My mom told me, when I was around 2, I'd go around the house singing this song at the top of my lungs all day...
In 1992, she gave me 3 ceramic hippos, a mom and 2 babies...
Someone threw a ball and the mom fell off the mantle shattering.
My mom was super upset...
But, to this day, I have one of the babies sitting on my desk beneath my computer monitor. It's been there for almost 27 years now!
I don't think 2 year old me could have fully appreciated Lauren Tyler Scott belting this out as much as I do now ;)
That's a wonderful story! Thanks for sharing :)
Love your story! 💖🐴
I feel for the 2 baby hippo's that lost their mum so early in life :-(
@@andrewlynham606 It's okay Andrew, they were taken into a supportive home and I made sure they both got a lot of therapy over the years... They've come to accept their mother's sacrifice!
Aww. We need to get you a...
I'm gonna BE a hippopotamus this christmas
😂😂😂😂😂
Bloody true story :c
That's ambition taken to the nth extreme.
Hope you land somebody like her, lol.
the best comment ever .. and you made me laugh... thanks !
I'm glad to see we're focusing on practical Christmas gifts this year. 😅
This is textbook deadpan hilarity: the silliest, most inane novelty song ever... sung completely straight. I love it!
trumpeter really just popped out and then it was all fun and games really
I thought it was a good opportunity for Tambourine Guy to pop up.
Absolutely adorable. I love that the words are shown too, so everyone can learn the song for the holidays. Thank you everyone. One of the best gifts ever. ❤️
Glad you enjoyed it Vivian!
I hope you’ll bring your Holiday show to Skokie soon. ❤️
I dont see any lyrics :(
@@missperfect1281 Turn on the closed captioning, it's been added to make sure it's accurate!
@@secretforreddit They're not.
Damn. She nailed that one. Right up to the wall.
Santa:
“It was easier back in the day when girls asked for ponies...”
HAHAHA A PONY.....A PONY....B*CH I ASKED FOR A STRAIGHT-UP UNCORN WHEN I WAS LITTLE LLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!!
@@teddybearkiller5271 are you okay-? you also missed the t in bitch
Why is Santa so jolly? He knows all the naughty people
I would love it if this could get played on the radio more than that Mariah Carey song.
Marc Van Leur it’s not even Christmas, and I’ve heard that song upwards of a dozen times
Yesss
Why? This isn't even funny
To be fair they cover that too
Agreed.
The quality of the production just boosts the amazing performance to another level
This is THE version I will always compare all future listenings to. Classic, modern, even ones that haven't come out yet - they will all be compared to this one. I liked listening to this song as a kid, but this version is the. Version. You will not change my mind.
💯🙌
Keep the Christmas Covers Coming!
The season is almost upon us!
We got you covered, all of our Christmas music in one place: ruclips.net/p/PLJZH8sevmMq4K-JEyfTCKBJskAzi3wTjm
@@postmodernjukebox If you covered Fairytale of New York this year, you would make my season. For my money that's the best modern Christmas song there is.
@@polysyllabic1 yeah! Most christmas songs are about spreading joy and kindness. This is the only hit christmas song that has hatred and arguments on christmas. The only problem is... Pmj will have to replace some words if they were to do it.
@@OwenOsaka Nah, they do "clean" versions of all of their songs anyway, so they wouldn't be making a "choice" either way.
Took me a solid minute to notice the huge golden present in the background. That's how captiavating Lauren's voice is.
Kom'rk Ordo Only saw it after reading your comment 😂 Blinked like 8 times, lol!
Didn't see it for minute after reading this comment))
Judging from the size of the golden present, simeone's getting an upright piano for Christmas!
@@RogerBrowne still no hippo? (
i was 3 minutes in, and I only noticed because you mentioned it.
Simply Brilliant Lauren Tyler Scott's vocals are spot on , arrangement is perfect
I always thought this song was annoying but Postmodern Jukebox keeps bringing songs to a whole new level. Amazing job as always.
Props to you guys for waiting until after Thanksgiving to drop this. Bless you all :')
aw i’ve had this song stuck in my head every christmas for years since i was a kid! i love that you guys have a cover of it! the hippo-sized gift box in the back is a great touch
Omg! Her voice is amazing. You all did a great job.
This is officially my favorite version of this song 😃
I am convinced. She reeeally wants a hippopotamus for Christmas. So well sung and delivered!
Lord jiminy coleslaw. I've had the original song in mind for years now and I've somehow let PMJ slip my mind the last couple years and only now do I see this cover?
Amazing, glorious, fantastic. The singer is fabulous. Nailed it completely. It's the same song but without the childishness. It's amazing.
Another beautiful arrangement!
Martin Diller masterfully ties this all together on that drum kit !
In a history of exceptional songs, this was an exceptional song. Helps that it's my favorite all-time Christmas song, and boy did you guys blow it away.
I never realized that yes I want a hippopotamus for Christmas until now! 🥰 Lauren convinced me!! 🤩
The band can smile. It won't break their faces. Great whimsical song!
I asked my mother for a Hippopotamous for christmas once she said "A Hippo, who's going to feed it, who's going to take it for walks, who's going to clean up after it"
dream killer
Minor details. Easy enough to work out after you get the hippo.
Yer mum ofcourse 😂
It’s true. That’s why if you really hate someone, give their child a puppy without asking them. 🤷🏻♂️ Then they’ll either have to spend all that money taking care of the dog or spend that money on their child’s therapy once they give the dog away.
@ray sheen
I once visited a health club that had a big sign that said: Unattended children will be given a double espresso and a free puppy.
Dude that gal has some legendary pipes on her.
If I rated the grin on my face while listening to this on a scale of 1 to 10 it would be an... Ouch my face hurts from grinning so much!
Lauren vocal is chistmas!!
'The fabulous Lauren Tyler Scott' is a spot on description...consider me entirely charmed.
What a superb cover!
The PMJ's Christmas covers are today the best of all times!
one of my favorite Christmas songs...what a great job they did on the arrangement, and outstanding vocals from Lauren Tyler Scott. I really enjoyed this.
I've always liked the Hippopotamus song ,but this cover is the best I've heard.
I have been following for a while and this song is now my favorite...... Even over Stacy's Mom.
Stacy's mom is awsome...! I also adore My heart Will go on, all the small things, high hills, style...
Yeah and gangsta paradise
I prefer Stacy's mom.
@@jony12s69 well yes, we all do. Cause stacey mum has got it going on.
I enjoy watching her perform this song as much as I like the music!
To be honest, I have never heard of this song. The cover is/sounds truly amazing.
superhunk1989 the original is super cute, you should look it up
Never thought I'd see the day a cover of "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" would be done. Good stuff.
Mom's right though: a hippo would eat her up, just like in Jumanji.
so story time!
My dad loved having a cup of tea, and had a walkie-talkie to call me whenever he wanted a cup from me cause I always made it perfect in his words.
whenever the commercial that had THIS song in it was on TV.....my dad would hold the walkie next to the TV when the song played and I'd hear it almost non-stop all christmas
I now have a charm on my necklace to remind me of my dad- a Hippo.
Your Dad sounds like a wonderful man and thank you for the lovely story
@@christophercontent3372 you never realize the things you'll miss from a loved one until they're gone- ironically I miss him calling for tea every hour now. :D
@@pokefan213 Yes - sometimes those little things are actually the most important. I hope you have a wonderful winter and I'm sure that your dad would be proud of you.
UnderLust_Sins ❤️
Beautiful girl and good singer for sure.
Every cover of "I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas" sounds the same as the original song . . . except this one. Kudos to PMJ for giving this song some new life.
Oh, and the boys did a good job, too.
Ah yes, another masterpiece for my Christmas playlist. Absolutely beautiful!
I love this. She's got a great voice. 👍
Yess!
I can imagine that this is probably what that little girl's voice would have sounded like when she grew up. (I hope so, for her sake.)
Unfortunately, it's mostly unchanged...at least when she sings. You can find a fairly recent interview with her on RUclips.
I don't know if there's video of her singing anywhere, but she's a friend of my mom's and we used to go to the same church so I've heard her sing a few times and her singing voice reminds me most of Dolly Parton. She's also super sweet and I bet she'll love this video. :)
@@ouijacorn that's really cool!
Here's a video of the girl singing, followed by her in 2016 at age 73.

We younger Aussies fondly remember it performed by our beloved entertainer Patsy Biscoe, on her Christmas album. I had no idea it went back so far :)
What a beautiful voice!!! She sings it so well.
Holy carp. That voice....
- and hippopotamuses like me too.
Can confirm, am hippopotamus.
I want her for christmas!
I was skeptical, but she won me over right quick!
Best voice I've heard on PMJ. Prettiest face also.
Drummer just won some big bucks on a TV game show!
I am 74 , English not much of a music fan but this is wonderful on so many levels ....Great voice.
This is classic vintage song. Very beautifully sang...
Hands down, this is the best version ever of this song. Great job!
Chuck G :) ;)
Saves my day.
A Christmas carol to my liking.
I love it.
OMG....wow this is so awesome! I can’t believe I am only discovering it now.....I love the original and this is perfect
She did a fantastic job! Wow.
I say, what a wonderful ditty! Splendid.
Popup accompaniment. Joyous. Love this group.

This is so underrated, the cover is just so beautiful
What Talent - You guys just never cease to fascinate me!!! What a DOLL!
I’m in love with this beautiful young lady. Absolutely beautiful 🎄great song you guys. 🌺💐🌸
My dad used to play that every year at Christmas. Over and over and over. LOVE this take on it. Though Gayla was awesome too.
All time fave Xmas song
Instant Christmas classic... put this in the Christmas radio rotation, try at at 1.25x playback speed, it really swings!
OH EM JEE ... 😍🎄
🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍 I love this song and you've done an amazing job. Perfect..thank you for sharing
Nice touch with the Nutcracker March in the trumpet part.
I already AM a hippopotamus🤪🥰
What a stunning performance!!!! An instant Christmas Classic!!!
I once crocheted a pink hippo as a Christmas gift. Fit I the palm of my hand
Those eyes and that voice. Killercombo!
Sang this song in our 1st grade Christmas show. With a paper maché hippo😅
This is my favorite holiday song ever! So well done, I love it!!!
Lovely, what fun, what talent!
This is great and turns a novelty Christmas song into a novelty Christmas tradition.
Ugh this is so beautiful I literally could cry. She’s so preciousss qwq

Yesss, that diction is truly music to my ears. Thank you!
The best drumps!!
Wasn’t expecting this song since it’s already older but still enjoyed it. Hippos are dangerous y’all, stay safe this Christmas
The first time this song hasn't annoyed me to no end 😆
Well I know what I'll be playing by Christmas now.
Wow, you actually made this song sound good.
*happy holidays for 2021*
Lauren thanks for sharing your beautiful voice! Merry Christmas! Lady!
My life it a lie
I thought she was wearing a dress and the rug was apart of the dress
Oh my god ME TOO. And then I saw that it wasn't even a dress.....
What dress?
Wait what? 🤔
OMG. 😮
Well merry Christmas! 😃
🤦♀️
Anch'io credevo che il tappeto fosse un pezzo del vestito,:) :) :) :) ;). ,Non so perché ma questa ragazza mi ricorda qualcuno
In my heart I thought it was a dress...
I had a colleague who did not know this song. One year at work we had a Secret Santa and we had to write on a piece of paper what we want for Christmas and I, naturally, wrote that I wanted a Hippopotamus. In it went in a box along with everyone else's wish. When this colleague's turn came they pulled it out and you could hear them curse a blue streak "WHAT THE ABSOLUTE F--- IS THIS SH--?! WHERE THE F---K AM I GOING TO GET A HIPPOPOTAMUS?!" My boss nearly fell out of his chair laughing so hard.
The first time I ever heard the original recording of this song was about 4 or 5 years ago at work. There were several charity fundraisers going on in the weeks leading up to Christmas, and among the was a the ability to request songs from the "DJ" at $3 a song. The team managers had linked their iPads to the PA system in order to do this and pretty much everyone in the office requested at least one song. One of my coworkers put the managers' research skills to the test by requesting her childhood favorite - "I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas". I was surprised at how calm Julie was with all the questions: yes, she assured them, it's a real song. Finally one of the managers found the song on Spotify and it echoed around the office. Good times.
Love the Nutcracker reference! Haha!
Wonderful!
This song is so adorable as she is too 💜
Wow......this is officially my favorite version of this song...
Adore this song , only Xmas song for me
The stocking letters are a nice touch.
Easily my new favorite version of this song! Instant classic!
