5 years later and I just booked a trip to the Barossa Valley, this ad had a lot to do with that decision. Even after all these years this advert stuck in my head. Good work to the filmmakers
Undoubtledly one of the best ads ever made. Pure class. Only regret is that I have never gotten to experience it in large screen movie with surround sound.
this ad stuck with me becasue it was a tourism ad that showed the audience everything you're not supposed to see, it showed brutality, danger, mystery and thats what made it stand out. Great work to the people that made the ad, I hope it worked
Best ad I have seen for years.. ticks all the boxes. Fabulous. Beautifully shot, sound track is outstanding. Mysterious, engaging. Barossa will be on my list of 'to do's"
Holly frack, nailed it. My kind of ad. Give them the crown jewels, finally someone that knows a good thing when they see it. You just melted my face in the best possible way. I wanted to visit but now I want to move
It is brilliant!!! Nick Wagner - the reason it is so good is it doesn't go down the stagnant old traditional tourism path. It shows beautiful food and connection to the land which are emotional hooks that drive people to visit the Barossa. It appears to be incredibly well researched marketing. The fact that it has had over 8,000 views in less than 12 hours means that it has good viral spread, which means it is highly effective.
I like this ad, very earthy and basic. It does show the Barossa in summer, very dry. It is very green at the this time of year. Some scenes in Spring would have balanced this. Some have said the song is misplaced but to me it suggests the grape stained hands of the winemakers. Barossa reds are world class.Overall an ad that does not treat its audience as idiots.
We're NOT from Barossa therefore are technically the 'audience' for this ad being potential tourists and... we LOVE IT! See you soon, Barossa! Very tantalising advertising.
Actually the term Red Right Hand is from Milton's Paradise Lost, and refers to the vengeful hand of God. But the point that it's an interesting choice for an ad stands.
I was really taken by this ad and am amused by the comments on this video. I suppose what is important (for an ad promoting tourism) is to entice consumers, which I think this does but if and when I do visit it will be interesting to explore how my expectations match up with the reality.
The song has no relationship to the ad, according to the Ad producer, apart from being a stiring background to the visual imagery..which it achieves for me. Personally I love the Ad and I live in the Barossa. What I get out of it is probably a whole lot different than the next person. I think that was the ad makers intention.
What a load of rubbish Nick. It is evocative and aspirational. There is more to the Barossa than wine and the choice of Red Right Hand for the backing track (except for those with limited imaginations) conjures up images of winemaking and toiling on the land. People respond to visual stimulus and this ad delivers that in spades. I also live in the Barossa and I am very proud of that ad.....and the response has been overwhelmingly positive from what I have seen in the press and on social media.
I live 40 mins drive from the Barossa. I love this area and visit every time I'm physically able and have been going since I moved to SA 25 yrs ago. There is nothing in this ad that is indicative of any experience I've ever had in the area and I can understand the locals disappointment with this ad .. It misses SO much of what is glorious and amazing about this jewel of a region. Instead we got .. ladybugs .. and stuff. Totally missed the mark much.
So the beautiful food, wine and scenery is not indicative of Barossa? You never mentioned what you thought should have been in the add for comparison, so there's really no alternative that you offered for scrutiny other than being a negative nancy.
I find it hilarious that youtube puts ads in front of ads. That aside, I am completely baffled by this ad, it looks like a bunch of hipster wankers form Melbs got together and thought "yeah this confusing jumble of imagery will entice punters out to wine country".
As one living in the Barossa and very much a player in our tourism services I am very disappointed by this commercial - essentially it is an arty farty piece of photographic poetry that offers no motivation to come all the way over to our Barossa Valley, unless your into playing in the dirt or you like outdoor picnicking.
It is still a piece of arty farty disappointment. The imagery is highly fanciful and evokes what? Its all about the food? Direct from the land? Gorge yourself on epicurean delights? Play in the dirt that sustains it all. What a disappointment when tourists arrive to find dirt gravel roads, poor tourist infrastructure, and traffics jams in Murray Street!
still my favourite ad 2024
Watching this in 2021 bc it’s still an incredible Aussie commercial. Makes it look so dangerous and wild to visit.

My 2 years in Oz coincided with this ad being played at every screening. so great.
I had the exact same experience Colum! palace cinemas ftw
The guy who directed this ad has the same name as you, so that's a fun coincidence
Alllahhhh
First saw this when I was 11-12 years old. I still watch this every year. The soundtrack and cinematography portray the experience perfectly. Love it!
Still coming back to this in 2023...

What an awesome commercial all credit to the producers...I have been in advertising for 20 years and rate it big time....Love Nick as well.
Do you know who directed it?
what about the director of photography

This ad makes me think if I go to the Barossa I will be murdered by Ghost Face from the Scream movies.
Best ad I have seen for years.. ticks all the boxes. Fabulous. Beautifully shot, sound track is outstanding. Mysterious, engaging. Barossa will be on my list of 'to do's"
WOW! What a spectacular video. The music is BRILLIANT!! Gotta love Nick Cave.
about time someone made a great ad for south australia.great work love it :)
I always think of big Barossa reds as somehow brooding and dangerous. Perfect song. Great cinematography. I love it.
this defined my childhood

outstanding Commercial - im deeply impressed! Respect and thumbs up for this great piece of work!! Cheers
Great soundtrack + emotive visuals = maximum impact!
Totally great advert - fantastic

Great add. Great song!!
Very good ad yes. It reminds me of The Hills have Eyes and I'm surprised people aren't commenting about how scary it is.

One of the best ads I've seen in my life! S U P E R
watching peaky blinders and can only think of this ad lmaoo
so good !!!
So much to love about this.
Fantastic Ad. Really captures the feel of the Barossa ! Who is the artist who did the soundtrack ?
This is all I can’t think of at the start of Peaky Blinders

Meraviglioso!
Red Right Hand - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Awesome!
red right hand from wine making perhaps?
Nick Cave - Red Right Hand
Red Right Hand is about the coming of the Devil. Interesting choice for tourism promotion.
It is an impressive commercial... but could have been filmed anywhere with a meadow and an abundance of groceries!
Yeah she's a belta.
Well this doesn't suck and so much tourism advertising does..
Ironic that the last words are "be consumed"

Whoa!
"Be consumed", no I don't think I will.
NIce ad well done to those involved in the production. Vegetarians need not apply!
So what does this song have to do with the barossa?
why does it need to be? every commercial has to have a song thats about that product? i don't think so mate

I hate wine. Love the commercial though, it's so visceral...obviously ain't for everyone.

🅱 arossa
South Australia should be called Central Australia because the real south of Australia is Tasmania.
Holy frack, turn your volume down before this thing starts. Your ears will thank me.
Propaganda, this disgusts me. If only you knew the true nature of this accursed land.
So much death. Dead soil…..
