I can tell I'm going to love this movie just because of the teacher.

And I'm pretty sure he's the guy from zombie land! And I love that movie

I cried watching this because I can relate to nadine. Being in this world and feeling like an alien in your own skin; i felt like I’ve watched my miserable self and my life flashed in front of me all throughout this movie and I realised I’m just like her minus the ending ofc. I’m not quite there yet.
You'll get there eventually just keep working on it :)
Even I cried bcz that's so fucki*ng relatable
Same, I'm a dude but I find myself own life highly relatable to hers. I don't know how to come to solace like she did in the film, maybe I should think less of myself, just be content and relax.
@@edenfreeman5171 I think same
The ending was fake dude. That's what messed it up for me. Things don't suddenly change in a day, whatever tho. Nadine was hella relatable.

Review:
The movie is really good , it has the right percentage of humour in it and the storyline is pretty good. The main character is a relatable person which made me want to watch it even more .The acting is a great 10/10 and so is the movie.
Could watch it all over again 100 times.
I would highly recommend watching it to all movie lovers out there!
Bassma Bou where did you watch it!
Kasey D it’s also on Netflix for anyone who has that
THIS MOVIE IS THE BEST! I really want to watch something like this again but I can't find it, can you give me some recommendations?

Anyone else noticed that when Nadine's depression began, she started wearing shoes without laces. And then, at the ending, when she started to pull herself together, she wore shoes with laces. This is a sign that she doesn't feel lazy about life anymore, she can tie her laces now. It's such a small detail, but it is extremely relatable.
Crap! I still wear slip on sneakers.
As a mental health professional, I truly believe that there is a meaning behind it, only not what you are saying. People who are depressed are not lazy! BUT.....They are worried/stressed that one day they will get so depressed/in their own head that they will harm themselves.
You need to watch out for run on sentences haha

That might be a problem when the character she's playing is supposed to be ugly...
im in love with her and my left hand
+Hilmi krzB1 my left hand too!
+David Jung her character was ugly, not anymore though. It says so in the trailer
Hailee Steinfeld seems famili-ar...
Just finished watching this INCREDIBLE movie. I can’t even put into words how much I felt it! I remember being 17 and relating to all the things Nadine went through, it was the WORST. I had only one friend for almost 13 years and then one day we just stopped talking and our friendship ended (cause of a stupid reason) then I ended up being alone. I was constantly feeling lonely. I really had no one to talk to. I started to isolate myself from literally everyone cause I just couldn’t find someone who really understands me. I felt like NOBODY liked me or wanted to even talk to me. I hated EVERY SINGLE THING about myself. My voice, the way I looked, my height I HATED THEM. I was scared that people would actually see me the way I saw myself, I was really terrified. I still can’t control some of them but I can say that I’m glad I’ve improved most of my insecurities.
same happened with me
This movie made me feel a crowd of emotions like one second I was cringing so hard I cried and the next I was like laughing and then I was crying again cause (not gonna spoil it) end of sentence. And then I was happy again love this movie a lot
Omg, I thought I was the only one watching this movie and cry so hard, I mean idk, I can feel her pain and thats made me crying until the end
I would be so mad if my best friend slept with my brother without even telling me she liked him. I wouldn't be friends with her anymore either.
madkatt333 I’m glad I’m not the only one! And I was really pissed when everyone expected HER to apologize like... wtf! That’s the only person she had after her dad died and everyone expects her to just gtf over it
madkatt333 same!! I just find it completely weird.. and just really not cool.
Me tooooo.😡
I can feel the pain after watch the movie, even I dont have brother
I am a lot of years late for an answer and yet I didnt even watched the movie. Anyway, I have a bigger brother and I love more than any other person in this world. If my best friend would sleep with him, I'd propably be happy for them, because they both are great persons. I would have wanted my brother or friend to tell me they are into each other and I would seriously talk to them about that, but I'd still be very happy for them. Just the way I'd feel. :)
Hailee Steinfeld is truly one of the most talented young actresses/performers that have emerged in the recent years. Her performances in True Grit and Ender's Game were incredible, and gave the world their first real exposure to how talented she is. For it takes someone truly talented to even outshine Jeff Bridges as "Rooster Cogburn".
Pray for them and they’ll come:)
And she sings too.
I've been obsessed with her since I saw this movie.
the trailer doesn't do the movie justice, its such an amazing movie funny and heartwarming at the same time
Honestly it's a good thing that it potrayed this as a typical movie. No dad in this trailer, and it makes it seem like the party is climax.
Just finished watching this movie. I loved this film so much. I thought it was going to be your typical teeanage film that tried too hard to be cool and hip, but it really wasn't. It was one of the most raw, emotional, and genuine movies I've seen this year. They portrayed depression so well, from having that lingering sadness inside you although you had the things which made you seem fine. I related to Nadine so much on so many things that it hurt. I cried so many times throughout this movie because it reflected a bit of my own life as well. I cannot begin to comprehend how thankful I am for this film, for how real, sad, and sweet it is. I know a lot of teenagers could benefit greatly from watching this. Watching Nadine become happy in the end and discovering more of herself did thrilling things to my heart. Although she is a fictional character, I hope all "Nadine's" in this world find their path of light. What a beautiful movie about friendship, family, love, and happiness.
I just saw the film tonight and I absolutely agree! This is one of the best films I've seen in a long long time. The only other film of the past few years I've seen which also impressed me this much was "Perfect Sense" starring Ewan Mcgregor. But with this Edge of Seventeen film, I'm so glad I randomly found it on Netflix, and because I love Woody Harrelson, I gave it a shot and was beyond impressed with this extremely heartfelt and relatable film (and I'm a 24 year old guy!). This is truly one of those films where I think there is something for everyone (Teenagers, Adults, Men, Women). It's not just a frivolous teen movie. I think viewers will find moments they can relate to from past experiences, or characters they connect with or that remind them of people they know. I'm not easily impressed by very many movies. But this movie is in my own opinion of top 10 or 15 films I've ever seen.
Except that it WAS the typical idiot teenage movie.
Pitch Perfect 3 looks different.
Johny Lilio and pitch perfect 3 came out lol
Johny Lilio XDDDDDDD HAHAHAHAHHAHA
It's been 5 years and I still can't get over this movie
“Don’t be awkward socialize” MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE😂😂😂😂
“My best friend’s brother is the one for me” (for people who watch Victorious)
BFB! 😭
This movie is amazing. Very underrated! Everyone did so great in it, including Ms. Hailee Steinfeld herslef! Woody Harrelson made for a very likeable teacher, the script and dialogue was intriguing, and the score really added a lot. But what makes this movie so great is how relatable it is. I really recommend the watch!
I was 25 when this movie came out, and I wish it came out when i was 17! I can totally relate to this movie, and i did experienced an identical situation when I was in my 16-17 phase year (sibling rivalry, friends betraying, and family problems, and also telling my teacher everything whats happening in my life). I was always in constant argument with both my parents.
I feel like this movie will definitely have some good moments worth some form of a watch but like all teen movies fall flat by the end. So basically I'm saying it looks ok...
It looks like it'll have a good message though
Here's hoping.

Not quite tumblr level.
At least there's Woody? I'll watch it for Woody!
She is so beautiful
First
shes ugly tho
only ugly thing here is you.
She’s a actor and singer!!!
What can she not do???💙
Why, in every movie about an average teenager who is struggling with life, does the actress have to be Hollywood style beautiful
thats why is called a Teen movie...
There's no such thing as Holylywood beautiful, if you ask me.
George Daugherty I just mean really beautiful women
Hollywood style beautiful kids can't have tough lives? That's really insensitive Olive Night
because that's just how the film industry works. If it didn't have some hot famous girl in it, they think if they don't put in some big hotshot actress/actor then they won't get enough money to make a decent amount of money. and maybe one day it will be different but unfortunately, that's the way it works.
This movie is so much more than the trailer makes it seem, like the movie is so amazing.
When I saw the trailers for this film, I thought I was going to hate it. But I ended up loving it.
It kind of annoys me because they always chose actors/actresses who are so attractive to play outcasts who are like "oh we arent pretty we're too ugly to be popular" its just so annoying!
***** YES OMG
Gabriella Allen the girl isn't supposed to be "ugly" the point of the movie is that she's socially awkward and can't really talk to other people
You people ought to see "Not Another Teen Movie". It will make your frustrations go away with laughter.
Gabriella Allen I would say I'm not unattractive but I'm unpopular because I'm socially inept, have anxiety and just so so awkward
Gabriella Allen Mainly because no one is ugly:)
I'll watch everything Hailee Steinfeld does
***** funny how that's not the first time someone said that to me
It's ok I do the same thing😂😂😂😂
same
Truly one of the greatest movies of 2010's
I very much recommend this movie, and don't let the trailer fool you, this isn't your average American high school comedy, it's pretty emotional and depressing and for once a very realistic representation of real life!
I love this movie so much, I've watched this twice and never get bored, Nadine sometimes represented me as insecure girl's who need to growing up to be mature, but look I hate her bestfriend so much , I don't even know why -_-
i love this movie so much!! why did I just watch it now?? but it felt like it came to me at the right time. i cried my eyes out and it feels soo satisfying. thank youuu
Awkward, quirky, yet attractive teenage hipster. Tbis movies been done a thousand times already.
*this
Every movie, every play, every song has been done a thousand times already.
+neil adlington yeah nothing is exactly originally anymore.
No. Just no. Not every idea has been done before in every way possible.
I kinda agree, but I think he's trying to say that this exact idea has been realised in other movies in the exact same way already.
Idk why Iam crying in the middle part until the end of this movie, its so hearbreaking, Im feeling like this movie pretty close like my life but yeah this is movie with happy ending, Im just waiting when the happiest part come to me, but this is really good to watch, Iam happy she find her confidence and someone who love her
everyone is hating on this movie but im such a cliche person and i love it :') anyone else?
I loved it too.
No one hates this movie lol
I think the characters only they hated here just like her bestfriend and brother
I watched this movie and it is amazing. I was really able to connect to it, I cried throughout the entire thing and at the end. (Happy tears at the end.)
Was this movie based on my life?😂
Not a single teen movie relates to my teen years as much as this one
The "You need to watch out for run-on sentences" got me 😂😂
I loved watching this movie. I thought it would be another cliché comedy/drama movie, but I was pleasantly surprised that this move is actually very heartwarming. It's relatable and it will make you cry, but at the same time I couldn't help but laugh at the witty and quirky characters!
krista pisses me off. she gaslighted her bestfriend the whole time, when she’s the person in the wrong for f-ing her bsfs brother and says she’s sorry and then continues f-ing the brother and ditches her friend to hang out with the weird “popular” people.
if this was real life she would definitely be one of the cool girls lmao
In real life she is one of the cool girls
A great movie! Im just so happy they made it. I though it wouldn't be that good. I felt her in so many ways and enjoyed how complicated she is. Finaly a smart teenager on a movie 😍
one of my favorite movies of all time!! I remember when this trailer first came out I got so excited… im a sucker for these type of movies
Best movie ever,, cried like crazy 😭😭
Rewatched it today i wish they had more scenes of nadine and erwin they were so cute and i still hate her bestfriend
Growing up is realizing that her best friend and mother were the worst possible people in her life.
Thankyou. And the fact that her brother was one of the worst "type" of people you can encounter.
Her voice is hypnotic
This movie is so relatable. I think that's why it's going to be a really good movie
Everyone's sarcastically like "wow a middle class privileged white girl and the world is so unfair!" it's like well dude everyone's born with a different hand of cards. If you applied that concept to every movie, everyone would generally be ungrateful
she's cute
She bears a bit of resemblance to Ellen Page. Check her out on the 'Barely Lethal' trailer.
everything cute looks like ellen page from Ellie tlou, now this girl. I mean what's up with that man? :/
She bears a bit of a resemblance to Ellen Page in that they're both humans and female.
+k31than so true😣
plz no she's not a lesbian... i think
This gets me.. I understand this girl! Even now being a 42 year old guy, it hits home.. It's fun yes but also what I know from growing up..
Hailee is such a good actress omg

I would never watch this film, but I love the companionship that the teacher has with the student lol. I especially love the first part of the trailer with the suicide note XD
Look, I know this movie is probably going to be funny, but if I have to see one more "I'm brunette and have bad skin extroverts and blonde girls suck feel sorry for me" movie I'm going to burn down every Hollywood studio

I started loving live after 22 :)
Glad to hear that stella ☺️
This movie actually looks really good; I'm looking forward to it!
Kinda my life summed up in a movie! (cries in the corner)
To me, this was more than just a movie, it was an exhibition of the psychology of several characters, and at the same time, help the audience understand Nadine.
At the beginning of the movie, Nadine seems like a typical and normal teenager. We see this mostly when she was with Krista, because Krista is more of a norm in the sense that she’ll fit in with a bigger crowd. When she’s not around Krista, Nadine is socially awkward and inept and it’s a very big problem. Also, even though Krista was basically the only person who fully understood Nadine, she wasn’t meant to be a very interesting character. We’re meant to see Krista through Nadine’s eyes *after* she finds her with Darian. She sees Krista as just another person she talks down about because she associates with her brother, whom she despises.
Darian sees Nadine’s act as a joke and he intentionally tries to provoke her into arguing with him so he can humiliate her for behaving like a 5 year old. However, he sees that it’s an actual problem when she reminds him of when their dad passed away. After that, he doesn’t want to provoke her anymore because he knows it’s not a joke to her and he just wants to feel like the bigger person… and let’s be real, he’s a mama’s boy. But overall, he’s not *as* bad as Nadine makes him out to be, but until the end of the movie, he really doesn’t care about her, other than the fact that bringing her home will win him big cool points with their mom. At the end of the movie, we see how he changes as well when he sees that he’s the first person Nadine opened herself up to about how she sees herself and how embarrassed she is. He understands her as well as Krista does, he’s just seen more of her bad side and thought it was fun to harmlessly provoke her.
Mr. Bruner and his wife basically try to teach Nadine to roll with things instead of pontificating everything and stressing out about how much it annoys her. That’s why he talks to Nadine the way he does and doesn’t actually scold her even though she annoys him with childish insults. He actually understands her, but he’s not gonna entertain her melodrama because 1. he’s too old to deal with it and 2. he’s trying to show her that he just rolls with things until they go away, and he’s not gonna snap even he’s annoyed. In the end, you can bet that he actually understands her, because in 2 decades of teaching you knows he’s heard the same song at least 20 times.
Irwin is a genuinely nice guy. At first he comes off as socially awkward because we’re seeing him through Nadine’s eyes (as someone she clicks with) but in reality, he just doesn’t understand her. She sees him as someone who’s as socially awkward as she is and feels like she can be open with him… which she can because he’s a very open minded person. By the end of the movie we see how he has a big social circle and he knows that Nadine would fit in. In retrospect, we can assume that he would take time out of his day to hang out with Nadine because he’s the kind of friend who’ll be there for another friend in need. And let’s be honest, he was busy a few times.
Nick is less of a character and more of a plot device to show us just how embarrassed Nadine is of herself. The scene where he and Nadine are in his car was particularly hard to watch. Not only because the sexual tension felt real, but because this is where Nadine’s awkward side takes control and freaks out. We see how embarrassed she is as she tries to cool things down with Nick and it escalates into her social insecurity taking over and yelling at him. She’s aware of how socially awkward she is.
Its the "run on sentences" for me. 😁😆😂
