sounds like you made the right call once he was there. With kids at the house, probably a good idea. I doubt you can fit a cord in that truck but Im sure you can let it dry and still do ok. Sucks, but thanks for sharing. Have good day man.
If you are in the firewood business, you should be cutting stacking firewood, not buying firewood seems like you were trying to cut corners by buying a cheap load of wood and then doubling your money. And in the end you got had.
Travis you learned a valuable lesson here; marketplace is not a place you will buy high quality firewood. You were looking for cheap wood and that’s what you got. Maybe in future, buy a load of logs from a logger that you have seen his business, you can buy a cord for roughly100/cord from some loggers, then the onus of quality is on you. If someone shows up with firewood in the back of a f-150, and it’s a 5 1/2 ft bed, it’s probably not gonna be a full cord. Don’t be worried about saying no to some guy if his product doesn’t meet your standards.
This is the kind of guy why i have had guys show up with moisture meters and tape measures and checking before i am out of the trunk. As for me, this is the reason I have never bought split wood. Too many out there screwing everyone. We will have to get you set up with logs. So at least you get a constant amount. On a better note, Merry Christmas to you and your family 😉 👍
Reading that, Dan, makes me feel better about approaching the truck right away with my meter and tape ready. Logs coming as I type this, stay tuned. Merry Christmas brother. Keep cuttin'!
Yep, I've rejected a load of logs. Here in MN there are load limits in the spring, and my normal logger couldn't bring me a 10-12 cord load. I found someone local that could get me a 4-6 cord load. They showed up, it was stuff that had been standing dead for at least 2 years. I tried hooking him up with a neighbor who could use it for boiler wood but that didn't work out, and he left pissed. Oh well. I do quality over quantity. 😊
Hi Travis, Merry Christmas. Someone once told me, "Experience is what you get when you don't get what you want." If you have never been in that situation, it is difficult sometimes to figure out what to do as things are happening. Personally, I would have asked for a discount or would have rejected the load, but that is easy for me to say since it is not my money. You have every right to be upset, but in the grand scheme of things, it's only firewood. Your health, family, and friends are way more important. Look at it this way, you spent time and money to get an education, and no one can ever take that away from you.
I like this guy's reply, "experience is what you get if you don't get what you want", so as upset as you are you learned a good lesson that could save you thousands some time in the future. It's happened to me and I hated it, but it won't happen again. Lesson learned with very little lost. Count your blessings
Travis, sorry you had to deal with that. I think if I had met him somewhere else I would have refused. You're concerns are valid about him knowing your location, you have more to lose,,, he can spread lies about your firewood business, or vandalize your property. I was in a similar situation awhile back, but I was on their property. I tried to negotiate a lower price, and explained all the ways the wood they offered did not meet our agreement. But they seemed to not understand what "wet" or "green" wood was, when they would not lower their price I just left. They were screaming at me as I drove away but oh well.
I just don't trust people anymore. I left a bad review afterwards and I don't think he can read very well so I'm not concerned. I think next time, if there is a next time, I'll refuse the load. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Tough situation. Sorry about the frustration. I’m kinda doing something similar (I ran low on firewood to sell, so I looked to marketplace). I’ve bought (what turned out to be) 7 full cords of seasoned wood from a local sawmill that was stacking their rejects for the last year or so. So far so good. Made several videos about it so far. Thanks, good video, new subscriber! -Brad
I have local saw mills in my area but most sell their scrap to make sawdust/chips to be sold. It's good to have connections. Wish my arborist contacts would drop wood in my yard more often. New sub as well, I'll start watching your channel. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
I’ll admit that as a firewood nerd, I’m probably much more of a fussy customer than most of the folks I sell to. You are the same way and our high standards keep customers happy. 👍 Also, in this scenario, I’m guessing some of your frustration is at your own inability to refuse the load. While I certainly understand your frustrations, IMO, because you saw the issues while the wood was still on the truck, when you accepted the load the only person you can now blame is yourself.
I bought a load of pole logs was told it was seasoned ready to burn. What I received was half rotten logs and some even hollow. What was some solid wood had a moisture percentage of 55% red oak. I was so mad
I had a similar story the last summer. Guy had logs on his property sitting for a while and assumed by then they were "dry". Traveled an hour up there and started cutting. All of the logs were punky and worthless. I was pissed too. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
I’ve come to the conclusion that in my area of Northern Tennessee, consistency in firewood length and size and dryness is hard to find. Haven’t yet found anyone who consistently cuts their firewood 16” long. I have started asking people whether they split the firewood into football size or softball size pieces. Tim
My guess is 3/4 to7/8 of a full cord. However if you resplit the larger pieces it should grow a bit. It would be interesting to see you split and restack it to see what you really end up with. Peace
The only thing I can say brother…IF I had to buy wood to get by it would be from someone I know. That’s super easy here in Vermont because there’s 20 people with 15 miles selling wood. I’m getting old but young enough to still tell someone to turn their truck around and head home. Plenty of guys like that everywhere man. Definitely a lesson on how some folks operate.
Good call, Mike. Sadly I may only have one person who I'd use again/refer to people but his firewood currently I know is green. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
I think you like I did should make a cage 4x4x8 and stack the wood in it to season or store. Then you know how much you get. Some of the short cords I got I called them up and they said they count the skid loader bucket worth 4 scoops per cord that is just stupid , I am going to buy my own equipment next spring.
Did you use a moisture tester? Freshly split wood can be dry, especially if it was standing dead or cut years ago also smells like fresh cut wood Also split fir can also be dry using a moisture tester also can be rained on that is only surface moisture not internal moisture We sell a lot of fire wood full decks of logging truckloads been sitting between 2 1/2 in three years not bucked When bucked and split moisture is around 14% to 18% Same with most dead standing trees
Yes I tested several pieces in the episode, tried to get a few from the middle of the pile. I'll resplit and stack this stuff and see what I can do with it. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
I ordered wood from a guy on Facebook marketplace, when he showed up, the wood was extremely punky and worthless. I told him I can’t burn that it’s no good, he left. He texted me the next day that he had good wood and did I’m you want it, I said yes. He showed up with about a third of a Cordes of punky wood again, I told him no I’m not gonna accept it. He said he was gonna sue me, I took a bunch of pictures real quick and I said, go ahead and sue me. I never heard anything from him.
Great video. Ive only bought firewood a couple of times. when i did buy a few ricks in the past for my father i go to them and check the wood out before i get it.
That is not a cord of wood. The bed on that Ford F150 was at best 6.5 feet long. I used to sell firewood in Mt. Vernon area when I worked at Boeing but have since retired and relocated to North Carolina. Whoever sold you that firewood ripped you off plane and simple. People like that make it hard for the rest of us to sell firewood because they give the rest of us a bad reputation. I would spread the word on this guy so no one else goes through the trouble like you did.
Good call, Chris. It's people like this "seller" that make my customers return to me again and again. I am sure Mount Vernon has a lot of firewood sellers too (I'm just south of there). Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Never bought wood. But that would have drove me crazy. Not sure what I would have done in that situation. But sure you wont have to deal with this character again.
Only had someone bring wood that wasn’t cured once, and no I didn’t except it. And wouldn’t care if they got pissed after all if I was paying for it, should be as advertised dry wood. Man 300.00 a cord is crazy, here in the north it’s 70 to 85 depending on how far away. I cut mine two years ahead , a lot of oak and it take almost two years to dry unless split small.
looks like 2/3 of a cord to me. Someone selling firewood like that is going to eyeball the lengths is not selling in a stand like you are. I have found some many local people want wood dried about 3 months and that is it...... that is for oak. Definitely not what I prefer but they get it going and like how long it lasts. I would certainly question the amount of wood however.
Hey Travis, I make bundles and I buy the majority of my wood. I have had bad experiences buying. I learned to ask all the questions in the initial message. I also started going to the suppliers yard to check out their operation first. The other day, I went to Harbor Freight and got 15" zip strips and started sliding them between the plastic wrap and wood, close the ends and now have handles. There is a video on my channel.
Just sub'ed to your channel, Mike. I'll check out your handle idea, sounds like a good one. Good call on checking out operations prior to green lighting a sale, esp for reselling. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
I found a local recycling business that sells heaping truck loads (rounds, softwood/hardwood mix, that I can pick through and load myself) for $20. For that price, I can hire the neighbor kids to split and stack for me. I'm far enough ahead of the game that I can allow it to season a year or two...sell some...donate some...burn some myself... Merry Christmas from Idaho
Merry Christmas, Mark. That sounds like a honey hole for sure. I have a place similar that I can load however much I want for free and it's like 10min from my house. Need to go there more often, ha. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Merry Christmas. I believe you handled it correctly, having a family to keep safe. Where I live we had a huge problem with firewood dealers in the 90s shorting people on full cords of wood. Our state created a commission to deal with this problem. Maybe your state does the same, I know it will be a burden to stack it where it is. Take a picture of it stacked, put on market place with a warning that you don't always get what you pay,do this without referencing any names. Contact your states attorney General office to see if they a way to stop people like this.
Merry Christmas Stephen. I am sure WA has some rules about selling firewood but I'm doing this as a side hustle, as this seller was. Good ideas, stay tuned. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
IMO, the first time buying wood, you should pick it up. You can measure, moisture test and refuse. Buyer beware stuff. OR you could have been pleased at length, moisture and quantity and used the guy in the future. He would have no clue where you live if things fall thru. Move on and buy from somebody else. Just how ido it with a stranger. Better luck next time.👍🪵
1. Loose thrown wood is 180 cubic ft. Stacked is 128 There is no way that is a cord. 2. A cord does not fit in a 6.5’ truck bed. 3. Do yourself a favor and plan on buying and dry storing firewood min 6-8 months before you need it. 4. Yes, you should have absolutely refused the wood as I have in the past. Sorry you got burned.
In PA USA you cant get a cord They are always short. I tried 4 different people all scams. One guy said 3 cages to the cord and showed up with 2 what a dush. Now I am the bad guy. he is probably a failed dentist. they are dushes too.
That dont look like a full cord. You should pile and measure it. I have no trouble telling people im sold out. Better to give nothing then to give junk wood.
Well that’s crappy! This is why people like us that do it right and always sell out and have repeat customers!! Here in WI we have concealed carry that helps the concern of them having a weapon and not being happy to deny the load. Merry Christmas Travis👍🎄
All true, Jeremiah. I believe we have that here too in WA, and I knew he wasn't carrying on his person (as his pants were falling down) he could have had something in the truck. I don't own a gun myself. Merry Christmas brother. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
I have bought wood maybe 10 times when I have run short, only 1 time out of 10 I have been happy with what I have received. Whether it has been a short load or wet wood, or somebody that definitely loaded it with a backhoe, and it was just caked full of dirt and bark. Every time I get mad at myself for not telling these people to foff. You probably have just over a half cord there, short bed 1/2ton truck 😢 anyway lol merry Christmas 🎄
Nobody reputable will sell on market place and the end user isn't really going to be a reseller like you. I'm on your side, but I would have done things differently, as in be in more control of the outcome. Choose a seller where you can go see it. Or, get logs delivered or reach out to farmers with dead trees to clear off their land. I don't know if this is your only source of income, but looks like you need to manage it differently. All the best
We need to have ways to insulate ourselves from the cheaters. One, if you don't know the seller, try ordering a small quantity first as a test of quality and quantity. Another idea might be to buy in log length, so you are processing yourself. A third is go to the seller to pick up so you know what your getting when you load it. A last suggestion is to buy during the season to maintain your inventory at a constant level. If you start September with 10 cords, and you sell two, buy two. Then your wood would be ten cords per year. May not make sense until you figure out a system, but lets just say customers are being taken advantage of in all sectors, from the grocery store to car insurance. The worse it gets, the more vigilant we need to be.
For sure, it would be ideal if there was more accountability for use firewood sellers and buyers. I'll continue to evolve my process. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Здравствуйте! С католический Рождеством вас ! С наступающими новогодними праздниками ! Здоровья крепкого , семейного благополучия и по меньше проблем ) Ну, и конечно , развития вашему ютуб каналу ! Вы настоящий трудяга!
I’m at the point that I will refuse a load that’s not acceptable and up to my standards. I bought my first load of logs from a guy that brought me wood that was decent at best. It got my business going. Then I bought my second load from another guy. I accepted it,…but I shouldn’t have, to be honest. There were too many logs that were too dry or had too much punk in them. So I went to Plan B. And that was to buy wood to flip. I have a young kid that sells me Aspen rounds by the cord. After the first load,…he understood the quality of wood that I needed and the importance of consistent lengths. I “donated” my mingo marker to him. It’s helped him out. I ordered 4.5 cords of oak from another guy. Went to pick up the first two. He was throwing wood punky rounds into my trailer, and I was tossing them out as I was stacking it. I told him that I didn’t want any wood with rot on it. They weren’t consistent in length. But I was in a pinch, because oak is like gold around here, and I needed it to really start to ramp up my business. I just go and pick up my wood now. That way I can just leave if I don’t want it.
Thank you for sharing your story, Amanda. Sucks to have to be in that position. I just should have taken in more wood last summer. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
I do not accept wood moisture content ubove 20% unless he's honest and tells me ahead of time so I can put it away, split if I have to and stack it for the following year. If I ordered a cord and they show up in a pickup and tell me that it's a cord, I will then send them on their way because they ain't delivering it to me!
Yes it sucks to have different size pieces especially if to short when selling saying they are 16 inch. But if stacked tight 4x4x8 it's a cord most of the time you can stack and get most air gaps out. But I agree it's bad practice to sell wood that is supposed to be totally different then you said. I would be upset honestly after the first day or 2nd day I would have said forget it he was being shady to me I would have thought something is wrong. Merry Christmas
Not sure either what I would have done, give him a bad review on market place, in the meantime look for a better supplier for the next time, someone you can trust, have a good day today with your family 🎄, 👍🚜
I got burned on some too I bought site unseen green and rot I want ever do it again luckily I have some seasoned wood to burn the green wood with like you all different sizes some 12 others 26 I will have to cut down and resplit I'm going to cut my own stack it in the barn to season for next year thats less than a face chord and sounds green I could tell by the sound when the piece you threw made a thud.
Not buying wet wood. I’ll start with a “thanks but no thanks” and if they want to escalate I’ll swiftly move into the “gtfo my property” that sucks it happened man. Tons of trash firewood sellers out there.
Agreed brother. I think that's why he brought a few 'friends' with him in his truck. I wasn't about to potentially start shit with a tweaker. Lesson learned. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Definitely not 8'. 98% of extended/quad cabs are 6-6 1/2'. I'd say, you said it's 16" it's not, you said it's dry it's not. Offer $75 less, if he says no send him home. Surprised it's the type he said.
@TravisDoesFirewood just thought of this while milking. Dunno how long you've lived there but I'm guessing you don't know a lot of people. Ask at a local saw dealer or two if they know anyone that sells good wood that you could resell.
Travis I haven’t sold any I have a lot if I did sell I would let them try some from what’s for sale they could inspect . If I purchased wood it has to fit in rather short than to long
OMG! I haven’t even finished the video and I’m already annoyed at the guy! Refuse the load. No way in HELL was that even a cord! And shitty random lengths! UGH! A loose thrown cord is 180 cubic feet, so my trailer is 5x10 and I pile wood 🪵 3.5 feet high to get a cord on! You’ve got way less than a cord there! So sorry for you! Maybe in the future, when you purchase wood to flip, go to the seller with your truck and/or trailer and if you don’t like the looks of the wood, you can decline the purchase and drive away!
That is not a cord of wood That's like face cord and a half cuz the 6 ft bed handles face cord of wood just thrown in that was a little bit taller than the bed so that's a face quarter and a half thrown in and for it being wet and different size I wouldn't even take it not for that price and I can't use it to burn in my house I have to season it. Sorry but I would not have took that load of wood
you cannot fit a cord in a pickup truck no matter how you fit it or how high your sideboards are. i deliver in a one ton dump truck with high sides and to fit a cord i must stack a tailgate row
Only a Kamala supporter says Happy Holidays, dont you know Trump said it's ok now to say Merry Christmas, he also explained why, the 411 is, it's a Lk 2:11 thing......
@@a-verybasic2 And those Jews and you are very much in error, they have rejected the birth of savior and crucified him, and all that still reject Jesus will one day face him and that could be sooner rather then later........ {{Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.}} ruclips.net/user/livenYqKKuCciVg?si=-sVly8lBcLMPSkgI
I would ask for discount on price, due to incorrect advertising, wet wood is not dry wood, period! Lengths so can deal with it, if majority is at correct lengths, but dryines is a key...
I did find a good firewood provider and I buy two Cordes a year ahead of time green, I get a better deal.
Good tip on accepting wood after dark
I'm not sure where I heard it, if I did, but it totally makes sense. I even tell my customers that, and they appreciate it.
Of course you can cancel a transaction before it happens. He lied about it being seasoned and 16 inches.
Thanks for watching, Robert, keep cuttin'!
We have been telling people we are sold out. Excited to be here!
If I do the same, I hope folks will come back in a few months. Eek! Thanks for watching, keep cuttin' brother!
sounds like you made the right call once he was there. With kids at the house, probably a good idea. I doubt you can fit a cord in that truck but Im sure you can let it dry and still do ok. Sucks, but thanks for sharing. Have good day man.

I have a lot of smaller pieces that I sell, 10”-12” etc, mixed in with the 16”-18”, but I stack the face cords high like 5’ high or better
The smaller pieces I call sell toss in an IBC tote but not when they're green. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!

have you bought wood before sounds like you shoud of been smarter then this

People like that make it hard for the rest of us to sell firewood because they give the rest of us a bad reputation. I would spread the word on this guy so no one else goes through the trouble like you did.
Good call, Chris. It's people like this "seller" that make my customers return to me again and again. I am sure Mount Vernon has a lot of firewood sellers too (I'm just south of there). Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Never bought wood. But that would have drove me crazy. Not sure what I would have done in that situation. But sure you wont have to deal with this character again.
Good call Mike. Stay tuned for my next plan. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
spruce can be good kindling, cottonwood, maybe if its free or real cheap
Good call, Brad. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Any market and species have different values. I can still make $ on that wood. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
looks like 2/3 of a cord to me.
For sure, Joe. It was a sucky situation. Still trying to calm down from it.
Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
that's 1/2 to 1/3 cord split with in the past week.
Good call, Jon.
Good call. It was a bad situation. Thanks for the tips. And thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
You need to buy loads of logs that’s the only way to make money selling firewood unless you can get the wood for free
Stay tuned ;) Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
There's def pros and cons. If I tell people I am sold out, I just hope they'll come back in a few months. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
I would refuse the load.
I would be polite and say it’s too wet I need something ready to burn so sorry for your trouble but this is no good to me
Good call Erin. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Well that’s crappy! This is why people like us that do it right and always sell out and have repeat customers!! Here in WI we have concealed carry that helps the concern of them having a weapon and not being happy to deny the load. Merry Christmas Travis👍🎄
Just like you, Jeremiah, I also sell out every year..
All true, Jeremiah. I believe we have that here too in WA, and I knew he wasn't carrying on his person (as his pants were falling down) he could have had something in the truck. I don't own a gun myself. Merry Christmas brother. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
I would have canceled the load the first day he put you off!! Just bad business!!
Yeah I should have done that.
Good call Dan. I def kick myself every time I don't refuse a load. Merry Christmas brother. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
You commented:" Nobody reputable will sell on market place." I think you just insulted a lot of good folks who are worthy of the free advertising
Exactly. Marketplace is our primary marketing area @@dayjobluke8
I appreciate the comment, Anthony and your sub. Def. a lesson learned. Stay tuned on my channel. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
that doesnt look like a cord. be curiouse to see if im wrong
I'll probably have to resplit and stack it so we'll see soon. Thanks for watching Mike, keep cuttin'!
Driving a short bed truck you got a half a cord at best
Boy I like this guy but he goes on like a Russian novel
Next time you'll see more action vs. chatting. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!

Good call. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
I think the writing was on the wall Travis.
I would have told him to take it back home.
Good call. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Good call, George. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Good call, Ryan. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Not sure either what I would have done, give him a bad review on market place, in the meantime look for a better supplier for the next time, someone you can trust, have a good day today with your family 🎄, 👍🚜
Bad review is the only think that I could do without him possibly coming back and giving me a hard time. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
It def sucks. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Good call, Brandon. If I buy split wood again, that's what I'll have to do. Thanks for watching brother, keep cuttin'!
@TravisDoesFirewood just thought of this while milking. Dunno how long you've lived there but I'm guessing you don't know a lot of people. Ask at a local saw dealer or two if they know anyone that sells good wood that you could resell.
You tell him this is not ehat I ordered and you don't want that crap😅
Good call, David. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
If it was over 16’’ I wouldn’t want it a couple under ok
Hey Ed, do you sell firewood too? Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Travis I haven’t sold any I have a lot if I did sell I would let them try some from what’s for sale they could inspect . If I purchased wood it has to fit in rather short than to long
Makes sense to me!
Pickup load is not a cord
Good call, John. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
All great ideas, Ken. It was a crappy situation. Stay tuned. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Good call Joe. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
I'll keep watching and keep cutting
Much appreciated, stay tuned!
you are some kind of nut right ?

Sounds like you know a lot about firewood. Love to have you on the Firewood Addicts Podcast on the channel. Let me know. Keep cuttin'!
you cannot fit a cord in a pickup truck no matter how you fit it or how high your sideboards are.
i deliver in a one ton dump truck with high sides and to fit a cord i must stack a tailgate row
Good call Andrew. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
Only a Kamala supporter says Happy Holidays, dont you know Trump said it's ok now to say Merry Christmas, he also explained why, the 411 is, it's a Lk 2:11 thing......
To each there own. 😏
Not everyone who watches my channel celebrates Christmas. Today is also the first day of Hanukkah.
That is not a smart comment. We say Happy Holidays to our Jewish friends and btw, they are very much conservatives.
@@a-verybasic2 And those Jews and you are very much in error, they have rejected the birth of savior and crucified him, and all that still reject Jesus will one day face him and that could be sooner rather then later........

I would ask for discount on price, due to incorrect advertising, wet wood is not dry wood, period!
Lengths so can deal with it, if majority is at correct lengths, but dryines is a key...
Good call. Thanks for watching, keep cuttin'!
