Why don’t you eat the leaves instead of mulching them? They taste good. I mix my Brussels sprouts, broccoli, collards etc. all together when I cook them. Also good shredded in salads. 👍🏼

Not a fan of cooked greens but you had me at bacon! Will give it a try, I hate to throw food away. If I like sprouts, broccoli and some cooked spinach, I'll bet with the onions and chicken broth it will be yummy!

I went back and have been watching these older vids of you guys as the spring is almost here in the panhandle Fl. I wish I would have remembered sooner, the leaves of a Brussel taste as good if not better than collards. Season the same way and make sure to get them tender. Thanks for sharing your work.

Hook up with a Realtor in Putnam or Marion county. Tell them what you are looking for and they can help you find a good spot. Most properties in our area start at 5 acres. Anything smaller usually ends up in a more suburban setting regather than country. The further out in the country you get the better the neighbors are.

When do you plant the sprouts? As I look at the plants, they look like they grow slow and the date on this video is late fall? I just planted mine from seed and it is June 29 2016. I think it may be to late.

I live in zone 6a and am a first time gardener in my 2nd year. I, like you want my own food because food in this area is so very expensive, Our Lord gave us this chance and we have embraced it with abandon.
so much so, that my husband wants to expand the garden area and include fruit trees, which I am learning about, and will be my next challenge. I have to say I am enjoying every single moment. Thank you for the information and keep doing what you are doing. It really helps!

I love your videos Hollis, just curious, what state and growing zone are you in. I live in Houston Texas and I'm not sure if Brussel Sprouts would grow in this hot climate.

We now live in Florida zone 9A. We can grow them in the fall only

Brussel Sprouts will grow in Houston, but they are better as a fall crop. We also live around that area between zone 9a and 9b

I’m afraid you may be too far south for any real success with Brussels Sprouts.

Just to be a little pedantic: The quote from Job 12:8 (in the Greek Old Testament aka "The Septuagint") does not say "Ask the plants..".but "Tell the earth, if it might speak to thee." To me this suggests a 2 way dialogue between the gardener and the earth, both trying to teach, encourage and ultimately do the best for one another.

By trimming the leaves, does that speed up development of the sprouts by providing more Sun exposure? Thanks!

Nitrogen.....I live in Mississippi.....you and I must add it to our soil to get these babies to put out. I tried to grow them for 3 years before I figured that out. You can test your soil or just go get fish emulsion and water it in.....then, in the fall use cow manure and till it in. Manure takes time to break down so its slow.....the The fish emulsion works fast because you water it in. Try it and see if that's your issue.

It said you could start in August and run through the last frost. Which would probably be somewhere in 1st of March
