    To maintain a healthy weight, the Food and Drug Administration recommends eating 275 grams of carbs a day. For some people, that amount of carbs in a 2,000-calorie diet works. But if it doesn’t work for you, you may consider following a diet lower in carbohydrates. This video shares four options: Carnivore, Ketovore, Keto, and Low-Carb.     I was on the Keto diet for several months, and I lost 35 lbs. I went back on a "regular" diet and, although I have maintained my weight loss, I have joint pain and was diagnosed with osteoarthritis. I learned that pain is not a normal part of aging, and my diet can be my medicine. I bought a CGM subscriptino and am going back on a keto diet to manage my pain.

    I’m currently ketovore and honestly I love the restrictions because it makes my decisions much easier as to what I buy and cook. I still have weight to lose and I’ll continue to do the ketovore diet until I’ve reached my goal. Then I hope to be able to slowly add back a few more carbs to maintain a low carb lifestyle. The food lists you provided are very helpful to keep me on track. I will print them out and keep them handy for my shopping list. Thank you Doctor Becky.

    I have followed Dr. Becky since Feb of this year. I follow a pretty strict Keto diet 25 or less carbs per day . I am also a type II Diabetic. I have lost 76 lbs and reduced my A1C from 10.3 to 6.9 in less than 5 months. My daily glucose used to run as high as 325 some days. It is now averaging 85 to 99. This diet has saved my life. Inflammation has reversed and I have so much more energy. I still have a hundred lbs to lose and I watch Dr. Becky often for affirmation and confirmation. Thanks, Doc! Appreciate you!!! 😊

    First in response to BillyBoy's post- I think it's impossible not to love this lady! She is so empathetic & kind to her audience and her videos have been so helpful changing and helping people's lives. Kudos, Dr Becky!❤❤❤
    About her comment in regards to using the weight scale, totally agree! In fact I would take it one step further and throw the scale away. The scale should never be the chief indicator if a diet is working. There is only one tool to use as far as I am concerned and that is the mirror! That is what really tells you if your diet is working or not. I never trust the scale because I'm a serious lifter and muscle mass will always weigh more than "fat" but take up less room. The real indicator is to check your abs, waist and overall body fat distribution. If you like what you see, its working.

    Yass girl!!!! Keep it coming. I’m down 30 pounds in six weeks doing dirty keto. I still eat healthy things but dirty keto keeps me on track. I count net carbs and believe it or not. I stay under 20 net carbs a day but my total carbs are over 100 and yeah I still lose weight every day.

    Always great information Dr Becky! Question what do you think of unflavored grass fed whey protein shakes with unsweetened almond milk regarding insulin levels? Is it still considered a processed food? I'm super confused about the amino acids it contains and whether over time it affects hormone levels. You are my go to person and thankful for your presence on YT.

    Out of all of the nutritional videos I've watched for years, this one was the most informative. Plus, I got a list of foods. I love this lady!
    Lmnt makes me feel sick, they taste so salty to me. Unfortunately, almost every video about these diets advertises it. I'd like to know what else are good electrolytes.

      I have noted this in videos, which would best explain. Generally, a macro percentage of 70/20/10 (fat/protein/carbs) for keto and either 60/20/20 or 50/25/25 for low-carb.

      Not really, their recommendations are for maintenance and based heavily on vegetables and fruits. If you’re where you want to be weight and health wise it’s fine if you can tolerate the side effects. The carnivore diet helped me single out which fruits and vegetables were causing me issues and I’ve since added a few back, took a while to narrow them down though.

      That’s a lot but in my country, Peru, they eat so many carbs (rice with potatoes, legumes and rice, yucca and rice, noodles and potatoes) you get the picture. I think they may eat more carbs than that. Same with Asians. They eat so much rice!!!

      @@biancalucia8388 they probably eat lower fat content so they don’t have to worry about the insulin spike from the carbs as much.

      Fruits and vegetables are absolutely not needed and most are just as harmful as candy in terms of sugar, carbs, oxylates and other toxins. And yes of course 270 grams of carbs is ridiculous and will cause weight gain in all but the most extreme athletes (and even then, they only eat such high carbs on certain training days).

    I personally would not eat 275 grams of carbs in Month I have a hard time believing anything that the FDA says about food intake after the Ancel Keys food pyramid

    LMNT (unflavored) makes my ankles swell and I look generally puffy for almost a day. This is the case whether I drink a small amount or a full packet. I wish it worked out since I intermittent fast, for now I just add lemon slices to water for electrolytes.

      It is easy when you start looking at the food choices. Many of the foods naturally contain fat and protein.

      In the UK our supermarkets are awful no grass fed meat at all limited organic foods got to really look at everything before you buy.thank you becky.

    I am 58 post menopausal, I have been on the carnivore diet for a full week, I feel amazing and seeing weight loss and better sleep and movement. I started working out this week and have added electrolytes into my diet. I have cut out all diary except a small amount of butter, mainly using beef tallow when cooking eggs. First meal of the day is 10 am and I eat my last meal by 6 pm. My question is, could or should I be doing anything else to help with the weight loss? I have lost 4lbs in the first week. Is this normal, can I expect this trend to continue or will it slow down or pick up?

    I'm in menopause and take Maca root capsules.. Will the Maca root capsules interfere with carnivore or keto carnivore?? The Maca root relieves my meno symptoms

    I can’t handle that amount of carbs, it’ll blow me up quicker than anything else. Carnivore/Ketovore works best for me.

      ChiChi, same here. My diet is up to 30 grams of carbs a day, and my digestive system is better than it has ever been. Beef, pork, fish and turkey, and a gluten free nut bread w/15 grams carbs per slice. I finally figured this out after decades of digestive problems - and no help from doctors I sought help from.

    Do you necessarily have to stick to one. Thinking of keeping carbs around 10 or less most days but up to 50 max on Sunday.

    The only way I can produce Keytones is to fast for at least 2 days. As soon as I eat anything on my Keto diet no matter how low carb my glucose shoots up again. I was borderline diabetic but I didn’t think it would be this difficult after 2 months of doing this 😕

    I can't lose weight on carnivore, and on keto veggies bloat me something terrible, 90days carnivore 30days keto, separately of course. not sure what to do next.

    Dr. Becky, why/how does LMNT justify such a low level of potassium vs sodium? I thought we needed about the same of each. Around 3,500 mg per day. I'm not tempted to buy LMNT because of this perceived shortcoming. I use a different electrolyte powder that supplies 1,000 mg of each.

      I hadn't thought much about sodium loss during a workout. I take an electrolyte mix with me when hiking, but looking at the electrolyte levels in the mixes I use, both are almost completely devoid of sodium. Guess I need to eat a lot more salty nuts while hiking, except my packs of nuts aren't particularly high in sodium either. I have a good gram scale. Maybe I'll experiment with adding plain salt to water and check the taste---and of course, order a sample pack of LMNT.

      @@beckygillaspy I've got the straight dope on how much salt to add to my existing electrolyte mix (which I add to 20 oz of water) to bring the sodium level up to 1000 mg.
      Sodium has an atomic weight of 22.99, and chlorine has an atomic weight of 35.45. The number of atoms of each are balanced in ordinary table salt. So to end up with 1.00 gr of sodium we need 2.54 gr of table salt. My kitchen scale claims 1/10th of a gram resolution, but it jumps from 0 to 1.5, and so I don't have much confidence it its ability to measure low values. It'd also be convenient to measure salt in teaspoons. 2 Tablespoons of salt weigh 32.0 gr. So to get 2.54 gr I need 2/12.6 Tablespoons (1/6.3 Tablespoon), or 1/2 teaspoon (plus a little bit).
      Since a few people complained how salty LMNT tasted, I thought I'd try adding a gram of sodium (1/2 teaspoon salt) to Prime electrolyte---it's not too salty. Haven't tried it in ZipFizz yet, but I expect it'll taste okay. I should get some LMNT.

    My husband has been brought up to eat loads of rice, potatoes, beans, white flour tortillas. All this is downright dangerous for me and him as we are now in our 50!s. I am unable to lose weight in my middle area even though I avoid this food.
    How is my husband lean , muscular and healthy weight with this overload of carbs and no gym?
    I just don’t understand 😂

      Me too, my family is from South America and omg they so many carbs. Rice with beans (2cups of each) potatoes with noodles, cassava with rice, rice and potatoes. So much rice and barely any meat.

    "Manageable" is subjective. I find carnivore extremely easy and freeing, however if I wanted to eat more I have no reason not to in any idealogical way, just simply don't want to.
    There are no studies showing long term effects for any diets with any certainty and that is really a question for all ways to eat.
    The question of if adding things actually hurts one over a lifetime is just as relevant, and also not studied enough to give great answers in many cases.
    Carnivore, more than anything, is an elimination diet and can be used in just that way. Eliminate everything but meat for a while and add back a little at a time to see what effects you. This is far more a definition than how many carbs are in food, especially as there are carbs in pretty much everything.
    Also, Carnivore is around 70% meat and carnivores eat other things. Only some contend it is purely meat. Others do not.
    Keto winds up being people chasing ketones a lot of the time, which I personally don't think is a good thing to do, at least if you fear to drop out of ketosis, which you must do periodically.
    The labels are so people can define what they want to, usually to sell either items or ideas in their own ways.
    There are many plants that can cause issues. It will always be individual and everyone will have to trial to figure it out for themselves. Ingested sugar, I believe, is not good for us in any amount or form. This is just a personal belief for my part. Many believe some amount won't hurt us, but that also will never be proven beyond a doubt. Eat however much you believe you can handle, if it is important to you for some reason.
    "Satisfying' is also subjective. If you like fruit or veg, up to you. Some of us don't like most of that. I don't like any fruits. I do like some veg, but won't eat it because I see no reason to do so. But, that is my preference. Do what it takes for you to sustain your own diet.

    On a carnivore diet is possible eat liver too, but isn't necessary eat it frequently, once each week or two is sufficient.
    As reference for that I look for KenDBerryMD.

      Yes, you need to supplement some liver into a carnivore diet primarily for folate which is found in dark leafy greens. I've been eating grass fed beef liver for some time but am still trying to get a hang of its powdery texture.

    My main concern with low carb diets, is the fact that to switch from glycogenolysis to gluconeogenesis, cortisol is secreted to raise blood sugar. This chronic rise in cortisol is enough on it own to cause insulin resistance and muscle catabolism, resulting in a twofold intolerance to carbohydrate. Low carb diets cause an intolerance to carbohydrate, and the inverse (high-carb low fat diets cause increased tolerance to carbohydrate) is also true. So, in the end, you're left with "I have to eat a low carb diet, because I eat a low carb diet." Sounds pretty cuckoo to me.
