Great reaction guys!! Not only was John singing about himself and Yoko, but he was naming everything he had been into Like Elvis, Beatles, God etc etc but his family is most important. The dream is over, refers to the end of The Beatles!
His killer said he was upset about what Lennon said about being more popular than religion in England. The American press got hold of that one sentence and the Beatles were being banned (especially in the south). That was 14 years before his death.
My main men Mojo and Uncle Ted! I'm a bit late here since I thought it was unavailable, but I was browsing and came across this, so naturally I had to comment. This of course comes from Lennon's solo debut album "Plastic Ono Band", which came off the heels of his time spent in Los Angeles with Arthur Janov engaging in primal scream therapy. The album is one big catharsis session for John, on this track he is freeing himself from what he saw as myth, saving the Beatles for last (though it should be noted Ringo was his drummer here!). Another notable track is "Mother", equally as haunting and a tribute to his mother, Julia, who died when he was still a boy/youth. As usual, Uncle Ted imparting wisdom here. Glad I saw this, thanks for the reaction, and please come back soon! I must have my reaction fix, though I hope everything is all right your way.
Material wise, John had the best childhood out of all the Beatles. Emotion wise, he had the worst. His father abandoned him (came back into his life after he became famous), his mother was killed by a drunk driver, he was raised by a strict aunt who told him the guitar was great but he'd never make a living with it, his favorite uncle died early, he likely married his first wife without wanting to marry her because she was pregnant. He had all those things in life that let him down and he finally found someone/something in Yoko who loved him unconditionally. He was ready to move on from the Beatles and that everyone else should carry on with their lives.
oh no did not love him unconditionally. What ever would have given you that idea. She controlled him as well as all of his money. She just recently turned over control to Sean. She was mean to Julian and not kind to his mom.
Remember that the connection between the video and the song was made by the video editor, not John. It's relevant, but not necessarily in a way John might have intended.
It seemed to me that John could be more introspective once the shackles of the Beatles mainstream pop themes were gone...He didn't have to run his songs past the other members and if it failed it was only on him...The band was a group put together just to play on his songs with minimal input on the melodies and lyrics...I think members of the Plastic Ono band were paid for sessions they played on...That would have given him musical freedom...That's my take on Lennons solo years
Good to hear you both voice those sentiments on the lines of it is not he or she or them or it that you belong to. Try to make your own way in life with what you got.
I think you should allow your grandpa his beliefs as perhaps he allows yours? Difficult to know the intricacies but the one thing that is obvious is the choice of song and the intent. I don't believe in Magick - I know it. But I still agree with Lennon here. How does that work?
Cool vid. Did anyone hear about this author claiming in a new book that John Lennon was killed by someone else other than Mark Chapman? He claims that maybe even Yoko Ono had something to do with it?
oh no was a mean and devious person. She was not good for John or his wife or son or friends. She was a controlling person who pretended to be so sweet.
god is a concept by which we measure our pain, cause them more pain we have in life the more we look for god
I get chills when he sings "I just believe in me", raw and to the point.
... yoko and me ^^
Great reaction guys!!

A litany of so-called sacred cows.
Like I told my dad fifty years ago when John is singing …don’t talk , dad
“Yoko and me.. that’s reality”
Cry at 99% of his songs.. his voice and the messages in his songs are just so deep😪

Good point about values ourselves
That is a WISE Uncle!!
Our beliefs are our choices and our choices are ours. Nobody else's.

John’s just giving his opinion.
