Up until about 5 years ago I ran the 3 highest rated OTFs in the country. Took hundreds of classes and met thousands of members. Saw soooo many transformed lives and bodies. Then went into my own workout routine of strength and HIIT. But I still swear by OTF 110% to this day and just started taking classes again to complement my regiment. And boy -- I missed it. OTF is everything it's cracked up to be. With that being said, here are some things I picked up over the years:
    1. Wear your monitor properly. In almost all cases the HRM worked but it was not work the correct way. You will find your sweet spot. (And do NOT leave it plugged it constantly.)
    2. Form form form in the weight room. Stop rushing through the sets. Breathe and take your time. And do NOT jump the rails. And do not hold the handles if you're on an incline. You're messing up your hips.
    3. It is NOT your goal to be in the red (ALL OUT) or even orange (PUSH) a lot. Your goal is just 12-20mins. Tops. As time goes by you will find yourself less in either because your body is adapting. So up your weights, speed and/or incline but see #2.
    4. You should be in the orange/red mid-way through the given time. Meaning: if your push or all out is 60sec, pace yourself that you hit your color by 30sec. 90sec: 45sec. Then pace yourself that when you stop, you can get back into green (base) before the next set.
    5. 3-4x a week. TOPS. You need rest days. And 3hrs at OTF is like 9hrs working out on your own.
    6. It takes about 30 days to feel a change; about 90 to notice a change. Even if subtle, you will have improved in a number of ways. But even if you don't see a massive physical difference, what's going on inside is improving. Plus, you could still weigh the same but built muscle. That's good.
    7. 80% diet, 20% workout. Something to that effect. Make sure to eat and eat right. Doesn't matter if you burn 1000 calories then eat 2000 in pizza that night.
    8. In the weight room, your last rep should be TOUGH. If you keep breezing through your sets, you need to increase your weights. Make it that your last reps are always hard. But see #2.
    9. Guys, you can build muscle at OTF. Whatever the weight section is, turn it into strength. Just up the weight and lower the rept. On treads, increase that incline and walk. Or up those gears on the strider. (My personal fave.)
    10. NO ONE IS JUDGING YOU. 99% of our new members we had were not gym rats. Not by a mile. Nobody is looking at you. They're all just trying to get through the workout. So don't be scared. Trust me: the staff is rooting for you and members aren't even noticing. They were just like you. So let's Goooooooo.
    11. OTF is a great complement. So again, try to do 3-4x a week especially if you're new. As time goes on, add things like yoga, Pilates, gym, whatever.
    12. Anecdote: every so often we would get a jacked up, buff dude taking a class. Usually dragged in by an SO because guys are taught that cardio is bad. Anywho, these guys were ripped but could barely make it through 10min of class. Why? They've been so focused on muscle, they forgot about their heart and everything that it entails. Just another reason OTF is great: keeps the heart pumping, the oxygen flowing. A car can look great on the outside, but what oil and gas are putting in it?

I started looking into Orangetheory in August-stumbled upon your videos and it convinced me to give them a try. Had my first class on September 1st and I’ve been addicted ever since.
I think the most motivating factor for me is that my endurance and speed has gone up so so much in just this short 4 months. In fact, I just ran my first 5k without stopping even once! I’ve never done that in my entire life. I’m also full of energy (I’m was notorious in my office for being a professional desk napper) and can bring all of my groceries upstairs in one go.
Thanks for doing what you do! If you are ever in NY, come visit the Albany OT. :)

  • @gwendaking

The OT folks need to run you some money. 😂 Because of your videos I’ve taken the leap and signed up for the free class. I already know I’m going to sign up for the unlimited classes. I always do well in group classes, but lose motivation working out by myself. I think this is what I’ve been looking for.

@@mrsmarzka if you're honest with yourself w your diet, you can't fail. normal guys need 2200 cal. if you intake 1800 -1500 with light workouts, your body will have to burn the fat. its easier said then done of course but will power to not eat junk food and eating healthy is a life style you will have to stick with. you WILL see results if you stick to it.

I joined June 2018 and had never seen your videos until today 2/17/19 cruising through you tube. ... but I feel EXACTLY the same way!! OTF changed my life in EVERY way! I joined in a time in my life where nothing made sense and I couldn't finish figuring me out after a horrible heartbreak. I was a power walker from 6/5 - 11/8 then my favorite coaches pushed me to run and honestly, everything changed again from then forward! The community, the new friends, the non judgmental support, the new life you get to be a part of when you commit to Orange Theory Fitness is truly amazing! Andrew, thank you SO much for what you've created. I found you a year ago when I was considering changing from boot camp at a cross fit gym to OTF. Thanks to you, the Fat Tuesday Fam and the entire OTF experience I've stuck with it for 9 mos. and counting. No one thought I would consistently get up before 6 a.m. and go to the gym 5 days a week (I slack 'til 7 on Saturdays....). I'm ready to get the weight off me (so much left to do), but thanks for the inspiration! This is your mission/your calling!

You’re the man Andrew! You’ve inspired many people & are changing lives more than you know. I look forward to every Tuesday for your videos & absorbing all of the love & positivity from the likes of you, Jay, & others.
A lot of people need to hear your stories because we all see the changes of you vs all of the celebrities. While they have their own one on one personal trainers, chefs, and others telling them what, where, & when to do stuff to get their results & all of that...you represent the common Joe. Representing the at least if not more...the 95% of the country that can’t have all the access celebrities do. We see you vs them & know that change is indeed possible.
From all of the highs & lows we know as we watch you, we gotta keep on keeping on. I know I was discouraged after my ankle injury kept me out of action for awhile(which led to kinda a lotta weigh gain due to soda, grease, gummy bears, & God knows everything else I indulged in when I was bored & couldn’t go. It was annoying& depressing as I ruined all the work from years prior. I kept some motivation while watching the videos.
So while #199.9ordietrying was a failure this year, as long as I’m alive it’s not too late & I’m gonna get there, hopefully before June and I turn 40.
I was gonna write more, but just noticed you went live and don’t wanna miss out! Thanks again Splat Brotha!

    Congratulations!! That’s awesome!!
I can totally relate to what you said about feeling great on sometimes and not so good other times. I just completed my 1 Year at OTF this past Nov! And I feel so amazing!! I lost 60 pounds in this past year!! I went from size 14 to a 4 (going into a 3) and X-large to a small in shirt size. I am beyond grateful to OTF! It totally works. I also changed my diet completely.
Never have I been able to use 25 pound weights in each hand till now. The most I could do was 8 pounds prior to OTF. Now I can do push-ups and burpees. It feels awesome that I don’t need to modify exercises anymore like I did in the beginning.
    Again, congrats on your progress!
    Btw, love the videos!!

I have been watching you for a year. I am also an OTF ADDICT!! I proudly wear that label. I too, was discouraged after my first time. I blew out my knee leaving a class. Had surgery and was back at OTF 4 months later! I also joined because I was not happy with my shape. So now, I am on keto, intermitten fast 3 times a week and have lost 53 pounds since March! I LOVE my Cibolo OTF! The best coaches and best workout friends ever! Keep going strong! God has amazing things in store for you. Keep your eyes on Him and He will direct your path! Happy 2019!!

Happy 1 year! Congratulations on your accomplishments! I love this video! I also cried when the Coach became emotional. I have noticed the positive vibes on the page also and it's been great. I like how folks will joke about the workout and it's a kind heart/soul page! Thank you! Still awaiting for your TN journey, but I will celebrate with you across the states. Keep it up! Lastly, yes, food is the key...it's seriously like 20% workout (maybe less) and the remaining food. I had to do OTF 2 years to realize this and my 3rd year with better changes in food has made the difference. Planks are still hard though...I'm not an expert plank gal yet. Hope you and your lovely wife (plus the pups) had a Merry Christmas!

When I signed up for orangetheory the first time around, there was NO information on what the workout was going to be. I went in blind. I had to quit because of some family hardships and I joined again last October 2017. I found your channel shortly after, and I've watch every video along with your journey. I have been going to OTF for over 1.5 years and ABSOLUTELY love it. I am so excited to see everything that OTF has done for you. CONGRATULATIONS on the incredible results and the determination to keep going. The one thing that resonated most with me from your video is about self-love. I feel exactly the way you do about your body - I have lost over 20 pounds and 2-3 dress sizes (which is crazy significant) and yet most of the times I see my body as pretty much the same as before. Wonderful!
I remember Stumbling across your first video at the beginning of my own OTF journey and I feel like your videos and the community around them have helped inspire me. I’m sure this is the case for many viewers and Facebook fam members.
Your honestly and willingness to share struggles as well as successes makes your channel an invaluable resource to so many.
To speak to your comments at the end of the video. - we too often compare ourselves to an “ideal” or “perfect” model for what we want our bodies and lives to be. While this gives us goals - it can also be damaging to our own self-esteem. We need to remember that all personal progress needs to be measured against the only valid metric - our own journey.
Getting “magazine abs” may seem to be the goal - but being healthy and happy is the real outcome to seek. Each day being the opportunity to make decisions that elevate us and close the gap between where we are and the best self we aspire to.
So never be afraid to “take your shirt off” or to celebrate the successes small and large. Time will take us to where we are destined and determined to go.
Is the journey to fitness a daily, weekly, monthly, yearly - or lifetime goal? It’s ALL of those.
Congratulations! - and continued success ahead!

I loved that idea about "updating your mind" when it comes to self love. It is SO true. Our thought patterns become such a habit, and it's hard to change bad habits! We update everything else in our life - it's time to update our minds!

I’ve done a lot of different types of exercise clubs & memberships, Bally, Jazzercise, Planet Fitness, Personal Training, Title Boxing. I did Jazzercise for over 20 years- loved the music but could not take one more minute of looking at those old women (myself included). I tried Title Boxing next because I needed to be around men & testosterone & sweat. I stuck w/ that for 5 years & liked it a lot. Like most things, the club that was convenient closed down, a couple of the favorite instructors moved on, so I gave that up in favor of OT. I’ve been @ OT since Memorial Day. I think it’s been my favorite so far. The extreme accountability is good (and bad) but I am a person who needs accountability. I have a perfectly nice gym @ my apt complex but after about 10 minutes, I am bored. I need instructions, someone to follow & numbers to beat and loud music. Loving OT so far. I cant say I’ve noticed improvement, but it’s better than sitting around in the divan gobbling down chips.

I'm glad that you talked about the self-love aspect of your weight-loss journey. I completely felt the same way I felt like going through this journey of becoming a better me I have been able to understand myself a little better and appreciate myself more. I always thought of it as not just a health and weight-loss journey but a mental health journey as well.

Hi friend! Welcome to my channel!! I will say, one of the most beautiful parts about Orangetheory is that it fits everyone's journey - no matter where you are in your journey. They have modifications for every exercise too so don't worry about not being able to accomplish something while in class. It's judgement free and welcoming. It changed everything for me and I believe it's a way out of a rut. If you end up trying it out, let me know! Thanks for watching my videos!!! ❤️

Love your channel I just hit 190lbs joined OTF yesterday, I tapped out at 50 min because I was having some exercise induced asthma but completed entire workout today I did have to go much slower.I asked not to wear my wristband so that I didn't feel pressured to do more than I can handle i was a little embarrassed that I barely was in green zone. It was tough I didn't even realize I had gotten so out of shape I could not even do a push up.I trying to do 3 times a week at the least. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation!
