I worked 14 years as a coal miner. And too many times i saw the top come down, the roof bolt heads popping off , and seeing my buddies getting carted out from being hurt. Thanks for the recognition.

I been mining coal for 15 yrs on June 23 of this yr and any man that says they've never got scared underground they just ain't done it long enough. I ran a bolt machine for around 8 yrs and been covered up 2 times by a small roof fall and by a rib roll that could have killed me but God was watching over me or I wouldn't be here. I continue to chose to take the risk that come with coal mining not to mention punishing my body and making an old man of myself just like every coal miner does. I don't do it out of greed or want to I do it for my little boy that is 4. Knowing he's happy and doesn't have to want for anything makes all of it well worth the risks and don't have to think twice about getting my seat on the man trip because I carry a picture of my reason for being there in my hat band and in my dinner bucket.

Huge respect comes from me for any coal miners throughout the world.
Ive traced my family roots, and theres 100+ years of family that were father to son coal miners.
How times have changed and history has almost forgot the sweat and blood these men gave to their work.
Huge admiration for them and proud to say, an ancestor of Yorkshire coal miners.

This an awesome poem and peformance! I live in the mountains of NC> I had a great uncle who died at the age of 16 in a coal mine in west virginia. My granny said he left home to work there, came back home once in a new car, the next time in a coffin. She was just a girl and it bothered her the rest of her live and she lived to be 86. Thanks for this touching tribute to all coal miners. - Ricky :-)

I like folksongs and I think RUclips is a great place to upload valuable sound files (although there are a lot of copyright issues).
I think this talking blues on Amazing Grace is a great piece of music to start with.
But this is a talking blues.
    The poetry is important.
So I want to know the poem properly.
But I'm Japanese, and I'm not very good at listening.
I am relying on a tool called DeepL for this comment.
As you can see, there are a few words that have been squashed in the subtitles.
Below is the automatically generated poem, but I don't understand the part in parentheses.
    If possible, kind-hearted people.
Can you please write the whole poem for me?
I apologize for my lack of knowledge.
    Please help me.
    -----------------------------------------
I was born and raised in the southern part of West Virginia in a small coal mining community.
Both of my granpa's were retired coal miner, my dad well he followed in her footstep.
But i read the other day, how twenty-nine men had lost there lives at the Upper Big Branch mine in Raleigh country.
I sat down and I wrote a poem. I'd like to dedicate to their memory.
Unto the families of those miner's. Coal it the Prayer of a coal miner.
Load of work eight hours a day, six days a week (38???) 5mile (DEEP???).
I work on the knees of swit steensma face.
I curse the day when I came in this place.
But it's in my blood now and it's all.
    But I know,What twenty years of (???).
I leave my home before Dawn's I Drive to the mind not knowing that the day Not being my last time.
I've said on the pin machine listening back down the break , when came the sound like Thunder, has the whole mountain would quake.
I've seen the pinhead shear off on the way to the top.
I bowed my head and prayed.
    Please Lord.
    you're gotta let it stop.
I've seen men covered up when that topped with paving.
I knew a few feet closer, this and boy would have been one of them.
Lord and so many time I've been at the end of this day.
    I'm gonna leave this hill.
    I'm going home to stay.
I'm gonna turn in my light to kill the boss made him through.
But he knows, I'm the miner what else can I do.
I got a wife in a home and my children to raise takes of $1.00 in the paycheck.
Load then my bills can be paid.My back hurts sometimes and it's hard to breathe.
But I can find us a to demand trip headed back under the hill.
Lord please watch over us and just keep us all safe.
Let us be one another's eyes, But We're a leather face.
Lord sent an angel to help us tell him.
    may be lend a hands.
And I asked it in your name.
God just blesses and go with us.
    Amen.
    Amen.
