I've never metal detected in my life but really love to watch your well produced and presented videaos. I love the Eastern Hardwood forests of North America and Vermont reminds me very much of the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas and Oklahoma. Keep up the great work. Rich, Farnborough, U.K.
Brad, as always, never disappointed. That is a chicken coop thermometer. I believe. They were used in the mid 1800’s. They told the farmer at what the temperature was optimal for the eggs to hatch.
Were they "Moonshiners" living up there? Thermometer, bottles and stoppers, scales for measuring etc. They were self-sustained with chickens and other animals and gardens maybe.
Hey Brad, great video! I live in Arizona and am quite sure our weather is not alike, however rust is rust. One thing I love to use on old rusty tools and Knives is a good diesel soak. Usually what we call farming diesel out here. #2? I've had pocket knives clean up so good that you could open them, with a little delicate work. I just throw them in the bucket and forget about them for a couple of weeks. Glad to see your weather is warming up, was getting cold watching you. I'm a detectorist also but primarily look for gold nuggets and pickers. Yee Haa! Thanks.
Another great video some interesting and unusual finds. As always well presented with the shots of the wildlife and scenery a great addition and your presentation and engagement just gets better and better.
I new exactly what it was when you held it up. There are dozens of " bottle digging " channels I'm subscribed to and the term Hutch is what they use. These are rare and sometimes the stopper is still in them. Look up Adventure Archeology and this guy is in Alabama where I'm from. Good stuff like whats in your channel if your into stuff like that.
Sorry Brad, But I just seen on GMA, Looks like lot's of snow heading your way, and Stealth Diggers area also.. Hang in there, Spring will be here sooooon!
Nice video as always...oh by the way has anyone ever told you you look like Chris Daughtry the singer. Just watching him....kept thinking who does he look like...well to me I see the resemblance.
The flowered piece I think is either a hair clip or ladies sash buckle!! The Hutchinson stopper is a really cool find, awesome pocket knife, I love the IHP as I've only found one so far ☺ the harmonica reed and the other relics!! You're finds are so cool, it helps me keep excited with the finds we make in this wonderful hobby!!
Aaah yes, the Dislike Button, a relic from the OLD days of You Tube when one could perhaps judge the content of the video in question by comparison of the Likes to Dislikes. The symbol still clings on much like the handset symbol for Telephone but is basically worthless.
I've been rewarded more than once by gridding detecting sites and going back over the same area in the opposite direction. Keep on unearthing history young man, one find at a time.
Probably archeology students. They say metal detectorists destroy historical sites. They’d rather let a site get bulldozed to become a golf course than let us recover a coin anyone can buy on eBay. (From personal experience....)
Hi Brad, I was absolutely blown away by your toe tap find as the date November 29th is my Birthday, wow. I'm wondering if the item you found at 13:46 is a cigarette holder ??. Such a cool show this week and it's nice to see the snow all but gone for you folks there in Vermont. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx 💖
Cool finds as always.. To bad you had so much snow this year.. Was a great year for us here in Michigan. Very little snow and frozen ground.. Keep up the hard work.. Love the back stories.👍
Floral design curved bar is a barrette, most likely turn of the century era. Floral tube is part (ferrule) of a vanity makeup brush same era. Since you know their name, you can look on Ancestry to look at the Census entries to find the family and profession of the adults. The 1890 Census was destroyed in a fire, but you will likely find the answers in the 1880, 1900 and 1910 Census records.
The Hutchinson stopper should date roughly 1880 to 1915. You really need to expand your horizons Brad and obtain a bottle probe, all those home sites you hunt will have one or more privies which in those rural settings should be relatively easy to find, undug and un-dipped!
What you you thought was a pencil cover is actually decorative end on a ball ram for a black powder pistol . the back side is pushed in and rounded to fit under the barrel of the pistol. Nice find you don't see those very often anymore. Good video
Hey Brad . Im diggin on the thermometer scale being that it is from a company that was less than ten miles from my house . Kinda cool to see you dig one there in the Vermont mountains ! I do have one i dug here that is slightly older and from the same company . You should check into how the Oswego Harbor looked back then it is awsome history. Gl and HH out there can't wait for your next!
Nice old artifacts. I have seen old pencils that had a cap over the Sharp end similar to pens today. I have also found a thermometer scale, it too was folded up. One of the call outs was "blood heat" at 98.7, it was from the same time frame as your site. Thanks for another enjoyable video.
Another great Friday morning with an awesome video from GMMD! I think all the finds were cool today. Loved the pocket knife. Always great to see a new video from you!! 🥰
Hi matey. Its not just for a padlock cover. Some doors had them to reduce the draft even further. Or to reduce the amount of detritus gathering in the mechanism. Love your uploads. Thanks.
Shot gun shells... These people didn't even realize they were hunting on top of history. Another nice adventure. Much is taught with you & SDN...thank you for what you do for us.
I love when you are in the woods, i honestly feel like i am there with you. I have always loved the woods and there are plenty of woods in Maine. I have had 2 ATV's and have ridden the trails through woods and fields and logged over 25,000 miles.
Right before you pulled the pocket knife from the ground, and said this was a common find, I thought you were referring to the deer droppings next to the hole. LOL
Survival was the biggest occupation for those times. Homesteading was a brutal business. Great finds Brad 👍👍 The pencil end was very cool the other thing may be the end of a horsehair paint brush ?
Love that Pocket Knife. If you do re-blade it please show us some pics.
Very BEAUTIFUL STATE BRAD..... KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK AND STAY SAFE......
Brad, as always, never disappointed. That is a chicken coop thermometer. I believe. They were used in the mid 1800’s. They told the farmer at what the temperature was optimal for the eggs to hatch.
Beat me to it!
Not to be a wise guy. We all say it and are all wrong. There has never been a penny minted in the USA mint system for the USA. Cents are what we mint.
Do check on the side of the hills, pitching hills ?
Always look for a new video from you. I like going along w/ you. Great videos. 🙂🙂🙂🌟🌟🌟💙
Great finds and the mystery of what the people did continues.
The kids and i watched this tonight. Thanks for good videos i dont have to worry about what they hear. Beautiful country Brad!
You can double check with your friend Brandon over at adventure archeology, but I think you found a Hutchinson bottle stopper mechanism
It definitely is!
I believe that is an old bottle stopper, not sure, but it sure looks like one..
Keep up the good hunt Brad.
Were they "Moonshiners" living up there? Thermometer, bottles and stoppers, scales for measuring etc. They were self-sustained with chickens and other animals and gardens maybe.
Your soda bottle stopper is where the term pop came from. The bottle made a loud pop when you opened it. Looks like more snow your way.
Very enjoyable video, I would love to see that brass knife fully restored with a a shiney new blade.

At one time things were made to last a life time....or longer. The family seemed to not be really poor. Great video. Thank you.
It is so sad that things these days are not made to last anymore
Another great video. Loved the bottle stopper!! You live in such beautiful country. You're very luck!!
I like it how he shows the natural beauty of the place he is detecting at. It truly adds a lot to the character of the video. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Brad .. another interesting discovery walk thru the Green Mountains, and the start of my Friday .. stay well.
Another great video some interesting and unusual finds. As always well presented with the shots of the wildlife and scenery a great addition and your presentation and engagement just gets better and better.
happy friday everyone!
Pretty sure part of a bottle stopper

Great wrap-up! Your videos are as calming as they get....keep up the good work!
Thanks for recording your history finds and enlightening us on what things are. It definitely helps me to identify my finds! Keep digging buddy.
Love your videos Brad. Stay safe an I hope there are many more treasures to come.
Sorry Brad, But I just seen on GMA, Looks like lot's of snow heading your way, and Stealth Diggers area also.. Hang in there, Spring will be here sooooon!
The large, silver-plated piece looks like the ferrule of a paintbrush.
Or the end of an umbrella
Or maybe an old razor
Awesome video yet again! That knife cleaned up great!
Nice video as always...oh by the way has anyone ever told you you look like Chris Daughtry the singer. Just watching him....kept thinking who does he look like...well to me I see the resemblance.
Its really interseting how copper and brass scales made a big comeback the last few years.
Awesome way to start my day...coffee in hand and time with Brad. Thanks!!!
Good morning all!
Awesome video Brad thanks .
Another great educational and historical video . Keep up the great videos
Hello good morning awesome video the knife what a great find but all the finds help with putting the story about people living up on that mtn thanks

Pocket Knives are really high on my list of favorite things to find! As always such a great video!
Another amazing video Brad!!
Nice one! Thoroughly enjoyed this one, thank you

The bottle stopper & knife were very unique finds. Good video Brad.
The one person who disliked this video is the person who thinks we make the dirt dirtier when it’s disturbed.
or u have may hurt a worm !!!!! just say'n !!!!! ha,ha,ha,ha,!!!!!!
Trolls......theres always one
naw...just a bad aim. to be sure, they wanted to hit thumbs up, but were inept.
they are idiots

That looks like a barrette wore in the hair....maybe? BTW! Hello GMMD!
You do a nice job involving us in the way you explain items - bringing us along in the stories...
I've been rewarded more than once by gridding detecting sites and going back over the same area in the opposite direction. Keep on unearthing history young man, one find at a time.
JJ stands for Johnson & Johnson .. yep yep they made thermometers .. as for the brass tag I was thinking a hair barrette .. awesome finds
I was thinking hair barrette as well.
Welcome back for the metal detecting. Always happy to see a video up. Cheers.
That's a wonderful end to the day! I'm glad you were able to get out .....thank you Brad for taking us outdoors with you! Always my favorite!
Have a nice weekend! This was a good start to it. (Who heck downvotes???)
A sour grapes kind of person down votes.
Probably archeology students. They say metal detectorists destroy historical sites. They’d rather let a site get bulldozed to become a golf course than let us recover a coin anyone can buy on eBay. (From personal experience....)
@@frozengroundhog3543 oh. I had not thought about that.
It's easy to hit the wrong button accidentally.

A barrette was my thought too!

Great video Brad but looks like you got more snow headed that way. Thanks for sharing. Chris-"Preserving _the_ Past"

Beautiful scenery, great camera shots, and fascinating finds. You made my day.

Survival was the biggest occupation for those times. Homesteading was a brutal business. Great finds Brad 👍👍
The pencil end was very cool the other thing may be the end of a horsehair paint brush ?
I like your style. no hype. just good digs. Right on.
I liked this one. Nice variation of material.
That wire " thing" is a hutch bottle stopper..
👍🙂
Always enjoy watching your channel,,,seeing all the history is great,,stuff you dont even think about,,

Some amazing treasures today. And that pocketknife is fantastic. You’ve got to replace the blade and do a video on it. Stay safe !!
Nice day for you young man can't beat that 👍
Interesting to see. My dad had a brass pocket knife when I was little. He was born in 1909.
Enjoy watching from Japan.
Love your metal detecting videos miss getting to get out myself
