I see a lot of us agree with you that the FAKES like Mosimo and Golden Beard do get tons of views (which is sad), but the best part is reading comments on Beards videos. It's crazy how uneducated people are on gold and how it forms, weathers out, and deposits. I say yes, keep making "clickbait" thumbnails, it doesn't bother us real viewers and can only help to increase your traffic....and hopefully peoples knowledge about the facts of how gold works. Awesome video! I'd love to crevice that Frazier area, you kill there all the time!

If there's one thing I've learned from Golden Beard, it's that multi-ounce gold nuggets and 500 carat diamonds "form" and are extremely common right in young volcanic deposits, like relatively recent basalt flows and piles of pumice, and such. ;-)

    Dear Dan
    I watch your videos regularly.
I live in southern NM, so I thought I'd never have a chance to find gold.
Yesterday, as I was fossil hunting in a dry creek bed, I found gold. I stood there in awe, screaming "l am Dan Hurd Jr!"
I can't thank you enough for the education and entertainment you've provided me through the years.

What got my sub in the first place was his down to Earth honesty like "hoping to earn" subscriptions rather than begging or resorting clickbaits to get them. This thumbnail sadly suggests a departure from that original philosophy.

Dan you were on some great gold today. That thin long nugget you got in that small crack with your putty knife was so great to watch you get out!!! Hey a tip I learned was if you can’t get wet sand with the gold all off the bedrock by sweeping or vacuuming, you can take a wet sponge and wipe the bedrock clean. If you don’t have a sponge with you, you can gather a bunch of moss, which is plentiful where you are, rinse all the dirt out of it, then use it as a sponge wiping the bedrock. Rinse it out continually in a pan of water and wipe the bedrock til you get all the sand and gold off it. I have gotten all the gold sticking to the wet sand off bedrock this way. Nature’s solution- use the moss!

Considering the changing routes and diminishing depth of ancient rivers that used to flow above the height of even elevated fields, millions of years of gold deposits built up in locations far from current river edges/beds - there are pay streaks all over the world that are nowhere near rivers. That’s why places like Prospecthill in Glasgow exist. It & a site in N.London have been flagged to me as places of former gold mining. The nearest rivers are 500-1500m away but 2-3000yrs ago that land would’ve been river base. I wondered one day why I was suddenly IP Geolocated to a ditch in a French Farmers field - eventually, I noticed the nearest river was in alignment with the dry ditch so I went to ancient maps & discovered “I” was positioned at the furthest inland point of where France’s longest TIDAL river *used to reach*. Suddenly that curious marker seemed less random. Years ago I had a strange dream of being on an old ship - I’d lost my right arm during Battle. I’m also IP pinned to the former location of the columnar Crimean war memorial in Sheffield, called “Victory” - coincidentally/not, the name of Horatio Nelson’s flagship. In the tv comedy Detectorists Lance finds something in a field & says “BOAT” (but off a tractor) this is followed by unearthing of bits of a ww2 plane that when tipped look *exactly* like a multi-masted old sailing ship. I suspect much refined gold could lie in landlocked fields that long ago used to be ship navigable tidal waterways ; )

    • @procrastinator1727
      @procrastinator1727 5 лет назад +1

Doubt it... all the nuggets are pretty water worn indicating they've traveled quite a distance. Not to say those spots won't "replenish" to a degree, as gold will still move downstream and be dropped in the same spots. But gold close to the source will be far chunkier and rough (also typically you'd find specimens) compared to the stuff he's getting out. Still amazing spots though.

Thanks Dan, you have no idea how much your videos mean to me. I really appreciate the time you take to make and edit your videos. I love the outdoors and because of my health I'm not able to get out as much as I would like to. You are a gem. Please ignore those that would bring you down because it is evident what a stellar man you are. It is a dream of mine to one day visit BC and do a bit of prospecting. Here in northern Utah in the US we have a lot of fine flour gold with the occasional nugget. The majority I hear is along the American Fork area. Anyway, thanks again. Today is my B-day and this video had been yhe highlight of my day thus far. Cheers!

New viewer and subscriber. Love the video and the gold. That Frasier river looks like a serious hazard. It looks cold, fast, and deep. I could only imagine how it would look in the springtime.

You’re a teacher. You’re lucky to get out on the weekend. Been there, papers to correct, meetings, lesson plans. You’re doing great keep the video’s coming. Besides, after a week of being around the “blessed little darlin’s” as I used to refer to them, just getting out in all that beautiful bit of creation is well worth it. Gold or no gold, just lifting safeties is worth it.

You might invite them down _there._ :-) Got some pretty good gold in Klamath/Siskyous still. Still rich "pocket gold" (like in the _All Gold Canyon_ story by Jack London) deposits waiting to be found (not easily). And heck, one can still get a gram or 2 of gold out of 4 or 5 classified buckets, right off of I5, in some of the South Umpqua gravel bars south of Roseburg (if you know which ones, and how to find the pay streaks).
The Rogue drainage does have a lot of claims staked, though.

    Hello Again Dan!
I truly enjoy all of your videos.
In this case though...and you please show (like maybe an aerial view from google) of the river?
I don’t want specific locations (it would be of more use to me since I live in the lower 48). I just want to compare the structure to what I have in my area (which has little if any visible bedrock).
I love crevicing in the washes and arroyos when I go to Arizona but here I gave a tough time finding bedrock and even the. It’s always, ALWAYS on the outside of a bend and scoured clean.
As always...keep the great videos coming!
Oh..one more thing...I don’t know about others but I for one could learn a lot from a series on gold geology like you teach in your classroom. Have you thought of doing a series of short videos like that?

Great work once again. I can totally relate with the day job thing... I build roads in Northern Wyoming and Southern Montana. Very long days and weeks for 9 months of the year, rarely have a weekend off. When we hit freeze out and cannot work, it is not ideal to prospect.

I am totally clueless about what you are doing, however, it did not stop me from being intrigued . What you do must be profitable enough to have all that equipment to unearth the gold. Your video was indeed entertaining, and I got the feeling you loved the beauty of the area you were panning in ....WOW what a way to spend your weekend. The number of likes on you channel would indicate you have a hugely popular channel..it is nice when doing what you love rewards you in such a large way. I do not know how RUclips thought I would like your channel (which I did)...must be because I love watching people searching the south china sea and fresh wate ponds for natural pearls.

I live in south Mississippi so I’ve never had the chance to go searching for the gold.
