      Local people, the relatives and friend of the murdered need to extract revenge by firing the mayor and the police chief and making sure that all of the police are retrained properly. This time its a school they fail to protect, next time it will be someone's home or office. It took the border police to save the rest of the children. The State Governor et al needs to be also taken out at the next election. People are dying on their watch.

      Seriously, as a NON American looking in from the outside it is pretty clear. EVERY American is to blame and your LOVE of giving firearms to anyone who wants one.
      This will only get worse until you disarm your population. Arming teachers and fortifying schools is absurd, surly you see this? But i guess you will defend the "right to bear arms"
      right down to the last American child. Sickening...

    It's funny how cops and other Republicans are always saying things like "if you haven't done anything wrong, then you have nothing to fear [from talking to the police]". The fact that that police chief is actively avoiding investigators and refusing to talk with them is his tacit admission that he HAS done something wrong (legally, not just morally) and he knows it. On a related note, if police officers don't have to talk to investigators (other police officers), then why should any member of the public?

    • @shortchange26
      @shortchange26 2 года назад +5

      What makes you think the average citizen has to talk to the police? Let's not be one to spread that information because it is wrong. You have the inherent right to not speak to any law enforcement officer about anything.

    • @nomore6167
      @nomore6167 2 года назад +11

      @@shortchange26 "What makes you think the average citizen has to talk to the police?" - I don't think the average citizen HAS to talk to the police. Every citizen has the right to remain silent. However, we all know that police put immense pressure (and, frequently, illegal tactics) to "encourage" (force) people to talk to them. My point was that if this police chief refuses to talk to investigators, then police have no reason to expect the average citizen to talk to them.

      @Dario, it's gaslighting and lying. The Texas police who let a convicted murderer "escape" two weeks ago did the same thing. Gonzalo Lopez, a violent offender, was being transported to a medical appointment with about fifteen other prisoners on a prison bus. He somehow got out of his handcuffs and leg irons, cut a hole under the metal door separating him from the bus driver, and then shanked the driver with a metal object and stole the bus. The public info officer from that town told the press that police handled the situation well and called them "heroes" because they shot out the tires of the bus before he could get very far. That was two weeks ago, and that dangerous felon is still at large. No new updates from the police either. As long as police face no consequences, they will keep lying and covering things up!

      No, they lost their soul. The mind is pointless if you have no soul. The mind is like a computer. Very good for storing data. Remembering dates and figures, how to drive and where the closest McDonald's is. It's the soul that makes compassion and empathy and the ability to feel what someone's else's experience might be like.
      Do anything of those things there remind you of the people you are speaking about?
      No, of course not, they've lost their soul. And do you know what lost souls do so they don't have to face what's become of them? They seek any kind of worldly power they can grasp. Don't ask me why, it's just what they do. Possibly has something to do with whoever they sold their soul over to. I don't know.

      It doesn't have to be like this. In other countries police would immediately fall under independent scrutiny and would comply. In England (e.g.) the Inspectorate of Constabulary would step in and would appoint an unrelated police force to conduct an investigation (police services have learned to _refer themselves_ to the Inspectorate nowadays!) and if the service in question did not fully comply with the unrelated police the Inspectorate would report and the senior staff would lose their jobs and possibly be charged. Whichever police service is appointed it does not protect the service under investigation: a matter of professional pride and public face. No system is perfect, but solutions do exist and the US *chooses* to have the *worst* solution every time; none of the rest of us know why!

      @@FeloniousChihuahua Following last February's shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, some students claimed local government officials were at fault for failing to provide protection to students. The students filed suit, naming six defendants, including the Broward school district and the Broward Sheriff’s Office , as well as school deputy Scot Peterson and campus monitor Andrew Medina.
      On Monday, though, a federal judge ruled that the government agencies " had no constitutional duty to protect students who were not in custody."
      This latest decision adds to a growing body of case law establishing that government agencies - including police agencies - have no duty to provide protection to citizens in general:

How often did this small town police department face dangerous crime? Rarely. The most action they had was probably the occasional drunk and traffic tickets. Not making excuses for them, but this department was sheltered af and when finally confronting real crime - they were too scared to rise to the occasion.
