They are backordered because a lot of inventory from camera stores is not being sold to the public direct, they are being scalped directly from the stores to the likes of Ebay. Ask yourself how scalpers are getting multiple units where joe bloggs is sat there waiting 6-12 months for a single camera.
Yes the retail allocation is also a big issue. Camera sales has been flat for a decade, and finally a camera comes out that the mainstream wants. I’m not defending them, but I understand it.
Fuji have lost the plot, firmware upgrades that make cameras worse, poor build quality, not enough stock. Fuji have the XM5 so they won’t do a cheaper one. Fuji gave up listening to customers a while back.
@ I must admit I’ve been watching them the past couple of years and it does seem like they’re scrambling. Maybe too many cameras too quickly without sitting back and figuring out what’s happening with current models, I don’t know. I think maybe the X-H2S trying to go head to head with other videocentric mirrorless cameras was a bit too much of a resource drain on their team. Focus on what Fujifilm is good at. Compact cameras with compact lenses. Let’s see what happens in 2025. X-Pro4 and GFX100R.
Great review and rant. Definitely some good feedback in there for FUJI to consider. I think having a pro version of the x100 series could be an interesting departure for the camera. That said, I think it would bring it too close to the XPro series - but a worthy consideration. At a bare minimum they should consider a fully weather sealed body and titanium top and bottom plates. Moving the IO to the left side and away from the grip makes sense and I agree with the memory card slot moving away from the battery compartment to make more room for a bigger battery. For body, I'm in agreement with you that a more rounded camera with less sharp edges makes sense - for a pro user this well help with not feeling the dents and scratches when working with it - because it's going to be banged around.
I bought the X-M5, I love it despite of some things (and I like it over X100, too limiting for me). Well, I write because the X-M5 reminds me to you, to a conversation we had 1 year ago where you talked about a cheap pocketable, or kind of, camera that would sell as hot cake. Here it is :)
And don't forget, with XC15-45PZ lens you get into 90s to 00s digital point and shooter era when every camera had 10x digital zoom that works through electrifiyed slider button. Zoom zoom. 😂
Yes looks good. I think this is Fuji's new try at an X70 type size albeit with interchangeable lens and maybe is the "low end" version of the X100VI that you talked about @bigheadtaco
A Nikon response to the X100VI that was reminiscent of the Nikon SP rangefinder sounds like a dream come true (maybe the built-in lens could be the 24/1.7 DX.) Especially if they do not hold back on the specs and build quality and make it $1500 - that will sell like hotcakes!
Of all the Japanese camera manufacturers, I have faith that Nikon can create an amazing APS-C compact point and shoot because they've already done it years ago with the Coolpix A. Let's do it Nikon!!
I feel they simplifed the construction a bit. But, I hear a lot of quality issues that have a appear with some of the VI's such as certain parts not being flush. My copy of the camera been back order since April from B&H... Black model.
sorry you have to wait so long. B&H is a great retailer, but they also have lots of customers too. I don't see them selling out the back door to resellers.
I agree with much of what you say in this video. I'm not too interested in a cheaper x100 camera but if it means they put all their ideas like film sim dial, drop down screen, crop dial on it, made in China and leave an ultra-high grade version then I am all for it. What I would really like is an x100v with a close focusing 16 f2 and a 50 f2. I don't care about them being slightly bigger, since it's not very pocketable anyway. This way they could sell some new tele-and wide-converters to go along with them. a Linear motor or better focusing would be great, but I get along ok without it. I very much disagree about the flip down screen on the x-pro3, however. I desperately wanted to buy into the Fuji ecosystem around the time the x100v and x-pro 3 came out. The poor design choice made me go with the x100v, and ive enjoyed the versatility of the close focusing, leaf shutter and built in ND. I can't afford to have many cameras, so I can't get one that purposely makes taking pictures and operating the camera more inconvenient for the sake of differentiating it from the x-t series or other cameras. My hope for the x-pro 3 is: Made in Japan, that global electronic shutter sensor, IBIS, even better build quality, and no gimicky design choices. Thanks for the great content.
My "biggest" issue on the X100's is not having the same focus selector as every other fuji, because I've gained such a muscular memory of it being there from almost 10 years of fujis.
Have an X100F and love it, unfortunately it is at Fujifilm with the standard stuck EVF/OVF curtain problem. Has Fujifilm fixed the EVF/OVF curtain problem with the X100VI or are they just ignoring it still and selling cameras with a known long term fault?
I placed my preorder first week of April, so kind of late to the party. I got a notification last week (first week of December) that it had shipped, so 8 months backorder. And I had actually just received the X-M5 two weeks ago 😅. Now to decide which one to keep cuz i definitely don't need both.
both are great, but I do like the flexibility of ILC of the X-M5. If you shoot video, the X-M5 is awesome. If you're mostly stills and like using a viewfinder, then the X100VI. Luckily you can play with both and see which to keep 🙂
In the X100F SE Brown club here. My favorite prized camera. Had the V twice… sold them… tried the VI but returned it. Not a fan of the 40mp sensor and how it processes files. Looks a bit like an iPhone to me. No character. My set up is X-T1, X100F and recently added the X-T30 ii. Lenses are 18-55, 23 f2, 35 f1.4r and 60mm f2.4. As far as the X100 series… Fujifilm is really missing the mark by not putting out a monochrom version… X-Pro monochrom, also, IMHO.😊 Happy Shooting 📸
I bought two X100VIs, one for me one for my gf and only had to wait 3 months - not the end of the world. I’ve been an x100 shooter since 2020 before the hype and I love it as my everyday camera.
I had the X100F in brown and sold it in 2022. Always got comments from people: "Hey, is that a film camera?" But I moved to the Xpro2 to accommodate some of my Nikkor glass. I'd love to have a dark brown xpro2!
People seem to forget when explaining the most significant updates to the 6 is the upgraded lens, now sharper at the edges at f2, plus the image stabilisation, and larger megapixel. The completely new lens seem to be completely overlooked, what is a camera where the lens is of no account? It’s utterly fundamental!
the Fujifilm X100V and X100VI have the same lens. It was upgraded in the X100V from the previous lens that was the same in the X100, X100S, X100T, and X100F.
I ordered the X100VI on launch day and ended up giving my order to a friend four months in, around June, and went with a different point-and-shoot. It arrived 6 months later from order date, at the end of August, for my friend. This was one of the most botched launches I've ever seen. That would've been my first Fuji camera too. I'd be very hesitant about getting into any of their new products in the future because of this.
Love my V and may not ever upgrade. I predict it will still hold it's value years to come. At some point, the two won't be too far in price with so many VI's available.
I think only the last version the X-E4 was considered a baby X100. Previous versions of the X-E were baby X-Pro cameras. The best X-E was the X-E3. I hope they will make the X-E5, although the name should be X-E50 as it should be a double digit prosumer camera with no WR, smaller EVF and smaller battery. I hope it comes out.
I agree with you, I am waiting for X Pro 4 (please!) Thank you.......“The whole point of taking pictures is so that you don’t have to explain things with words.” - Elliott Erwitt" 😎
Scalping. End of story. Artificial popularity. I have the X100F and still use it when I feel like shooting. I'd upgrade if the camera was available at even a Leica Q3 level (in-stock online at Leica website every 45 days or so), but it's NEVER in stock anywhere besides a huge markup on Ebay. For this reason I'll never buy an X100 again I don't think.
yes there's definitely lots of speculators trying to flip, but i also see lots of them around as well. Because it doesn't really have any competition, and Fujifilm only makes a single version of it (other than colour and the ltd edition model) there's no selection or stock. Hopefully this will change in the near future.
10 months back ordered here in the Philippines. Fujifilm dropped the ball here. If they had stocks they would have sold a lot but because it's hard to get one, I for one am thinking to cancel my pre order and just go to another camera system.
I agree with all of your design “nitpicks,” none of which would have affected sales during the X100 launch period fever. I have the VI, but am really yearning for an Ex-Pro4. I understand but dislike the fact that Fujifilm moved so much of their production to China, and certainly hope the Ex-Pro line remains in Japan. To me, the Ex-Pro models have always felt better in-hand than the purportedly pro XT bodies, and of course much more substantial than the X100 series. Also, the Ex-Pro variants with special materials and finishes made them well worth the asking price. On another note, the Internet-boosted craze beginning with the X100V and exploding with the launch of the X100VI probably robbed future purchases of a version VI successor (similar to the pandemic period’s buying craze of bikes, cars and light trucks, and motorcycles, which have led to huge problems for manufacturers and dealers as sales have collapsed).
id love to have this camera but id rather opt for the x100f as it has the 4 ways buttons in the back which is important to me. I have I have a x pro 3 and miss those buttons bad. F alone already fire as is, but I love the S too
I totally agree with everything you said here in this video. Fujifilm developed this 40 megapixel sensor and decided to stick it into every possible camera they've made since. For me this is a bit of a overkill, as I'm not a professional photographer and I don't need all that resolution for my day to day photos. Not to mention the issue with the autofocus not being on par with anything on the competition. I reckon they could have fit the sensor from the xh2s with the 26mp and avoid having to work with such large files. Or at least as you mentioned, keep an x100v with that sensor and add the ibis to it.
Sorry but of all cameras, a high MP count makes the most sense on a fixed lens camera, where you cannot change lens or optically zoom. It adds a lot of versatility with digital zoom (cropping).
@ agree to disagree. Cropping wouldn’t give you the same result of an actual change of view like when changing lenses. Yes, cropping is good and all, but 26mp is more than plenty to do that. That’s just my experience, I’m taking the X100VI and an XT5 to a trip to Prague today, and I’m not very much looking forward to having to transfer photos from the camera to my laptop once I’m back, takes too much time and space. Even Sony with the a6700 have kept the 26mp sensor on it.
@ 🤷♂️it doesn’t give the same quality as changing a lens but it is the next best thing when you can’t change the lens. I compared the V and the VI and there is a noticeable difference in crop ability. Considering there is a built in digital teleconverter it makes sense
I like Fujifilm, I own the X100V (my first X100 series camera). Somehow I still miss my X20 which I sold away for pennies on the dime so long ago. I would love to see a spiritual successor to the X30 to bring it up to speed the current generation and with a 1 inch sensor. Keep the manual zoom ring and have an articulating screen at least like the XT5. I wouldn’t mind see a spiritual successor to the X70. A EVF only X100 series type camera would be interesting. It would be fascinating to see a spiritual successor to the XS1 with a 1 inch sensor and manual zoom ring with a 24-200mm f2.8 like that of the RX10II. The return of the Fuji high end compact line up. XS2, X40, X70S, X100VI. That will be one heck of a line-up.
I have the D-Lux8, it's a very different camera. The D-Lux8 is a gateway camera into Leica's ecosystem, while the X100VI is Fujifilm's flagship point-and-shoot, if we can even call it that. If you want IQ and power, you go X100VI every time. The D-Lux8 is a true point and shoot straight out of the 2010s. It does what it does well, but it won't compete with the X100VI, except for its optical zoom capabilities.
For point and shooters fans Nikon should bring back Nikon L35AF. As digital version. With fixed 35mm or equivalent lens. IBIS and 26MP image. Nikon Z50II or older Zfc are almost there but not really pocketable. For Canon.. Canon AF35M II, maybe?
Nikon is in a better position to make a compact point and shoot. But yes, I would love to see what Canon can do. They need to move away from the 1" sensor.
If Fujifilm believed the market would be there long term, it would consider cranking out X100 series cameras as quickly as it does Instax cameras. In the long term, the insane demand for these expensive to manufacturer cameras is not reliably sustainable. It would be nice if the point and shoot cameras returned that pass themselves off as less expensive X100 cameras --- like given them shutter/aperture knobs and that retro range finder look --- there would be a market if you could crank them out for under $500?
The X100V1 is the cheapest X100 camera, inflation-wise. The X100 launched in September 2010 at $1,199, which is $1731 in today's dollars. The X100S cost $1780 in today's dollars. The X100T cost $1722 in today's dollars. The X100F cost $1688 in today's dollars. The X100V cost $1706 in today's dollars. The X100VI is, of course, $1599.
The most disappointing thing about this camera is its lack of availability and the secondary market ( scalpers ) that have sprung up. Two local retailers have pre -order where you pay in full and wait… I’d like one of the cameras but there’s no way I’ll pre pay or pay a premium. I’d rather pony up the extra cash for a leica q or even a Sony rx1r ii. I’ll never consider a Fuji again because of this shifty business practice.
Leica now created a second version of the Q, and Ricoh has 4 versions of the GR. It makes sense to make more than one version of the X100. Also, bring back the X70 yes. 100%. We want it all :-)
Honestly I think Fuji dropped the ball with the x100vi. I was really hyped for it, but they hiked the price up and combined with the weak af, it being apsc and the slow delivery (still cant get one here in germany)...nah, I just lost interest.
I have a X100 F and a X100 V that I got when it first came out. I see no reason to buy any more versions of this camera.
Agreed. Both great cameras.
@ I have a Sony A7RV for that.
X100vi brings some quality of life changes:
1) selectable toggle between EVF and lcd, including disabling of the IR auto switching
2)5ghz wifi for faster transfers.
3)tiff & HEIC output
4)ios app camera info
5) 40 mp help with cropping as does IBS
6) surprisingly fast performance despite increased processing.
7) 500 iso minimum for dr400 instead of 640iso
Why limit the iso when on Dr400?
I owned the X100F, T and V. The VI is truly a great camera. A worthy upgrade.
100% it’s a great camera!

@ you’ve hit the nail on on the head, what is Fujis strategy, its hard to work out.
What kind of hood that you put on it? Can you kindly let me know. Thanks.
Yup, I mention it right at the beginning, it's the hood from the Fujifilm X70 called the LH-X70. I'm sure you can find them on Ebay still.
Have an X100F and love it, unfortunately it is at Fujifilm with the standard stuck EVF/OVF curtain problem. Has Fujifilm fixed the EVF/OVF curtain problem with the X100VI or are they just ignoring it still and selling cameras with a known long term fault?

Congrats. Ya, they need to make more cameras.
I always considered the X-E series to be the EVF X100.

I miss that splash of red!!!
Me too. It’s a small thing but it’s all about the small details.
Can we get a video comparing the x100 vi to the d lux 8. I know they are different but we would live a proper comparison plz
Ew no gross
D-Lux 8 is really just a re-badge of a Panasonic DC-LX100 II.
I have no experience about X100-series but they do appear to be just iterations of each others. Seems to work though.
Never upgraded. I bought the X100T and X-T2 new. They are both Made In Japan. Later models are not. That speaks volumes about Quality.
China has the most advanced manufacturing in the world

@@LIGHTHUNTER.D Yes, Chy-Naaaa has much better quality standards than Japan. Ha ha ha ha ha ha

@@barrycohen311they have 5G automated factories and are an industrial superpower. Japan is not lmao
FUJI should ADD > JPEG XL Compression for RAW (and why not jpgs), 40Mpix XTRANS Files use to much space/requiere to mucho processing power.
They just need to make an X80.
X80 Gang!!
@bigheadtaco you, me, and Reggie B.
You probably heard that they are coming with MF point and shoot , with size of ghe xpro-3. Making x100 size of xpro would be plain stupid.
From business point of view, it doesn't make sense to make a different iteration of the X100VI. Just give us the long overdue X70 successor
Leica now created a second version of the Q, and Ricoh has 4 versions of the GR. It makes sense to make more than one version of the X100. Also, bring back the X70 yes. 100%. We want it all :-)
If they make a 35mm, i will drop everything i have and use only that.
Honestly I think Fuji dropped the ball with the x100vi. I was really hyped for it, but they hiked the price up and combined with the weak af, it being apsc and the slow delivery (still cant get one here in germany)...nah, I just lost interest.
Me too, till i realised is a compact camera
I would prefer a Nikon Zf and the 40mm for that price.
I would not buy a compact camera even if i would use a single lens all the time. Does that lens even resolve all that 40Mpx?
it resolves it okay wide open. I feel it looks best stopped down to f/4.
I just want better build quality. Better materials. I’d pay a bit more if needed.
Pay half for the OM System OM-5.
😅 cripple hammer ..
Oh Canon.......
Dude, it's not pronounced "V", it's the roman numeral "5", so say 5, not V
Dawg it’s almost Christmas u too old for ts 😭😭
They can barely keep up with a single version. Dont give them bad ideas 😂
Dude wants to design his own camera. He complains about every details
I don’t buy cameras made in china.
