his head; and that time Dave Grohl surprised him by naming a deep cut as his favorite Grim Reaper song. You will not meet a more passionate, heavy metal lifer.

British Steel is undeniably a cornerstone - the guitar tones are superb. Great songs.
Excellent job fellas - respect coming from SoCal
@@joerectifier Thanks for checking it out!
These 3 fellas that work with Ace make the band what it is - Ace has his iconic solos and songs but he needs a strong anchor around him and folks to keep him in the track so to speak. Coogan can sing his fricken ass off and is a terrific drummer and Jeremy also sings very well and plays very well - excellent tone and understanding of how to keep Ace reeled in 🙂
His firebird or reverse firebird or whatever it is - the blue sparkle one - is an excellent relative color next to Ace's Les Paul. It gives the band's sound a depth and dimension to the mix. Great call!
"Man, I think I got the wrong house...."
Excellent interview fellas - I respect Whip for his longevity, his playing and his calm and humble demeanor.
@@joerectifier Thank you. And thanks for checking it out! 🤘
I gotta say Jason you done awsome on the live dirty looks album
Its 2 bad Geoff Tate isn't with the Band anymore.....there total crap now.
@@G.I.N.N Nah. Total respect to Geoff, but Todd has done an amazing job. “Digital Noise Alliance” is a great album and the others hold their own as well. Still going strong.

Great episode! Both Todd La Torre episodes are very entertaining
Thanks. He's always a great guest!
Whip is a total legend. He's written /co written some of the best progressive rock music out there.
I love this podcast so much and this was another exceptional episode. I think this is the only podcast that a frequently pause, go look up and listen to songs referenced, and then come back. Keep it up!

Great show!! Conjures many great memories!
I'm sorry but Dangerous Toys never got to play Poughkeepsie, NY. In 1989 you guys were on tour with Tora Tora and L.A. Guns and it got canceled. I did see you guys in Middletown, NY on the Operation Rock and Roll tour.
I live in the Fort Wayne (Sweetwater) area and have been fortunate to interact with Nick multiple times at local shows! Really great dude…awesome episode!
can't wait for the episode!!!
Am I really the only one here from The Reckoning?
Saw the Hell’s Heros show. No exaggeration, the Warning set touched the old school folk! First saw Queensryche on that Rage for Order tour
saw them open for KISS the first time 1984? waco tx during a snowstorm. 3hr drive from ft hood lol. melted the next day 1hr drive back. fun times!!

Saw them for the first time on the Warning tour opening for KISS on the Animalize tour 🤘🤘🤘 Another Classic Show Guys 🤘🤘🤘
I just watched 2+ hours of Tracii Guns interview from y'all 🤘🤘🤘
Thank you!
I just discovered you guys' channel. First one is Tracii f'in Guns!!! I agree he's 💯under rated but the man is so humble, he deserves much more. I always go see L.A. Guns when they come to Canyon Club and of course The Whisky.
@@0utlaw13 Thanks for finding us! Spread the word. 🤘
@@talklouderpodcast4537 You got it!
Another bad ass interview…
Whip is killer
Tracii said he doesn't have anyone around him to question anything. No one to give input, advice, direction... Simply no real producer. Talks about it's all recorded at home nowadays, no rush. That all seems cool to so it on your own time and take as much time as you think is needed. However, the more I listen to recoded music released the past 15 years or so, it's trash. Perhaps bands need thst addition input. Perhaps the pressure you feel in an expensive studio adds value. Whatever it is, music has become less balanced and it basically is garbage compared to the 20th century.
I'd say that within the next 25 years, AI will have officially become the death knell of native intelligence as we know it. Kids born today will barely be able to string three coherent sentences together on a bet at age 25 . They will know it to be wrong, because some of us will still be around to not let them forget it, and yet the "work smarter, not harder" mindset in we humans will justify it by that very comfortable and convenient tenent. Cognitive dissonance will ultimately fuck us. But if I can ask AI to take Blizzard of Ozz and Diiary of a Madman and create a third Blizzard of Ozz band record, I could probably learn to adapt.
People make choices, people have ideas. A machine cannot create an idea on its own, it has no choice. I have dabbled with AI to storybook an idea, but its not the means to an end.. its just an idea. Its up to you to make it human and worthwhile.
I did artwork for a friend's book and he's going to put out another book.. All his study materials have AI graphics so I told him if he's going to put an AI cover on the next one, I wanted my cover replaced so it wasn't in a bookstore next to AI art... I was really intimidated by it but now that I've been able to sit with it for a while, I think AI stuff will be a cheesy look/sound people will declare the 2020s aesthetic and anyone who uses it now will have art that won't age well and be cringe in 10-15 years.. We're just amazed by it because it's something we haven't seen before. Reminds me of that hologram art that people would line up in the malls to see.. Was looking for one of those pieces recently and you can't find them.. Or those things you'd stare at to see another picture inside the picture.. And omg.. Tarot cards are a problem with AI right now.. about half of them will do everything to bury that they made them with AI.. I appreciate if someone will just come out and say it.. if they bury it, I assume the reference materials are ChatGPT and move on without any consideration... have no interest in garbled Wiki pages.. AI is going to be ruined by scammers flooding the internet.. Those too good to be true photos, the chatgpt script videos, the art.. it all has a 'je ne sais quoi' vibe to it that now screams scam.. It should be a tool, but too many 'get rich quick scam' types out there... I saw some quote basically saying, "AI isn't creating art, it's the avoidance of creating art.." BUT.. I have interviews by people who will use AI and their reference material for the database is only their own work.. Depending on the project, I feel like that could be legit...
@@MrsTinoGirl Love your perspective of AI art being viewed as dated one day. Hadn’t thought of that, but it seems reasonable. Kinda like the spandex of art.
@talklouderpodcast4537 I laughed when I read that.. still have some of mine around somewhere.. and some parachute pants.. think they'll make a comeback some day.. 🫠
Yet another great episode! "All this machinery making modern music can still be open hearted - and not so coldly charted it's really just a question of your honesty." Too true, and even though AI is here to stay it still has to be manipulated by a human being. You steer it. I've ran email campaigns and created slide show presentations for work using AI and every time - not some times, every single time there are grammar errors and misspellings. Run on sentences that don't make sense. You 100% of the time have to proofread and correct. Notice with AI generated art - a hand will have seven fingers or there will be weird overlaps elsewhere in the art. If you look hard you can tell. Maybe, just maybe if it is used lightly as a tool it will be no more harmful than a book of synonyms, a rhyming dictionary (which could be perceived as cheating in itself) or an ADAT tape from years gone by. Don't get me wrong, I dislike it as much as the fact that whole songs are composed with the press of a button but as long as we retain the human element in art, we will be okay and will have yet another device to use at our disposal if we choose to.
@@jeffmartin8641 As you (and Rush) say, it’s really just a question of your honesty. 😁
@@talklouderpodcast4537 <3
This was a great conversation! I'm not OK with people claiming AI produced songs and images are their own creations. If you put in the actual work, you don't need to fake your accomplishments. As a visual artist, I love answering questions such as, "How did you come up with the idea?" or "How did you do that?" and "Who or what inspires you?" You can't get that interaction with AI. It can't explain the brushstrokes, the colors or the artists' message for example. Unfortunately, people will continue to use it as it's more or less free. Now, I'm off to check out more of the awesome artwork by Claudio.
@@Loupons_Art Thank you, thank you and thank you. Claudio is amazing and your points in favor of human creativity are entirely valid.
This guy is so cool. Love him too Jason! Great episode.
McMASTER mUSHROOMS?
Bob Daisley is the reason Ozzy is even there, He should have mentioned all the People that were involved, Max Norman, they do not want Rudy because he quit, Robert is the SCAB that rerecorded Bob Daisley bass parts, Sharon is a Greedy Cunt, even Delores had to go back to court because Ozzy and Sharon were not being fair and honest about money, Rock n Roll hall of Shame, it is bullshit, we need to make our own Music Hall of Fame, Jan S. Thank you, for Mentioning The Blizzard of Oz Band,
RRHF has no credibility. And don’t care about it and I hope non of my heroes were there because it is a fucking joke. I hope Maiden never gets in.
Jelly Roll is mostly a country artist now and has some cool stuff. His voice is cool!
@@geraldduncanduncan1874 We’re more familiar with his “celebrity” than his music.
I love it when yall talk about stuff like this. Keep it up guys!
When are we as a rock n roll community going to finally get to the point of no longer giving two fucks about the RRHOF in name only? Jelly Roll, Maynard, and EVH's son but no Bob Daisley and Jake E. Lee? A band like Iron Maiden should take a no induction status in the RRHOF in name only as a badge of honor. I can't be bothered by what they do with Ozzy now and neither should you! Sharon turned him into a horse's ass with the TV show and has done nothing but tarnish his legacy ever since. Grab your Tribute record and crank it. 🎉
@@chadmooreofficial Agreed. The whole point of the episode was to pay respect to those who were purposely left out.
Amen
@talklouderpodcast4537 I clocked that man. Well done. Just making a statement toward those who think the world is just going to end if _____ doesn't get into the RRHOF in name only, while professing to fly the flag of hard rock/ heavy metal. BTW, if we are supposed to accept NWA, Jay-Z, Missy Elliot, and Tupac as rock n roll, then when do we see Ozzy, Metallica, Priest and Sabbath nominated for BET Hip Hop Awards? How could one not see the glaring parallel between Hetfield and Nikki Minaj? 🎉
@ Ufff! Let’s not make it worse. 🤣
@talklouderpodcast4537 😆
Foreigner was robbed as well. Lou was the only one that could make the event - the rest of the current band who didn’t record any of their primary albums is who did the bulk of the performance with mostly guest singers. Lou got part of one song with Kelly Clarkson. Poor Mick Jones, who really is the founder, was at home unable to travel.
Another band that should've been honored decades ago.
there was not a lot of good other than he at least knew that Randy Rhoads was vital to his success post Sabbath, He could have come clean on it being a band and he should have shouted out: Dana Strum, Bob Daisley, Lee Kerslake, Jake E Lee For the Osbournes to think it was a good idea to exploit Jake's shooting by posting a link to Bark at the Moon under the guise it was a tribute to Jake was despicable since he does not get paid on that song or album they robbed him
The Tortoise And The Leftist. Leftists are those who would see an endangered tortoise somehow flipped onto its back and unable to right itself. So the leftist goes up to the tortoise and flips it over, then walks away, putting a tortoise emoji on their social media username and talking for weeks about how they saved an innocent tortoise's life. The tortoise walks two steps forward and is [censored] by a cluster mine placed by the ukraine for ukrainian children to find in the future. The leftist says "sorry I didn't know, I tried to do what's right." The leftist didn't observe the situation and recognize it for what it was, instead of doing their due diligence to ensure an outcome where the tortoise would be saved and their efforts wouldn't be in vain, they only acted in a manner that made them feel immediately better about themselves. The leftist inevitably apologizes and cries afterwards as though their crocodile tears and false sympathy has value - truly it's self-recrimination and self-disdain that they're feeling but they performatively act as though they're empathizing with those they made victims by their ineffectual actions.
