      this game was released on ps2 and ps1 yes on ps1 it sucks great but on ps2 it is completely improved and on ps3 with the backward compatibility of the game from ps2 or digitally it looks really good above all and the most accurate version because all the other versions only equal!

      the dubbing for a 2000 game is still good and gives a voice from a safe person to raymna counting that rayman 2 is very different from 3, in 3 the graphics change and on all platforms the game is the same with rayman having skins very good voiceovers in many languages and absurd graphics for a game released 3 years later especially after remastering in 2012

    This game actually looks REALLY good on Duckstation when upscaled with the wide-screen hack, and the texture warping fixed.
    With all that said, it's really telling of a game's quality when the "worst version" is still an incredibly solid and legit way to play the game

      @@ExtremeWreck Yep that's one of the 2 versions I would never touch in my life, the best versions are the Sega Dreamcast version and the PS2 version while the worst versions in my opinion are the Nintendo DS and the Game Boy Color Versions. the PS1 version is still good on its own even though entire levels were either trimmed down or completely cut out entirely. and yes, the PS1 version is quite shorter than the other versions, because you could exactly see that about 40% of the game was missing on the PlayStation 1 version due to Ubisoft Shanghai utilized full voice acting.

    • @SunshineSuperstar

      No its not. I always hated version different games.
      If it's not the same game then it shouldn't be sold as such. Like all those game boy ports absolutely sucked compared to the originals. They all should have been called something else.
      Raymond 2 is the game. Every console that can support the full game can sell it as rayman 2. On the game boy it should have been called Rayman and the pirates story. On ps1 something like Raymans 2nd story. And the fact that there's parts missing could have been justified by the story being told by one of those blue things to another. Or the daddy one to his kids or something.
      So missing chapters are just the guy forgetting bits as he retells it.
      You can't sell 10 different things called Rayman2. Then Rayman2 becomes meaningless.
      A game should be the game. The title is what it is. The title is the game. If you're selling some cheap knock off but it has the same name then the name is meaningless and so the game is meaningless too. It detracts from the legacy. I've always hated that.
      Nintendo had 64 I'm fucking every N64 game, they couldn't have called it Rayman GB?
      I remember playing croc 2 on Gameboy. It doesn't even have the same story missions and level layout. How in the fuck is it the same game?

    The ps1 had the best final boss in my opinion, it was more badass and direct and you saw that Razorbeard shooting at you and doing whatever it takes to kill you in the endless tunnel, he didn't care whatever could hit him or take him out he just wants Rayman dead, meanwhile in the other versions he just hangs on pipes like some dork while Rayman must gather power to beat Razorbeard which felt annoying and unsatisfying.

    It's because the PS1 lacks a Z-buffer which means textures have a much harder time warping around uneven surfaces since there is no data for that. On the N64 the system can calculate those textures and warp them as needed but the PS1 can't do that. So textures just pop in when needed far more abruptly.
    This technical limitation was something that could be designed around. But Rayman 2 was designed for N64 so of course isn't ideal on Playstation. Another major problem is that the PS1 has less than half the horsepower of the N64 when it comes to 3D rendering so many of the most demanding sections had to be removed.

    • @EuroMIX2
      @EuroMIX2 2 года назад +1

      Given how much better the PS1 sold, and obviously having the benefits of the CD as its game format, so more storage space and CD-quality audio, it's interesting to think that there were some things the N64 did a lot better. It's interesting that that extra storage space didn't help when porting Rayman 2, because the PS1 apparently couldn't run all of the game's areas to the same degree as even the N64.

  • @Arexion5293
    @Arexion5293 9 месяцев назад +2

    The weird thing is, I find Revolution to be the worst one. While it has some nice additions, the hub worlds take away some of the atmosphere the Hall of Doors added and it feels rather time wasting as a whole. There's far more enemy combat which drags on quite long, and the whole upgrade system makes using lums extra annoying for some time. The pacing as a whole suffers a lot, and locking health upgrades behind mini-games was a baffling decision. Why are the enemies using the PC AI and not the updated PS1 AI when they decided to add more combat scenarios?
    The PS1 version lacks parts of some levels, yet interestingly added its own level sections here and there that work surprisingly well. Rayman even seems to control somewhat faster in some regards and the final boss is an actual fight instead of a weird flying section. Putting all of the chase level sections into a one big whole honestly works way better than having the sudden break between those chase sections like in Revolution. That sudden pause is so jarring. So all in all I can't say the PS1 version is bad. It lacks a lot of stuff, but the changes it does are kinda good. Except the voice acting, it only works as a joke.

  • @iCABALi
    @iCABALi 2 года назад +21

    Honestly for me it's DC>3DS>PS2>PC>N64>PS1>DS.
    PS2 has the most content, but a lot of it is boring padding, and it isn't as stable, nor does it look as good as the Dreamcast version. The camera angle choices in some areas is a bit jarring too.
    The 3DS version is a port of the Dreamcast version with very minor issues.
    The PC version essentially is the N64 version but with better audio (getting the PC version whilst on holiday in '01 is actually how I first played it).
    The DS version is a buggy port of the N64 version with a D-Pad to control.
    The PS1 version is enjoyable for what it is.
    Also I did enjoy the GBC version, though it is a completely different game being a 2D platformer. Also felt a bit more lazy compared to the original Rayman on GBC - it didn't improve enough.
    There isn't really a bad way to play this game, other than the DS version.
    Half the versions feel unnecessary because of a lack of changes.
    The PS2 version is different enough.
    The Dreamcast is a better 3DS version.
    The PC is a better N64/DS version.
    The PS1 is a more compact experience that trims a lot off.
    The GBC is a completely different interpretation.

    I also realized something when watching someone else; there are still the Lum Restrictions to advance further in the game, but on PS1, the first door is right after the second level, and the first is just a tutorial where you're bound to have everything anyway, so if you did not picked up enough Lums in the Fairy Glade, then you're forced to redo that same level! They force you to redo something you've just finished!
    At least on the PC Version, that first Lum Restriction was at the Sanctuary of Water and Ice, so you had done the Bayou by then and you even have the bonus Walk of Life, so you'd have a bit more options to reexplore if you had prefered one over the other. This neither is game-breaking perse, it remains serviceable, but it's a Game Design choice that just baffles me, they didn't thought that through.

Normally I would agree that the version of a game with more content is better. But in the case of Rayman 2, almost everything that is included in the not PS1 versions are not fun to me. Most of them are long and drawn out or needlessly frustrating. The mini game at the end of a level for getting everything is not at all fun. The PS1 version keeps things mostly straight and to the point, with a couple of exceptions here and there.

I often find that the source material is worse and the stuff that was cut out feels sloppy. And with weekly manga, I have a hard time imagining perfection because the writing is so rushed. Anime often feels more polished and better when they decide to change the plot and movies often create a different mood from a book that makes it at least worthwhile to try both.

Sometimes it just ruins the mysticism in the show for me
      As for the books, some of the movies can sometimes feel rushed compared to the book version, like the lord of the rings books. I love the first movies and think its one of the greatest film adaption ever made of a book but the books feels more deeper, bigger and longer than the movies.

    I first played it on Dreamcast, then my friend got it on PS1. I remember telling him this is rubbish compared to the Dreamcast version when we played through it leading to a big argument. The PS1 version came out long after the DC version, so he was absolutely adamant it must have been the better version of the game. There is also this collectivist idea that happened where I'm from where everyone buys the same things as each other, and whatever most people own is the best thing and everything else is just a cheap copy. Yeah... People were classing the Dreamcast as a cheap copy of the Playstation 1... I just remember being like "fuuuuuuck! The graphics look horrible compared to my DC version!" And he was like "FUCK YOU! You are just remembering it wrong!"
    Then it got to that bit in the Fairy Glade where the pirate throws flaming barrels at you and that bit to the left that normally would lead to another area wasn't there and I was like OK I'm done with this crap.

    3ds version is perfectly fine. It’s a neat direct port of the Dreamcast game (save the bonus mini games)
    In terms of visual glitches: the worst you’ll see is some skyboxes rotating with the camera perspective which looks a little weird
    Worst in terms of gameplay glitches is that there is 1 inaccessible lum due to a material error in one of the levels.
    That is to say the intended method of collecting it doesn’t work. There’s a pretty easy way to get up high enough to grab it regardless and still get 100%
    a very serviceable version of the game
