One of our favourite places.. Camilla you've reminded us once again of the importance of style and beauty. It's a shame we're losing a sense of elegance in so many aspects of our lives. The Hotel Maria Cristina is just gorgeous either to stay or for have a drink. Maria
I am lucky enough to have had 2 holidays in San Sebastián, including a meal at Akelarre, a 3 Michelin star restaurant overlooking San Sebastián. SS is entirely magical, with an exquisite beach backed by a long arched colonnade, lovely little islands in the bay accessible by little ferries with restaurant and swimming, stunning architecture, dozens of pinxtos restaurants. Just superb.
I was lucky enough to have led talks & lectures a few times at the University's Summer School which used to be at the Palacio Miramar: the inside has been significantly altered, so not much of the original grandeur left, but the view is spectacular. PS. the plant that Camilla was admiring is a shrub called Coleus - I used to have lots of it at my house in SW France as it's very hardy & spreads quickly so makes good ground cover in tricky locations eg. slopes.
More! More! Enjoyed ‘our visit’ to San Sebastián 👏. A travel wardrobe update for Ollie sounds a good idea. Any vintage clothes shops? Camilla looks fabulously stylish as always. 🏖🫶
Because of your wonderful videos I am planning my trip to Spain. I love the areas you feature and your hometown. Hopefully, within next year, we shall be in beautiful Spain.
It looks such a lovely place to visit thank you for sharing super buildings …. I have a small collection of vintage holiday posters they are just lovely and the art work is so of the period ❤
Love the trip down the fashion memory lane. The belle epoque period is fascinating. The lovely San Sebastian is now on my list of places to visit. Thank you both for another intesting and enjoyable video! xx
Last Easter we went to Biarritz and from there we went on a day trip to Donostia San Sebastian! Beautiful, very stylish and what I loved the most were the buildings in the Old Town and the churches! It was great to see now, through your eyes, other things that we couldn't on a day trip! Thank you, dear Camilla and Ollie for this video!!!❤
What a beautiful place! The views are spectacular from the Miramar! I adore the fashion from the Belle Epoch era! So elegant and stylish, in fact some of the dresses wouldn't look out of place nowadays!😊😍
I love San Sebastian. I used to visit regularly on business and a few years ago visited for the first time as a tourist at the end of August which coincided with the international firework Festival held every year. Fantastic but it was incredibly busy and difficult to book restaurants as people book a year in advance. The giants you saw were walking around the town and there was 'bull running' - great structures that were carried around and breathed fire and young men ran and chased getting close as they breathed fire. We also enjoyed an afternoon at the island you can see which is a nature reserve with picnic areas and a small beach. It's possible to swim to - my husband did. We had lovely food as well.
Thank you so much for sharing such a beautiful place with us. I always live the variety in your videos. The iron along the promenade is incredible. Can't wait to see more.
I imagine the people back in that time had a lot of pressure in society to look a certain way. That takes a bit of the loveliness of the outfits away - I would think...
Those "two-toned shoes" are known as "spectators", fyi. Cool, huh? And geez...the frame on that painting. Just wow! The pinkish/purple-ish plants are called coleus and come in a variety of interesting sizes and colors. I think the red and yellows are ranunculus.
I love your approach to sharing your holidays with us. Ollie you should paint your beautiful wife in front of the flower bed. Thanks again. P.s. Ollie why are you wearing two wrist watches?
They do look elegant, but Ollie, would you want to have to dress in a three piece suit with leather shoes just to pop out for a loaf of bread? And Camilla, it was worse for women, as you pointed out, heels well into the twentieth century for sports! Not my scene in reality, though I enjoy looking at well dressed people even today! Thank you for the video! It was epic as always!
It's funny Ollie mentioned the influence of The Prince of Wales because when you walked over to the image of the tennis player previous to that I immediately thought she looked like Wallis Simpson.
This channel is more and more becoming a channel about art, shops, traditions, museums and architecture. Its almost a tourist channel and although very interested I subscribed because I thought this was going to be about the restoration of your gorgeous home….

We were both right Camilla, the bullet holes were from the Spanish Civil War
I loved watching the series Le Gran Hotel. I think it was filmed in near San Sebastián.
