    Citroen have often thought outside the box. From the first 2CV, designed for pure basic practicality.
    The only places making useful compact EV cars at the moment is China.
    The Me & Mon Ami channel has been videoing the regular Ami for about a year, driving along some of the routes in France, for, I'd say even an original 2CV would find challenging.

    We sang Citroën its praises when the Ami came out 2 years ago or more now.
    We love how the small Ami concepts and others like the Fiat Topolino can put out in the tangible world.
    BUT - the bones and mechanics has to improve. Substance is left wanting. The Ami or FIAT Topolino won our hearts sure but they are no cheaper than the now ancient Renault Twizy that comes with an airbag and 80kmh 55mph top speed at 72 volts. The Twizy desperately needs an upgrade too after a +decade
    The suspension is awful. Citroën should get over itself and return the old 2CV style suspension.

    Very quirky in a French way and I love the direction this is taking the EVs (rather than silly levels of luxury). I love the utilitarian look and steel wheels but how ’off-toad’ is it? Are we talking slightly bumpy tracks? Is it 4 wheel drive? Also, will plastic zip doors really work? If you street park in the UK your security is a Velcro sunroof and a zip door…. I live in a rural setting and these would be ideal in the narrow lanes but it’s very hilly and a supermarket run would take me on roads where other vehicles can do 60mph…. You gotta love it though!

    Small Chinese ev’s are much more practical, safer, faster, have greater range, more comfort, they’re actually cheaper than the Ami in China. Yes we need them to be approved for road use in Europe. The Ami is a very niche vehicle, suitable for very few people, whereas a 4 seater small car with 60mph top speed and 100+ miles range would suit a much greater range of people, especially at the same price point as the Ami.

    • @toyotaprius79
      @toyotaprius79 Год назад

      This is true. And tragic too.
      They invested in that size of EVs regardless if there was a market or not. They created the market.
      The Ami is welcomed but the price makes it too vulnerable to Chinese EVs. The Renault Twizy is much more capable and better value for money than the open doored Ami.
      And that Twizy is desperately needing an upgrade and coat reduction.
      We should be expecting more but the European Auto industry has inflated itself terribly, another disadvantage against Chinese EVs

    5:00 9:33 when you insist "this is not a car, it is a quadricycle". I want to ask, what is your definition of "a car"?
    The Ami is an L6e "light quadricycle", more specifically L6e-BP "light quadri-mobile"
    The M1 class vehicles are "passenger vehicles with no more than eight seats (in addition to the driver's)".
    I've yet to find a definition of "car" in the European vehicle classification.
    However in every dictionary I look, their definition supports that the Citroën Ami is a car.
    Definitions from Oxford Languages
    car
    /kɑː/
    noun
    a four-wheeled road vehicle that is powered by an engine and is able to carry a small number of people.
    "she drove up in a car"
    You could argue that the Ami doesn't have an "engine" but an electric motor, but that would apply to any EVs, and by that logic any EVs wouldn't be a car.

    On the car ... or rather the quadricycle ... I didn't like it then, I still don't see the point today (25mph ...) if it were able to reach 50 at least, it would be more useful ... but then you'd need doors, safety belts, probably a helmet, it would join all those good transportation ideas that were killed by regulations (Imagine an electric BMW C1, and I want to see how long Microlino and Aptera will last -- I was actually hoping that the Aptera would be available as a "RHD/LHD workshop conversion" but I digress)
    On the channel, YOU HAVE BEEN HIDDEN FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS!!! I follow a lot of channels on EVs, I'm in the UK, yet the YT Algorithm has hidden your channel from my views until today! Arguably safer than motorcycle

    • @flitsies
      @flitsies Год назад

      @@hi9580 It depends on your perspective doesn't it, If you can't ride a motorcycle then anything is safer for the user, but likewise if you can't drive anything is safer.
      Also if you happen to be in the path of this when it turns over, it will not be safer for you, as you could get crushed.
      Plus as this has no side doors you would probably end up being thrown against the sides which would naturally mean you would put your arms out to save yourself from hitting your head on the tarmac and as such probably end up crushing your arm and potentially banging your head on the tarmac so I wouldn't be so quick to say these are safer.
      To be honest with you I think these are more dangerous to not only yourself but to other people because if this rolls over you could end up rolling into someone else.
      How this is allowed on the road when it tips over so easily is a mystery other than the fact that it's made by a French car maker and the French are one of the leading controlling countries in the EU, judging by all the videos these things are way more dangerous to bystanders and now this has no doors potentially more dangerous to the driver of it as well.
      So no not safer than a motorcycle, way more dangerous.

    Surely EVs are going to be finished pretty soon? The cost of the Luton blaze to insurers, is going to work out at £100s of millions, and I think ICE drivers, are starting to get VERY pissed off, about their insurance being loaded to cover the EV claims?
    If EV policies were loaded in accord with EV claims then not many could afford £10k premiums for a very basic EV....................
