#Suunto7 #WearOS #Suunto - Спорт
I owned Casio Protrek F30 and all this OS and functions remind me so much to my watch. Bet it will drain battery in no time as well
I love some of the things Suunto do, especially their dive watches, but this doesn’t seem to be anything for someone to get excited about. I really want them to give Garmin some real competition but I can’t see this being it.
Thank you for your video Ray. Excellent as always.
Great preview Ray! 2 things for me: no external sensors and the price! For $500 that watch better have "superb" GPS and optical heart rate accuracy. The screen looks great though. Waiting for you FULL review.......
no external sensors and no customizable pages. no and no. its like note having basic features, like polar did with their vantage bricks
Suunto makes a great dive watch and has been big in military use for over a decade now. no problem with brand identity at all for Suunto.
Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. YMMV. www.suuntodivecomputersettlement.com/
I'll just leave this here:
Garmin Venu battery: 5 days £299
Garmin fénix 6x battery: 21 days £649
Nice work on the vid man! Love how comprehensive you are across the fitness industry!!
From Garmin's Fenix 6 page: "15 hours in GPS mode"
@@HomoSSapiens the battery is phenomenal! Can even extend it with different modes.
@@thestamsvideoproduction7427 My point is that you were comparing 21 days to 2 days, when the reality is you should be comparing 15hrs GPS on the Garmin to 12hrs GPS on the Suunto.
@@HomoSSapiens 1.well did you take into account all the variables that would impact each of those numbers?
No one is running for 15 hours, majority of that time is, watch is sat on your wrist monitoring your movement and recording data, Providing feedback on HR.
So I think the day count is definitely relative. No one runs around with GPS on all day long.
@@thestamsvideoproduction7427 Ah, there's our disconnect. I'm not as curious about my HR / movement / recorded data if I'm not performing an activity, so the extra battery life there is not a selling point for me.
I often track activities that will nudge up on the 12hr life of the Suunto - 30mi+ hikes, ski mountaineering missions (where the cold takes some life off), day-long bike rides, etc.
Given those realities, and that I'm able to get a killer discount on Suunto, 3hrs of extra GPS isn't worth 3x the cost, for me.
Hail Mary by Suunto. I had their Ambit3 Peak and once they dropped support (for the most part), I sold it and haven't looked back.
Yay, Suunto made another Android Wear Smartwatch! There are already hundreds of Android Wear Smartwatches on market. All have very similar specs. Suunto does itself no favor with this move imho, cause Android Wear is still after so many years very limited when it comes to fitness data collecting.
I´ll stick with Garmin forever then. My Suunto Traverse was nice though, but the Android App is horrible. Oh, and battery life: Android Wear is still so bad at power management (also with the new Qualcomm 3100 chipset; I´d suggest this Suunto 7 will last a max. of 12h with full display brightness level enabled).
@@ohio i know that. I've had one of the very first Android Wear Smartwatches (LG G Watch R). Google made this imho stupid move to call the OS "Wear OS" but its basically the same garbage with just slight improvements since the watch i had...
Looks great. Suunto really needs to give it the ability to pair to sensors.
You can pair to sensors on any Wear OS watch with external apps.
@@xenon5493 but can you use those sensors with the Suunto app? If not, then you lose the benefit of the Suunto 7 vs any other Android Wear watch
@@JoshRivner AFAIK no. They said when someone asked them that question they said they were looking to add it in a later update.
A great addition to the Suunto family. However my Ambit3 Peak is the best for me. I forget all about charging and it fits all my runner's needs perfectly. Outstanding performance and functions!
Dude, you’re a beast. Keep up the good work! I always look forward to new tech and great reviews! 🏃🤙
Thanks!!!
It's true. The videos and the website are great. Thanks for doing a great job and specially that part of "Garmin Lineup for Dummies".
DC Rainmaker - The MKBHD of sports tech
Thank you so much for this review! I used to love and own Suunto watches for many years until Apple came out and switched. Still not convinced why I should go back to Suunto. What is Suunto trying to achieve? Beautiful design, however not convincing.
This is a big gamble for Suunto. I remember Polar tried to hit a homerun with WearOS on the M600. That didnt do to great considering that they never followed up on that one. Hope Suunto will do better, but i am affraid that its success strongly depends on WearOS apps getting better in 2020 (yes SPOTIFY.. you need to allow Offline songs on WearOS.. And yes Google Pay.. we need more countries where we can use this function). If Garmin decides on an AMOLED Forerunner in 2020 (with good battery life.. tad better than the Venu), it will be a gigantic stab in the market.
One counter intuitive tip for battery life on Wear OS.
Turn always ON display on and turn gestures wake OFF.
Also, in the past a bluetooth HRM could be connected through the settings in Google Fit.
Suunto d5 for diving is great just used it today
Suunto seems to lack any coherent strategy at this point. They were clearly targeting certain market in the past, wondered towards mainstream and now just google wear? Not to mention the lack of saveable date for long term analysis on most of their watches.
Suunto is grabbing at anything to be relevant again.
Robert Naus i sell Suunto in Finland. They had a record year in sales 2019 :D So not sure about a decline...
@jimmy salo i didnt say anything about decline, i merely comment of lack of direction, but maybe Google wear is way to go as the whole market is on the rise as more and more features are added in.I wear Suunto 3 fitness myself and i switched from Garmin. That being said, after so many years Suunto app and their data recording is still way behind others.
@@sauliniinisto5779 Maybe Finland. There's zero way they had a "record breaking" year in the US.
Casey in total sales worldwide. China is the main reason
I think the desscion to WearOS is wrong. Google dosent understand Wearables and try to adopt a pure android to a smwartwatch. These qualcom 3100 is an old chipset with a huge battery drain.
Smartwatches will be great in 10 years when they last longer than a day. I had a galaxy watch which claims 4 days and as soon as you do any activity with GPS, the battery is done. Love the screens etc but had to get a fenix 6 cos function wise as a fitness watch they're a pain in the ass. Plus Sapphire wont scratch as much!
Simon Hobden I’m looking forward to seeing how Garmin can develop the solar charging tech that they introduced on the Fenix 6 range. If that can really add some battery life in future versions that could be incredibly appealing.
I realise making these watches is hard so I don't want to be too harsh. But this thing does not even compete with the Vivoactive range as far as I can see. Battery life poor. No customisable data screens. No sensor data, not even external HR. No multisport.
Really sad that they can't better compete with Garmin.
I've had a few problems with garmin watches but non with my new Suunto Spartan Sport Baro.
My experiences with Polar and Suunto were great but not with Garmin. This does not necessarily mean anything but maybe Garmin does not pay that much attention to other things.
For the record: I have had 2 Garmins, 1 Polar and 2 Suuntos.
Vivoactive supports sensor pairing and multisport?
The battery is quite lacking. What I find interesting is the specifications of this watch on Suunto's website. Under the heart rate section, it states heart rate can be gathered by wrist heart monitor or heart rate strap. Because this isn't the final product, I won't if they haven't added it yet. It seems like they have plans for it to have sensors.
As long as it tells me the right time I would choose it over the girlie watches from apple.
I cant believe no pairing with sensors. Wow. And why old model is Suunto 9 and new model Suunto 7? Doing my head in.
Thanks for the review. I'm currently using vivoactive 3 for almost 3 years and will be looking for a new device in November.
Suunto looks interesting and I would be interested tu o buy Suunto 7 if not the lack of connectivity to external sensors, lack of data syncing with Suunto App. and poor accuracy of sensors.
If all those issues will be addresses, I would consider buying it in November.
Will you be making a review video of the Suunto 7. Will like to hear your opinion on the final product with good proper sport testing.
I must be missing something. This watch does not give anything that my £90 Mobvoi Tickwatch E2 doesn't? Thanks for the video.
Like the suunto spartan ... beta product not ready for market just yet.
Has this improved any with software updates?
Since it's Wear OS, you can set it to Always On Display in the settings! 👍
You can't in suunto 7
@@kalandarism really... Wow.
@@funkyjohnhuie it's most battery consuming watch. They made it to fill the apple watch space on Android side. It's durable but it's not worth
Well the screen looks much better than my D5. Hope they update the screen on the D5 in the future.
So basically, it's a phone you wear on your wrist, but without the phone part? 😂
It has lot of potential imho, looks like the app is barely ready, they will probably add a ton of things down the road, I think also the next device on the same platform will do better, now they are just doing the dirty work. Kind reminds me of the first Fenix
Thank you for doing this video. My first source for all things tech+running. I've been a Samsung Galaxy Watch user for a while who runs with a Garmin Fenix 3. Looking for that bridging device.
Strange that some of the metrics are only available on Google Fit and not on Suunto native app. I double checked this on the M600 and sure enough, steps are counted in both apps (or synced) without issues.
Awesome intro to the Suunto 7! Do you know if it has a paragliding as one of the sports mode? Suunto is an official sponsor of the X-Alps.
Maybe I missed it, but if they are using a Qualcomm processor and Google is going to continue to do the bare minimum , seems like a bad move.
Polar Vantage V or Suunto 7? Any suggestion? Thank you!
What is the best smartwatch for trail running?
For mountaineers, hikers, backpackers and other adventurers 12h on GPS mode is a big No-No. They should still make watches like the good Old Ambit3Peak. Nice review btw 👍
To be fair, if you're doing any of those activities then you don't need a smartwatch. You're better served by a specialised watch.
They have a new watch S9 you can tweak it to get 42 hours GPS in 1 second recording or use fused trac and go upto 120 hours - also super easy to charge on the go with a USB charger
I like this watch. Iv always preferred Garmin. But I have to say this one looks promising.
2-days battery and no sensors? Is Suunto jealous of Strava?
Simply love this review. Simply love the level of detail. Now with the Qualcomm 4100 rocking on the Ticwatch Pro 3 I'm really keen to see if there is any ounce of fitness tracking ability in it. Will you ever review the Tickwatch pro 3?
Local watch storage like garmin would greatly improve suunto. Im hoping the suunto dive watch crosses over without the big bill like mark dive.. Their suunto dive is inexpensive and handy. Similar sound and wireless is underrated in reviews.
This is timely my wife needs a new watch her garmin 235 not syncing i have the suunto 9 its probably too much watch for her this looks promising as she was contemplating the 245m or apple watch
Great video. Lackluster watch. This product feels DOA to me.
Interested to see how the GPS performance of the Qualcomm stacks up against the Sony chipset everyone has been using.
My experience of the Sony was really lacklustre. I returned two 245s since they were noticeably less accurate than my old watch.
Is it possible to calibrate the Suunto 7 to a treadmill run after the run is complete?
This watch is nearly there.
I'll skip it for the polished version next year.
Don't like that they've hooked up with Google Wear, but OK then.
Hate that the fitness is controlled by Google and it was sad to hear DC say there are some lost functions in the Suunto OS.
Battery seems terrible, why they can't do what Garmin Fenix 6x Pro can do is surprising.
My 6x Pro gets 22 days out of a battery. Maybe a day or two less when I'm workingnout, but that's just super awesome battery wise for a smart watch.
Looking forward to the 000s of Suunto7 reviews to bombard us in the coming weeks 😎
I like it! It adds stuff Suunto were just so far behind today's market in like on board music and contactless payments. You get a full blown smart watch now too BUT some hefty drawbacks in there like the battery life, no sensor pairing and the biggest one for me here is the inability to change the data screens. Those are very personal to each person
I've received this watch today. So far it's really good. However....can you play Spotify offline (without my phone) or is this not possible?
Looks intriguing shame about the battery life but I suppose you have to expect that for this type of watch. TBH it's largely what I've been looking for a decent sports watch that has google pay. I'll wait for the full review and then give it 6/12months for the software to mature.
What about sensors, microphone and speakerphone? What is the Wear OS platform? 3100 or 3300?
Great insight! Will wait for full review on this.. And Fenix 6S if possible 😅
Shouldn't compare this to the fénix 🤤. fénix 6s is a beast!
Two diferent types of devices. My Fenix 6x is great for fitness and exercise but it is not a smartwatch. Wear OS can control a car or your house lights. Alarm, temp Ect...
Is the display always on with HR? If so how long will battery last?
So, the battery life is good in Suunto mode (12 hours gps) but poor in WearOS mode (less than two days). Some of this is a ‘smartwatch’ issue - Apple Watch has similar stats, but the AW is pretty tiny - this looks a bit chunkier.
Really nice. It just has a few misses for the price.
If this watch also had Hiking-specific GPS features, it would already be on my wrist.
I stopped watching the video as soon as soon said no senor pairing, Sad because i need to replace my Garmin Fenix 5 and this may have been a good option. But with no sensor pairing not an option at all.
Just go with Suunto9. I think you won't be disappointed.
Exactly my thought. What the heck was Suunto thinking about, when designing this watch? I mean, until now, Suunto watches have always been about sport in a right type of way. Without the hr strap every aspect of this watch looses it's importance, because the correct hr is the key for recording accurate data. Someone should be fired in Suunto.
Hi Ray. I'm super interested in this. Polar M600 was unwearable to me. Is the watch relatively comfortable to wear? Also, if you are using one of Suunto's watch faces are those not always on? Or do you have to touch the screen to see the watch? I thought I read in their manual that their watch faces are very low power and that you would not need the always on display. Thanks!
The Polar M600 and Wear OS doesn’t stay connected to iOS Apple iPhones. I’ve also heard of other Polar watches are having this issue. Ignite and Vantage. Maybe Suunto went to Google but it seems that Apple hates Google
Smart watch? Sunto? When and why?
Is there any way to follow a route? Like following a GPX in a hike?
How do you compare this to the Garmin Fenix 6 ...??
I'd like to know which of you is currently thinking and has to choose between the Suunto 7 and Fenix 6 Pro?
I am really unsure.
I see wear os and walk right back out of the store. Google abandons so many things and doesn't optimize anything other than searches and data selling. The workout/ weight lifting app was one of my favorite things about wear os and i thought it was done well. That's the end of the line though. Wear os just doesn't work. Garmin has my money. If i had an iPhone I'd probably have an apple watch... maybe. Garmin wins with their battery life and sports data.
Any idea if the Suunto 9 baro is getting an update soon? Seems like suunto is refreshing their product line and the current 9 and 9 baro are on sale.
can I control the watch without using the touch screen?
Hi. Nice video sir. Of topic, the new stratos 3, suppose to have firstbeat and a new 4 satellite Sony chip. Something you can see what it's about?
Does this show the barometer and altimeter graphs like on the Suunto 9 Baro?
First good vid about the watch, thank you
I don't understand why they are releasing this watch before the Snapdragon 3300 is available. They cannot do anything about the battery life with the 3100.
Thanks for the video! I think I will get the watch to see if I could use it instead of the apple watch. I find it refreshing that they'll try something new, especially if they can make the wear os do the things they want!
The watch has rowing profile?
haha, you can say it! :)
Suunto had the Prime back in AMbit days..after spartan they fail big time and start go down..:)
And google is good, but to bad weraOS is so far behind so 99% make the watch sux..battery is one thing they never get solid. :)
Enjoy your videos...do you have eta for a review fothe Suunto 7?
I was hype until 12:40 . Man Sunnto just dropped a huge bomb on what could have been the best device of 2020. Like no sleep metrics or nothing? Google Fit sucks. It should have been called something different than Suunto 7. More like Suunto Wear.
they'll fix this...i hope
@@KirkSutton They can't fix the FirstBeat portion. That's made in stone.
@@Witcherworks I was thinking they would develop these features in house to replace.
@@KirkSutton True I agree but will it be the same? Who knows. I've been pretty happy with firstbeats stuff and the only close comparison I've seen is Polar.
Can i buy garmin fenix 5 in 2020? It is good?
I like how it looks, but that's about it. My Active 2 is 1/2 the cost, but does about 10x more. There's something for everyone I guess, great review though. $650 and no speaker? Oh my.
Great run through.
Will MyFitnessPal be available on this watch? Will Suunto finally connect with MFP?
So it's no where near the fenix 6x?
So, still nothing better than the Ambit 3 then?
I have just bought a Suunto 9 baro, anyone could suggest me if is better change with Suunto 7?
I'm in new in gps smartwatches and I need especially for using maps during outdoor or city ciclyng Thank you so much
Hi, is this suunto 7 has the resource , 12 hours , sleep tracking like the suunto 3fitness? Thanks !
This watch really misses the mark for everyone. So much more expensive ($799AUD) than smart watch competitors (apple, samsung, etc (about$500AUD)), and missing lots of basic fitness features like multisport, sensors, customisable data pages, etc. I can't see any informed buyer buying this over a garmin or apple/samsung.
It's a good start. I'm on a lookout for a competent sports watch with Google Pay enabled.
How about thermometer? just barometer?
Suunto always kinda gets it wrong. They'd be great, but with 2 days battery...naah. Other than that it's a great watch and I have nothing against Wear OS either.
Are there Wear OS watches with significantly higher battery life? If no, why is everyone surprised and mad at Suunto? They just delivered a product with standard specs on this platform.
@@gtom84 Not really. And I love Suunto but they could have chosen their own OS for more battery. (that is of course a sacrifice of native Wear OS apps) 12 hrs battery is not that bad either. But if you look at price, no sensors and the above, something just doesn't check out well.
Does suunto 7 have sleep tracking
The layout of a 4 button watch from Suunto seems weird. And to top it off as it runs via an AMOLED screen, a 2 day usage seems ludicrous - even the Garmin Venu that runs on an AMOLED screen gives you a 5 day usage.
Bottom line, if you are intending to use this watch for a ultra marathon, then you're better of getting a 9 series. But if you want to get this watch because of a Wear OS, there are many other brands out there that is has a way better looking appearance than this.
Dude I might get this. This is like the spiritual successor to the Nixon "Mission" watch except more stylish and more functional.
Sounds like it could be a great watch, BUT the battery life is disappointing. I'm not into multi sports, but I do run a few Ultramarathons and 12 hours on the gps is highly problematic. My old Garmin FR 235 lasted 8 hours, so I switched to a 935 which has a 24 hour battery life on gps. I have just sent back my second 935, Garmin finally replaced my original in November 2019, and will send me a 945 next week. I am seriously looking at other brands, such as Polar and Suunto, but not the 7 if it only has a 12 hour battery life.
No sensor support? No steps, sleep etc. health tracking within their own app? Loving the hardware in terms of design, especially the copper edition but everything else is a big let down. I'm sticking to my Garmin FR645M, it has everything integrated and supported that I need. The heatmap watchface on this is pretty dope but not worth all the other minuses. I am disappoint.
does it have vo2max ?
No
@@Dcrainmaker thanks, love your work :)
жаль что экран не читабелен на солнце, и требует включения подсветки
A joke that there is no sensor pairing. That's essentially game over for anyone serious about training.
I agree but I don't think that's who this is for. i think since this is splitting the hair of smart watch and fitness watch, it's for a different market.
I agree. That is the make or break feature for me on any of these watches.
whats the best suunto watch to get for a beginner to fitness? i dont do running but do s lot of walking (so gps a must) also started cuirit training and laps of pool. Im just getting started. Used to be a big Fitbit fan but not anymore. Ive used budget Garmin and Polar watches but wanting to upgrade to something with a bit more metrics so i can plot my fitness. I cant afford the Sunnto 7
Spartan Trainer Wrist HR if you get it for a competitive price.
Venu or suunto7?
No sensor pairing? Pointless watch
Maybe not yet
WearOS lagging out in the first 4 minutes of this review, trying to handle basic operations... no thanks, not for $500. [EDIT] Note to all, WearOS uses the heart-rate sensor to detect for wrist-wearing presence. So even though you turn heart monitoring completely off, the HR sensor LEDs will flash and illuminate at random. Its possible the CPU was trying to locate a wrist at that moment during this video. That may have caused the lag & jank.
How long is the battery, does it have a always on mode and how big is it
how is it compared to the Garmin Venu? :)
Similiar screens. I think Wear OS does a better job leveraging that AMOLED screen, but then again Garmin gets more than double (or even triple) the battery life. Garmin has far more fitness features, whereas Wear OS has more day to day apps.
@dcrainmaker Could you review the new Amazfit stratos 3?
Really love your work!!
When you clicked on weather and it just kept loading... That's so wearos
I don't hear "standpoint" in the all video or it's just me, Ray come on!
