    I was driving in 4th gear and here in India the loading auto drivers don't care about signalling. It took a sharp turn through the divider and my car didn't have ABS . Luckily I turned the wheel at the right time with the right amount and there was no one on my left. It was scary for a learner.

    I needed to do an emergency brake earlier this day, i was in my 94 kia pride with no abs, luckily i only locked up around 10km/h but i was around 60 and this white toyota braked full on for a pedestrian in a 60km/h zone with no ped lane, i needed to brake as much as possible and actually didn't feel scared for some reason, i had enough balls to modulate the brakes and i was about 19 inches aprox to the toyota infront of me when i was finally on a hault. Miraculously I didn't stall, i was milliseconds close to stalling as well so yeah, i was a bit lucky.

    Please explain about turns in the road and which gear is best

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  5 лет назад +3

      You can't really say which gear is best for a turn as a gear needs to suit your speed. Your gear should suit your road and engine speed. Changing up a gear at around 2000rpm and down a gear at 1000rpm is good for most cars in most situations.

    • @MichaelFlatman
      @MichaelFlatman 5 лет назад +3

      @@ricknaughty1016 in front wheel drive cars, which is likely for a first car, if you come off gas too quickly it can unsettle the car and cause the rear wheels to potentially skid. Steering into the skid, and applying some gas can correct this, but lots of people correct too far and the car will snap back the other way, at that point you may not be able to recover...
      It's not recommended to try and drift on public roads, but if you ever encounter a situation where you will enter a drift (snow/ice), it is good to know how to correct it for your car's setup.

    • @ConquerDriving

      @ConquerDriving this is a great titbit of information for a learner. I've got my test soon and one of the things I struggled with for some time was gear selection on turns.
      I generally tried to slow to between 10-15 mph and be in second, although depending on the reaction of the car, I would sometimes coast. Watching the revs helps a lot.

    Great video. Love the animations. Quick query about the clutch. You say (in a car with ABS) to press both the clutch and brake at the same time. Im being taught to only put down the clutch just before coming to a stop as this gives you some engine braking too. I was also taught to do this back when I did my motorcycle lessons. Im curious why your teaching different. Easier to learn?

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  5 лет назад +4

      Yes, easier to learn and engine braking is completely irrelevant once you are hard enough on the brakes to get the abs to activate. You will still get the tiny bit of engine braking as you transition from the gas to brake and clutch. Also you may not get the clutch down in time which would lead to a stall, this isn't the end of the world but better not to stall. It takes 1.5 seconds to stop from 30-0 in good conditions so you would be pressing them almost at the same time anyway. The driving examiners are absolutely fine with this. A lot of instructors are also over sensitive towards coasting, but coasting is a normal part of driving, especially in traffic at low speeds. Coasting is bad down long hills where you will put more strain on the brakes and coasting into a junction or across someone else's pathway is also very bad because you are unable to accelerate quickly and risk stalling in a precarious place if you were to use the clutch incorrectly or were in the wrong gear. On the race track I often get to emergency stop levels of braking, in this scenario I keep the clutch up as much as possible and even heel and toe to keep the car balanced with the clutch down for as little time as possible because I want power available the moment it's needed. During the emergency stop you only want to stop with no plan of continuing and most people would be panicking in a real emergency which is why ABS has been compulsory since 2004. Thinking about when to get the clutch down should not be on your mind. Where to steer should be your concentration after hard braking. Also as a driving instructor doing countless emergency stops, leaving the clutch up with ABS would put my engine under enormous strain as the engine rpm flies up and down as rapidly as the abs operates. To be honest, practising the emergency stop isn't very useful in my opinion as unless you do it regularly and have hours of high speed circuit experience you will panic and hit the brakes as hard as you can, the clutch doesn't even come into it. So best let ABS do it's job. Deaths on the roads have halved since ABS was introduced. There have been other advances too so it is probably not all down to ABS.

    • @MichaelFlatman
      @MichaelFlatman 5 лет назад +1

      An automatic car will disengage the torque converter clutch and can also take it out of gear in an emergency.. The extra inertia of the engine makes the abs slower to react (as not only speeding up and slowing down wheels, but the engine too!)
      Thus best put clutch down, throughout the brake..
      In normal braking, where you are not causing the abs to cut in, leave clutch up until you are around 1000rpm, it saves fuel and engine brakes (zero fuel used in the braking phase, as opposed to the little bit used for idling the engine).

  • @davidolive2651
    @davidolive2651 3 года назад +1

    I’m a bit confused about the emergency stop as my parents are telling me to do different things than my instructor. My test is next week and idk what to do? Car I’m using has ABS. Do I clutch and break at the same time (or should I use the engine breaking)? Also- I’ve been told to not press *too* hard because I’ll break the brakes? But I’ve also heard to just get the brake pedal to the floor ASAP.

    • @ConquerDriving
      @ConquerDriving  3 года назад +6

      On the test it doesn't matter if you brake and clutch at the same time or brake first then clutch. Just not clutch first. You can press it as hard as you like if the car has ABS, the brake pedal is very strong. No manufacturer wants reports of the brakes failing because Dwayne Johnson stomped on it. Although the Suzuki Celerio had this problem when the brake pedal went to the floor on some early cars, but they solved it very quickly.
