Chris's "sadness" is no excuse for him to shoot down Jerry like that - after all, he used to date his daughter, and I bet Jerry would have loved to have Chris as a son-in-law
Chris has to be one of the best depiction of depression on TV. He doesn't get depressed during the show, he already was when he arrived in Pawnee, and it took him years of realization, support from his friends, and work, to get his head out of the water.
"if i keep my body moving, and my mind occupied at all times, i will avoid falling into a bottomless pit of despair" i dont know what you're missing mate
This character is really relatable, his desire to be happy his struggle with anxiety and depression his outlook on life his positivity his mask it’s like an exaggerated mirror for me
@@wbwbc89 I think he was being real, how is this cringe talking about depression , it’s pretty obvious he was faking the whole enthusiasm most times to mask sorrow
Knowing how he was born with a disease and wasn’t supposed to live makes so much sense for how he acts - and I love the parts when he gets nervous about being a father, and even when he called Tom son 😭
My favorite is also my favorite scene in the entire series. Ben: “Hypothetical crisis: Leslie just tried to answer a question, but audibly farted and then threw up. Spin.” Chris: “Leslie Knope is literally overflowing with ideas for this town. And speaking about methane, have you heard about her plan to limit greenhouse gas emissions?”
This is pretty much what my depression looks like from the outside. Cheerful, full of jokes disguising the fact I am on the edge of hysteria. It’s exhausting and really hard to turn off.
I hope you can find people who are smart and intelligent, as well as caring, with whom you don't have to forcefully put on a mask of joy. And then hopefully you'll be able to start a process of recovery. I believe I've been through 10 years of depression, and I was incredibly fortunate that I had non judgemental, caring, and most importantly intelligent family and friends. And through some incredible luck, I managed to get cured. And thankfully without any medication. A part of me died and it is not coming back anytime soon. But I am genuinely content now without horrific periods of emptiness or sadness or whatever else my brain came up with to mess me up. I have an actual job that I can do competently too. I'm not saying you will definitely find a cure for yourself, or saying that since I got cured, you will too, or what worked for me will work for you. All I'm saying is that it's not impossible to be cured of depression. So do what you can, try to gather whatever tiny bits of strength you find, and try to be open minded. And remember that a "cure" need not be just one thing. It could be many things- big or small, taking place over a long time.

I love how on the surface Chris is perfect but when you get to know him throughout the series, he’s just as messed up and doing everything he can to keep it together like the rest of us. He tries to force positivity in everything because if not, it causes him to admit how dark the world is. I need to be more like Chris, but I ain’t got the energy like he’s got lol
These people can't be alone because the second they are alone their performative positive energy goes and they spiral into executive dysfuntion and become paralized in panic. They only have that energy when around people feeling pressure to out perform starving for someone to give any validation they can savor and hold onto to. This kind of anxiety is not a blessing, 24/7 obsessive thoughts, its pure O OCD, you are better off staying chill, you do not want what he has trust me
It's not a vibrator it is a massage stick. These are just used as vibrators for obvious reasons. However they are designed and originally used as massage sticks and still are.
Chris knows how to talk to people to let them hear what they want to hear. And thankfully in time, he learns how to listen to them rather than use toxic positivity to try and not show any weakness or cracks in his armor of forced optimism. It’s okay to be vulnerable; it doesn’t make you weak. If anything, pretending to be someone you’re not is what really makes you weak.
