Now,if we could just build overhead (catenary) electric powered (from nuclear energy) passenger only rail lines across the whole US with trains averaging between 250 to 300 mph we’d be riding high. (100 mph is no big deal, except for relatively short lines) we’d be sittin’ real pretty. That’s the problem when you’re running 2 mile long freight trains with cars capable of carrying around 300 tons each,on the same track. Plus, the freight trains have higher priority, unless it’s the Amtrak DC to Boston Acela and express lines. Europe, Japan and China are decades ahead of us in this transportation domain.

The demand isn’t there to justify it either. Us Americans like to drive or fly. Me personally I’d rather drive from for example Detroit to Chicago rather than ride Amtrak. I get to stop and get something to eat where I want, get off the highway if I spot something interesting, and don’t half to put up with a potential bad passenger that’s causing problems.

I wouldn't mind. I've used the Acela and love it. I have also done the Silver Star/Meteor over the years. Flying is not what it used to be (the low cost carrier thing has even permiated the majors). No traffic, road rage, tolls etc. Would love to see more comprehensive rail like Europe. (PS, never had a miserable pax on a train and ditching one would just be a stop away, not hours delay from 30k feet.).Lots less drama by train.

@@artiedelimitros9443 Yes, but driving for 5+ hours can be tiring for a driver, particularly if you are elderly, even if you stop for coffee, toilet, and lunch breaks.

      @@ednorton47 very good point!
Plus, one can always get off the train at a stop and do some exploring while waiting for the next train. Granted, there would have to be huge investments in creating the infrastructure to create frequent service on all the lines. Then, one doesn’t want to have to wait until the next day for another train. Of course, there are people who would be fine with waiting a day.

@@DanMeyer80 Speed limit is 110 through here. More than likely still accelerating though as it heads west from Kalamazoo. It'll be doing 110 real quick as they hit that well before Lawton.

@@DanMeyer80It’s hard with trains to gauge speed because they are so long it makes them look slower. I would say he is going at least 90 plus here

It is good that the people in america get used to fast trains. Here are two examples of a portuguese intercity train speeding up to 110 mph. Filmed inside and outside. ruclips.net/video/m3RudnETNZU/видео.htmlsi=RAELKn98Ce_72n71 ruclips.net/video/V1SrgIeyzkQ/видео.htmlsi=bcd9YxIaDQAAuvjV

No apologies needed, just defending his video because I've had this said on mine as well. Picture a semi-truck on the expressway going about 68mph, and then you see this on video, and realize how fast it looks like it's going. Enjoy!!

Trains on this route are permitted to travel up to 110 mph as they have positive train control and the track and signals have been upgraded accordingly. Amtrak owns the track between Kalamazoo, MI, and Porter, IN. While on-board a train on this route, my GPS at times registered 112 mph.
