Can confirm this mod increased the gap between the seat and the steering wheel by about 11mm. 10/10 way to spend 40 minutes. Note: I have an NB2 and you do have to completely remove the bolts to get the shims out as the shims have a hole, not a... cut out (or what ever you wanna call it).

Propably helps with centering of the column on the assembly line and maybe pretensioning the bolts? I am guessing but I would definitely put there some loctite to be sure my column won't get loose while driving...
Good question. On the NA, there was a plate above the steering column (which helped the column not collapse until the airbag was deployed) that could be removed to get an even bigger height difference than this mod does. Given how slight those shims look, I doubt they perform the same function.

Am i the only one who didn't find any shims there? Maybe the previous owner removed them...
